Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 11:54 AM
They're a novelty band who are enjoying their 5 minutes in the spotlight. Good luck to them.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 11:57 AM
Novelty band?
You are one clueless fucking dude.

Oh my god what a shitty ensemble of fucking crap music, bad comedians and loser cunts of all varieties.
NYC is officially useless. I hope a tsunami wipes it out ASAP.

a Dwarves tribute band doesn't really cut it, sorry.
watching people try to build them up into something beyond that is a little sad... sorry but "novelty band" gets it right.

I can't wait to rock out with these dudes. I think we will be laying down a few acoustic numbers.

Novelty band? Besides the singer bashing his head on a somewhat ritual basis (but less so now) and their name, there's no novelty involved. And they're years removed from sounding like the Dwarves. Not digging the band? Fine. But off the mark criticisms.

new album fucking rules.

Novelty band because this is (barely) hardcore for hipsters and nothing more. Their music is fucking boring and their behavior isn't interesting enough to merit any coverage.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 1:57 PM
I hope Phish are one of the surprise guests!!! sweeeeeeet!

Was that really matt sweeney posting a comment?
Posted by Matt Sweeney | October 3, 2008 2:22 PM
live they're still amazing, but their last great stuff was 'epics in minutes'. sad but true
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 3:09 PM
It's a novetly not to be a boring repetative hardcore band? It's a novelty destroying cliche assumptions of what certain genres should sound like? What a boring, unorignial life you must live avoiding all these "novelty" bands.
Go suck Cold War Kids dick and leave the good music for the rest of us.

yeah seriously, if you don't enjoy the band don't bother reading their posts. Hell, there are tons of bands that get plenty of posts on this site that i personally don't like, but i don't leave hateful comments on all their posts. it makes me think, the people who leave hateful comments on bands posts obviously spend too much time on this site, otherwise doing the above would just be a waste of their own time. pull your heads out of your ass.
on the flip side, agreed, new album is great! can't wait to see this band at market hotel. wow.

N is for Nothing but Novelty.
luckily they have the people of Great Britain on their side.
and if your shtick is "ooo we're evil / orgies of destruction / the beating heart of the underground" you can't really get offended when people laugh at you.

Is the name of this band an allusion to the 1981 article in the Village Voice called “Is Black Flag Totally Fucked Up?”

I somewhat like this band and I think their ideas and Mike being one clever individual BUT the songs don't move me. I really want the best for them. It's just the songs don't KILL me.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 4:48 PM
Who cares what they sound like? FREE BOOZE!
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 5:19 PM
Novelty bands are always around for 7 years releasing 50+ records, and consistently packing shows that are rad. Yep. Sure. I'd say there are few bands around that could be any LESS of a novelty act than F.U

none of you listen to hardcore
Posted by colm | October 3, 2008 5:50 PM
hardcore is dead

"...and if your shtick is "ooo we're evil / orgies of destruction / the beating heart of the underground" you can't really get offended when people laugh at you..."
You either haven't been paying attention too closely or are just not too bright if you think that's how they portray themselves though the band would think it's hilarious that anyone would.
They may seem arch to purists but the idea of a hardcore purist in 2008 is itself pretty hilarious.
"...Hardcore for hipsters..." is another variant on above.
Dudes: hardcore in 2008 is mighty thin gruel. They aren't so stupid to think they're a hardcore band anymore so everyone get over it. They made a gorgeous and raging new record, and that's what people will think.

Have you ever read the NME? It's yellow music journalism at its finest. They are also the magazine that just made a huge issue about how American is saving itself and the "underground" through the mersh music of Lil Wayne and Kings of Leon.
COME ON - half of that stuff about FU is stuff the NME is writing, not the band.
Posted by Anonymous | October 5, 2008 10:28 AM
Agreed about the NME - it's the fucking National Enquirer for hipsters, they're a business pure and simple. Having Damien holding a piece of meat and bleeding will sell magazines.
I've listened to the new album a bunch of times. I grew up on hardcore/metal blah blah blah. I agree with the dude above saying the songs are okay, not INSANELY AMAZING. They're not the next Nirvana - it's not real enough. The choruses don't give me chills - it's kinda annoying after 5 listens.
They're a great band - better than most.

Yay sunshine rainbows

Not to dude with opinion: This band sucks. Musically, they're boring. Regardless of your self-fellating about being above "hardcore purists".
Its not being a hardcore purists, its having ears. And this is a dull, useless band.
And there are shitloads of hardcore bands around, so I question your ability to even make such statements.
The only thing gorgeous and raging is the fat fuck on stage. Everything else is just as useless as what every other white person in this country is listening to.

I LOVE IT.
I LOVE IT,I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!
You don't have to like this band BUT for those of you that think this band is a cliche or some Dwarves cock suckers...ha!
You just DON'T get it.
And you know what, we prefer it that way.
P.S. Hardcorepunk's NOT dead...you are.
