Gothamist day parties, Bell @ the Bell House during CMJ

Bell @ Sound Fix (more by Tim Griffin)
Bell

Gothamist party info below...

Bell House

We have some more details about Gothamist House (there's even a Facebook page!), open during CMJ next week (October 22nd through 25th). The shows will run from 2:30 to 8 p.m. daily...and you'll want to get there early because we'll have a limited amount of gift bags each day (a reusable grocery bag from Whole Foods with goodies from Babeland, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Penguin and others).

So what else do we have to offer? Oh, just a gorgeous new venue complete with both a live room and a lounge (this won't be a dingy, dark, depressing basement venue in Manhattan!), DRINK SPECIALS, close proximity to the peak fall foliage at Prospect Park (stay tuned for a list of sick-day excuses to give your boss), Van Leeuwen hot chocolate floats and music...what more could you ask for? How about: it's FREE (no CMJ badge required) and there will be artwork by Sam Horine and Paula DiGioia.

Our house, aka The Bell House, is located at 149 7th Street in the beautiful Gowanus section of Brooklyn (map), and you can take the M, R or F train to the 4th and 9th stop. There are also a ton of buses that will bring you over (the B71, 75, 77, to name a few). A flyer with the full schedule (including new additions Marnie Stern and Reggie Watts) is after the jump...we hope to see you there! [Gothamist]

yeah, that comment was almost as worthless as the people who get off on posting "First!!!"

Yeah, CMJ sucks pretty hard. Any festival that makes you pay hundreds of dollars for a badge that gets you into any show, then allows the venues to also sell tickets to the same show, while denying badges at the door is fucking lame. It's like Disney dollars, except inflation is way high.

are college kids that come into town really going to head to brooklyn for these shows? i don't think a lot will, sorry to say.

Posted by Anonymous | October 20, 2008 3:43 PM

of course they will. college kids will do anything for free booze and music.

plus, for those who don't have badges, almost every show allows you to pay at the door and there are PLENTY of rad shows that hate CMJ and their badge bullshit. go to those!

i think its a rough cmj but i a big reason for that is because i live here. If i was some kid from a small school, it would be pretty exciting to see a good amount of these acts. but being here and having the opportunity to see A Place to Bury Strangers and Vivians girls all the time, it doesn't have that much of an appeal.

The big issue is nobody really cares in new york. In Austin, the city goes nuts for ACL and SXSW and really embraces it. Here, its just another night of shows. When Terminal 5 (say what you want about it but its one of the bigger venues and has the capacity to showcase some cool stuff) has Coheed and Cambria doing 4 straight nights during CMJ, you gotta wonder "whats the point?" not a knock on the band so much as a reflection of what promoters and bookers think of this showcase

But there are some cool free shows and free booze. I guess you can't really argue with that.

However, Coheed and Cambria were able to sell out 4 straight nights at Terminal 5, go figure. Plus, because Term 5 is so out there, it makes for one of the shittier places to see a show during CMJ.
