« Sharon Jones - 2 NYC shows this CMJ week! | Shad (2008 Polaris nominee) added to Thursday BV show »
Photos by Gabi Porter

The Stereogum Tuesday (10/21) late night party had a LATE start. Got there a little before doors were advertised (midnight), and they weren't letting anyone in - the bands were still soundchecking. When they finally let people into the new Studio (an hour after the promised start time), Gang Gang Dance were still soundchecking. The GGD soundcheck eventually blended seamlessly into their set, and I don't remember ever liking the band as much as I did last night. The new space at Webster is intimate, and I'm used to seeing GGD in much more grandiose settings. The set was really hypnotic, but at 2:30 I had to call it a night and go home, so I unfortunately didn't get the chance to see any of the other bands on the bill." - GabiFree shows at The Studio continue all CMJ week. The bands Gabi missed were Marnie Stern, Crystal Stilts, and Ponytail who played the BV show at MHOW earlier in the night. Gang Gang Dance and Marnie Stern are going on tour together. Marnie Stern is also playing the free BV show at Knitting Factory on Saturday. More GGD pictures below...

So... what the fuck was with that guy that kept standing up on the steps and blocking the view? He was like... facing the crowd and moving his hands all around like a jack ass, and then FINALLY someone told him to go away because he was blocking the view and being crazy. He also kept rubbing my friends head when he was standing behind us... What a fucker.

Ok, first of all, GGD put on potentially the show of the year and the best show of the entire week, yet nobody was there...It boggles my mind

Gang Gang should have been followed by Marnie Stern...everyone left after GGD but Ponytail was more of a throwdown than I expected.

Miss Franky Rose and LIzzi would make one hot band!

I loved the spectacle of the drunk Indian guy. He didn't seem that bad during GGD. Or maybe he just didn't have enough room to get down while it was still packed. Since I'm firmly in the camp of not understanding Ponytail, that guys antics saved it for me. The band didn't seem to mind. I left after Marnie Stern. Did anyone stay for Crystal Stilts? What time did it let out?

What boggles your mind about this? Also, which instrument do you play in Gang Gang Dance?

GGD were amazing, totally made up for what a lame experience that gig was otherwise. The venue's ok, not great, needs some work, though the sound system was perfect during GGD. It really was one of the shows of the week. Then it took 45 minutes to get Ponytail ready, which is absurd. Wish I could've stayed for Stilts, but it got too late and the week is young. But anyone who isn't booked for Friday should go see GGD at Santos for sure.

I stayed for the entire show and got out around 4:30. I thought GGD was the best of the four, first time seeing them as well. I'm going to try and make it on Friday.
Anyone know the setlist, or perhaps at the very least what the last song was?

I love the way the comments pages on here have got to the stage where any sort of positive comment is automatically assumed to have come either from a band member or their PR company!

I went for Crystal Stilts, and by the time they played, the only people left were me, people from My Teenage Stride, Human Television, and a few other people mostly in bands. Too bad, because the Stilts, even at 4:30 in the morning, were awesome.

holy shit, Human Television was there, love that band/whatever happened to them...

GGD was amazing, the sound was great.one of the best performances i've seen in awhile. I also liked ponytail a lot. i really wanted to see crystal stilts but had to leave after marnie stern played for what seemed like over an hour( it was almost 4 and she was still playing with no regard that another band was on the bill?!?). that baby talk nursery rhyme singing and talking was embarrassing, probably the worst band i've seen in years.how did they get on that bill? overall a great night/vibe anyway, wish i left before she went on though.
crystal stilts i'll catch you guys next time.
i'm going back to finally check out preacher and the knife on saturday.
