just like justice, these guys will be moved to another venue
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:35 PM
Seriously!? What are they thinking?
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:37 PM
in a few weeks, it'll surely change to "bankrupt bank theatre at msg"
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:38 PM
They suck.
We'll they don't suck. By they suck I just mean that they've never tickled my ears.
They should play Terminal 5 or Hammerstein or something.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:41 PM
I thought Interpol was a long shot, but this is just dumb. The Interpol show was very good though.
Posted by michaelways | October 10, 2008 1:42 PM
Was interpol even half filled?
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:44 PM
whaaaaat?!~
Posted by grace6697 | October 10, 2008 1:44 PM
omfg
no no no no no no no no way whatsoever that they'd come even close to filling up even half the venue
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:45 PM
I've got no desire to go but for some reason I think this show will do well and not get moved.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:46 PM
cool... free tix!!!!!
Posted by poor banker dude | October 10, 2008 1:46 PM
im not trying to be pretentious, but these guys were much better when no one knew about them - especially their live show. i saw them open for ben kweller and the strokes years ago, and they were incredible. but that show at APW was dogshit and the new album is just ok. they wont sell half the seats in msg
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:46 PM
hey indiefags:
you don't have to sell out MSG to make money. perception vs. reality. that band would blow out 2 Terminal 5's...why not give it a shot?
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:46 PM
They are pretty big, have sold out Radio City and Roseland several times, and have played huge timeslots on a bunch of festivals. I also think they suck but they may as well skip WaMu and go straight to the arena.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:47 PM
or they'll end up papering the 300s and 400s like they did for weezer, that only wound up selling 11,000 tickets. ("papering" means giving out tickets at the venue to fill seats the day of the show).
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:48 PM
"only sold 11,000 tickets"
then didn't that sales number justify it being there?
seriously, everyone here should stick to their shitty admin jobs and leave the work to the pros. dicks.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:49 PM
You can always tell who the pros are, because the pepper their posts with industry jargon like "dicks" and "indiefags." You tell 'em, guys!
Posted by Dylan | October 10, 2008 2:02 PM
Dylan: have fun paying for tickets your whole life.

'Was interpol even half filled?
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 1:44 PM'
seemed to me like it was either sold out or very close
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:06 PM
For the most part, people don't like them because they're from the South and had a religious upbringing, of which they are not ashamed.
Posted by Jonesboogie, Rawkansas | October 10, 2008 2:06 PM
11,000 is about right for a mid-sized arena, but likely doesn't justify the extremely high cost of renting msg. 11,000 would do much better in nassau or the meadowlands arena, with an almost certainly lower ticket price. alternatively, a band moving 11,000 tickets could do multiple nights in a bigger hall like a roseland, terminal 5, hammerstein, radio city, etc.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:07 PM
who opens ? someone big enough to draw in the undecided ticketbuyers -- ben kweller?
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:07 PM
1 week before January 28th - tickets on sale for 75% on ticketmaster.
Call me I dream of Jeanie but thats my prediction.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:08 PM
MSG can be scaled down to 14,000 depending upon the Degree of Staging, which 89% of BV posters have no fucking clue about. i wish there were blogs where i could judge every indiefag on this site on their dayjob and tell them how fucking bad they are at it.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:12 PM
this band turned to such shit- they use to be good live, smokin good.... now they are all slow and their sounds sucks big time. good luck filling MSG- ha ha ha haaa
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:12 PM
that new album sucks big
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:14 PM
Ben Kweller got added to the Conor Oberst shows at Terminal 5. I imagine due to it not selling out yet!
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:15 PM
you gotta see killing joke tomorrow and sunday at Irving..
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:16 PM
hey, everyone:
Who cares?! If you don't like them, don't go. Clearly they're going to be there for a reason. They are pretty much the number one band in the UK right now and have been for a while. They've headlined in front of 100,000 before. Maybe the UK knows something we don't?
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:17 PM
my friend in ireland told me the last time they played dublin they sold out a 16000 person arena four nights in a row. it's crazy how big they are in europe.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:19 PM
they're huge in europe.
nyc is in america.
Posted by grace6697 | October 10, 2008 2:20 PM
Anything that NME advertises in Europe is big. KOL are not nearly as big in the US and soon enough these tickets will be discounted
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:25 PM
Kings of Leon are what the teenyboppers love- southern heart throb brothers with cute names.
Give me the Allmans anytime!

"Dylan: have fun paying for tickets your whole life."
Sorry, but I'm having trouble figuring out what in the world that's supposed to mean. I'm a sucker for not working in the music industry?
Posted by Dylan | October 10, 2008 2:29 PM
maybe they could fly England over to NYC for the night.
otherwise no, this won't be full. for a band like this, playing MSG is something they take a loss on, just to say they did it, usually because their managment talked them into something dumb a couple years earlier and said "if you do this, you'll be playing MSG next time."
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:45 PM
I'd rather have a job with a future so I can afford to pay for concert tickets as opposed to working in the dying music industry...
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:46 PM
I get a big kick out of how much time and energy people spend scrutinizing these guys and saying how much they suck. All the people who watched them headline Glastonbury must have real shit taste in music.
Posted by Anonymous | October 10, 2008 2:49 PM
While I thought indiefags was worth replying to (not really but it is funnier than hipster douche bag) it was
For the most part, people don't like them because they're from the South and had a religious upbringing, of which they are not ashamed.
That caught my eye.
People don't like them ... because they suck. I am not even willing to give them the "They are not my thing" (Grizzly Bear) or "I don't quite get them but I see why people do" (Animal Collective). They plain old suck. They sold out 100K shows. Big deal. Nickleback sold a bazillion copies of their CD and we can ALL agree THEY SUCK.
KOL are everything that is wrong with Rock. Recycled power riffs. A rhythm section that keeps time in the most uninspired way. Dull lyrics. They are the American Def Leppard (and yes that is a bad thing)
Jan 29th I am sure that Pizza Hut can find 15000 people that would be thrilled to have Tuscani pasta served to them because there is just no accounting for taste.

"beck (yes, he falls in this category especially after his United Palace Theater "shows")"
I am sad for Beck. Can we please have a moment of silence?
He has been at the game a long time (10 + years). But still, his show on Wednesday left me puzzled.
I won't lie, I like the show a lot.
But thats just because it sounded cool hearing his music played live for the first time. And because it brought back childhood memories of winning Mutations on my favorite radio station, buying Mellow Gold as my first CD purchase, etc. I wanted to like it a lot, so i liked it a lot.
I think with Beck you can see an artist who sold his soul a long time ago. Even though he's a great innovator and one of my all time favorites, his charisma is furstunken and he has become a HAS BEEN.
To my Chagrin

Matt and Who?
GOD why are you giving us such uninspiring musicians!
We are trying really really hard to be good, please reward us with something- anything- like those artists in by-gone days when music started revolutions...
I would even take an amiable Johnny Rotten throwback.
Anything, please!

holly molly! msg!... really?
like people say, they are the hot shit in europe, especially the uk. but i didnt/dont see their msg potential.
and to the person who said "liked them better when they werent popular". that's because back then their music used to be decent, good at times, but their last two albums have sucked incredibly. resulting in their huge popularity blow out. :/
Posted by dee | October 10, 2008 8:07 PM
i would respect them if they stopped trying to appeal to hipsters and got real. msg sucks dick, no one get offended, the concert's gonna suck, because they and the venue and the crowd sucks. msg sucks. corporations suck. coldplay sucks. brooklyn for life.

I am pretty sure that they are opening for Tony Christie.
Posted by Alex | October 10, 2008 10:13 PM
The Kings Of Leon are a great band. No they havn't brought anything incredibly new to the table, they are basically a classic rock band living in the modern day, but they are still great musicians playing good music. Their first 2 albums are definately their best work, but their latest 2 releases are also quite good. If You appreciate classic rock groups like Creedence clearwater or more modern day artists like The strokes or Albert hammond Jr. or Dead Confederate then you will probably like the Kings. And for those of you who have listened to them and don't like their music please stop commenting and wasting both fans time and your own. Get a fucking life or if that is too hard go listen to a matt and kim 7" while you jerk off.

It's funny how everyone takes personal offense that KOL would be booked here. The band obviously didn't book themselves-- they're on a giant label and don't make ANY decisions.
Anyway, why does anyone care whether any band can sell enough tickets to fill MSG? Plenty of brilliant musicians would never aspire to sell out MSG. The importance of a band does not relate to how many tickets they can sell.

It's funny to see you impotent hipsters get riled up when a band dares to introduce a little swagger into their stage presence. All you private school, herd mentality clowns now dress like KoL did 5 years ago anyway. (Btw -- the Garden show is all but sold out.) The Kings & their fans are not swayed/bothered by your criticisms. We always knew you would leave us when a modicum of success was achieved and we find your predictability charming.

Relating to KOL's popularity in the U.K. and Europe:
This exposes the strangest paradox about the USA. You all harp on about the "land of the free" over there but in reality it's one of the most conservative and in that sense restrictive societies I've ever come across. Oasis? Don't make me laugh.
Well written tunes, but the words? It's just total horseshit coming out of Liam's mouth.
Anyway to get this rant over with. You guy's don't know a good thing when you have it. Jimi had to come to London before someone took him under his "little" wing:)) I am, by the way, seriousy considering coming over to NY (which on the whole is exempt from the above comments) for the show.

I had the pleasure serving Jared Followill at Blue Fin Times Square about six months ago. Ever since then I have been saving the other half of his club sandwich, with the hope that it will inspire me to wale on the bass so that when he dies of mediocrity I can fuck his girlfriend and pee on his dumb brothers and cousin.
Posted by Anonymous | November 13, 2008 2:09 PM
This show is indeed sold out and Im not that suprised. K.o.L. has always been big time in NYC from the get go just from the strokes comparisons and their opening for them, Dylan, and U2. Even if they arent from the UK, ANY band thats huge in Britain is at least pretty big here in the city, if nowhere else in the country because of the number of British expats living.
I.E. Oasis,David Gray, and Muse have all filled this arena with no problem even if they arent selling 2 million records in THIS country.
Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 5:24 PM
They opened with 'Crawl' & from that moment I felt like I was on a massive rollercoaster - a wave of pure bliss - the sound was FUCKING AMAZING - Caleb's voice filled every single empty corner of MSG & resonated & didn't let up.
Jesus - they did 'Closer' the first time I've heard it live. But they stayed so true to their fans, even though they did a lot more of OBTN they did all the old favs - set list went something like this (no particular order):-
Crawl
Closer
Taper Jean Girl
Slow Night So Long
Milk
The Bucket
Wasted Time
Molly's Chambers
Use Somebody
Sex On Fire
Revelry
On Call
My Party
Fans
McFearless
Charmer
Black Thumbnail
Four Kicks
Trani
Knocked Up
Manhattan
Cold Desert

the show was a 9 or 9.5 out of 10. i was on the floor so maybe that upped my score. but the arena seemed to be completely sold out and everybody seemed to be very into it with real fans. i have never experienced an arena show like that before--very loud and electric (and that was just the audience). i was at the interpol concert and that was mediocre at best. no electricity. so for all you haters out there...they filled the venue and rocked it out to boot.
Posted by greg | January 30, 2009 10:27 AM
Dear Haters,
KoL Melted faces last night, they have busted hump in Europe and finally are getting some huge stateside recognition, needless to say they are executing perfectly just let them bask in it and either support them or don't but please recognize the achievement of selling out msg and putting on an excellent show all while being appreciative of what got them there... Although I must say the whigs were clearly very nervous during the opener never heard them before but wasn't terribly impressed
