Death Cab For Cutie & St. Vincent @ Radio City Music Hall - pics & setlist

Photos by Eric M. Townsend

Death Cab for Cutie

Death Cab for Cutie played Radio City Music Hall in NYC on Monday night (10/6) - their second, large, headlining show in NYC in less than four months, though this one didn't have to end early because of the weather.

"What a dump this place is," quipped Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, perched atop the magnificent stage at New York's Radio City Music Hall last night. Then, unsure if people caught his sarcasm, he added, "No, really, this is an honor."

That anxious, awkward moment capped the first third of Death Cab's show, as both band and audience took their time acclimating to the legendary room. After the first five songs -- an admittedly slow build-up that included "The Employment Pages" and "We Laugh Indoors," two of the band's older tunes -- most of the 6,000 patrons at the sold-out gig remained seated, but not in a docile, complacent way: They were totally engaged, singing and bobbing atop Radio City's plush cushions. St. Vincent opened and it was Annie Clark's second NYC show less than two weeks. More pictures and the setlist from the show below...

That's a great set list.

I was in the third row of the 1st Mezz. My friend and I tried standing up during "Crooked Teeth" because every single person in the Mezz was sitting down. Within 10 seconds, the girl behind us asked if we would sit down because she couldn't see the show.

It's a fucking concert! The only time people stood was during the encore.

On the plus side, there were some might fine 15-year old girls next to us. Unfortunately their parents were in-between us and I couldn't properly roofie their sodas and M&Ms.

That sucks. About not being able to stand up AND not being to roofie random 15 year olds.

Saw them over the summer at a seated venue. Everyone was on their feet.

i don't understand, was my experience different? i was in the orchestra section and everyone was definitely on their feet for the last half of the show. it's actually the first time i've seen a show at radio city where the entire floor was standing before the encore--and i've seen bjork there twice.

that's a really great setlist. photobooth would have sent it over the top.

Damn.. Annie is so hot. Sorry. I couldn't hold it in.

The show was real solid. The Mezz was just super lame with everyone sitting down.

I didn't know John Fogerty was the lead singer of Death Cab.

st vincent is like the greatest girl ever.

I'd leave after St. Vincent.

Pretty sucky crowd. No one knew who St. Vincent was. I saw lots of old balding grandparents escorting their grandkids to the show.

But whatevs, St. Vincent was great, Annie Clark is gorgeous and rocked her guitar.

I did almost think about leaving after her set but Death Cab put on a solid, if unremarkable, show as they always do.

They covered up the glory hole in the downstairs basement bathroom! Now where am I going to go for anonymous sex? There were so many 15-year old begging for it. Don't go to Radio City until the situation is rectified.

lead singer looks like Neil Young in photo

How does Gibbard look manorexic? I mean, I know that North Americans in general are going downhill in terms of health, but this passes for thin?

C'mon, he's an average-sized dude. Props to him for toning up.

uhm, all you bashing on death cab should really shut up. they're awesome and always will be and what the fuck with the manorexic comment?
