Live Nation making ticketing deals w/ venues like Roseland
My Bloody Valentine @ Roseland Ballroom (more)

Live Nation, the Los Angeles-based concert promoter that's moving into everything from recordings to merchandise, has signed up its latest ticketing partner, the Roseland Ballroom in New York City.Trey Anastasio plays Roseland Ballroom tonight (10/16).Live Nation's first big ticketing deal last month was a massive national deal with SMG with potential of up to 10 million ticket sales. But the deal with Roseland is still worthy of note.
Firstly, it's a key mid-size music venue in New York and has hosted the likes of Madonna, Dave Matthews Band and Coldplay in the last few years and was previously serviced by Ticketmaster, Live Nation's soon-to-be-ex ticketing partner.
Secondly, this deal means Live Nation execs are getting closer to Cablevision's New York City empire of live venues like Madison Square Gardens and Radio City Music Hall. [Reuters]

I love a good BV Trey mentioning. :)

So, what exactly does this mean?
Posted by Anon | October 16, 2008 9:42 AM
It means they will now offer a convenience fee even at the box office as well as online ticket sales to make it more convenient for us.

venues like roseland, and even webster hall, they aren't on my radar screen so much. if i'm going, it's to see the white stripes or mbv, in which case the inconvenience is outweighed by the awesomeness of the show. otherwise, they can have it.

another way to make ticket prices even more ridiculous
Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2008 10:19 AM
It means, for at least the next 5 years starting in 2009, LiveNation.com will be the only place to get tickets for Roseland.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

ticket prices are not going to get ridiculous because no one is gonna show up. Look at all the recent cancellations. People are too busy worrying about their jobs and money to bother with this stuff.
Also notice the noticeable drop off in postings on BV, bad economic news is impacting everybody.

Who cares....Roseland has maybe one or two good shows a year
Posted by blah | October 16, 2008 11:00 AM
11am - that's prolly exactly why they're tapping into roseland, bc it generally sucks...they'll prolly try n swing some good bands through.
1036am - as for the economy effecting the bv comments, id assume that could only be a result of two things
1-how many more times can people say the same thing...'show killed it, best show ive ever seen,' or 'terminal5 sucks.'
2-peeps are prolly putting their noses in the books to avoid getting fired at work.

for me, i post less because i'm bv'ed out after atp, the pool closing, and a relative lack of good shows that are well-attended. radiohead's not touring anymore, girl talk has faded from my memory (thank god,) i'm hoping titus andronicus has broken up and that's why we haven't heard about them in a few weeks, and dan deacon isn't even worth the energy to make fun of anymore.

obviously the writer has no clue to what he's talking about.
roseland is a livenation venue for the longest time already, the deal concerns the new livenation
ticketing system as they part ways with the mafioso ticketmaster (and actually looks like they
will have a more fair system).
roseland host a random megastar once in a blue moon, it's the least used nyc venue, def the worst
and the most hated one.
what all that has to do with the dolan's evil empire? beats me.
and that's a reuters writer, pathetic.

How does Roseland stay in business with so few shows?
Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2008 3:12 PM
comments are down because bv is moderating comments that make fun of dan deacon and hipsters. someone got their panties in a bunch.
Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2008 3:49 PM
first of all, roseland fucking blows
second, this shows how corporate shit is getting with live nation taking over everything when it comes to shows.
all just to get more money from us.

ha! i worked on a tour promoted by livenation this summer and it was pretty clear the entire time that they are on their way out the door. is it hilarious or sad to see them claw their way down this sinkhole? not sure, but they are totally about to go bankrupt, i guarantee that.
