First up was Future of the Left a Welsh trio featuring two members of the late, great Mclusky.Future Of The Left opened for Ted Leo and Against Me! at Webster Hall in NYC on Saturday night (Oct 11). It was their first NYC show which is part of a much larger North American tour that continues until October 28th. I couldn't make this show, so I'm looking forward to their return. More pictures from Webster Hall below...The main differences between the two bands are: 1) In FotL, there are a couple of songs in which Andy Falkous plays a keyboard instead of guitar; 2) Falkous and the bassist haven't grown to hate each other. Other than that, it's pretty much the same, and that is a very, very good thing. [Washington Post]

They also played Starland Ballroom in NJ on Friday.

I went to see FoTL before running to Irving to see Killing Joke.
They were totally awesome. The songs were much less restrained and more Mclusky-ish live. They played two or three new songs. I'm out of the loop, is Manchasm a single? When they broke into it a lot of people cheered, more than seemed to know the other material.
It seemed like they went over decently enough with the young kids there for Against Me and Ted Leo.

why would you expect them to do mclusky songs? i would not set foot in webster hall under most circumstances, particularly if the band i wanted to see was opening for against me. will wait for a mercury lounge show or equivalent.

they were incredible. best banter I have heard in a while (from what I could understand through their welsh-ness, something about pouring sprite on someones asshole).
Went to see them, stayed for Ted Leo's blown out voice, left before against me and still felt fine about spending $27.

"Much preferred Falco with the shaved head"
Absolutely.
I'm just going to twiddle my thumbs and wait for the Mclusky reunion. Future of the Left isn't that bad, but it can't how a candle to Mclusky. Cliche but true.
