King Khan w/ LiveFastDie
LiveFastDie

"Livefastdie are probably my favorite band in New York right now. Seeing them live is like watching three-to-five crazed gibbons spinning out of control on the edge of a towering precipice, if that were a rock and roll band who play funny songs that sound like the Ramones. (I know citing the Ramones is music-journalism shorthand for "I don't know any other punk bands," but in this case it's true.)" [VICE]
Continuing with our "Where's King Khan?" series (previous CMJ spottings = at the Antics Black Lips show & at his own show with BBQ), here's a set of pictures from Thursday (10/23) night's MyOpenBar party at Don Pedro's...

this show probably would have had a crowd at it if it weren't at such a terrible place

that kid in the aNYthing shirt needs to pull up his fuckin pants

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2008 5:53 PM

my god. that's thomas moreton in the middle of the "mosh-pit." what a meak individual.

Posted by Joe-se | October 29, 2008 5:55 PM

what, were there like 25 people there?

looks like Don Pedro's built themselves a new stage. Hilarious that it's still not big enough to put a whole band on.

Don Pedro's and the garage crowd are perfect for each other. Don Pedro's is run by huge idiots, and the garage crowd thinks being an idiot is the coolest shit ever.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2008 5:59 PM

What's with all the harsh feelings towards Don Pedro's? the King Khan & BBQ shows I've seen there are the best shows I've ever seen.

I think it's the best club in the city to see boogie woogie garage rock.

And Live Fast Die are pretty sick.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2008 7:17 PM

LiveFastDie are TIGHT.

Saw them at The Middle East w/ King Khan this past summer... their vocals ought to be a bit louder live, but get the record with the fire on the cover. It's split between tempos on each side. Fantastic!

The dude with the American Flag Bandanna in Live Fast Die has a really sick band of his own called Liquor Store. I saw them play together this summer and they were both awesome.

those more concerned with show attendance figures should be reading Entertainment Weekly or Variety instead of this thought-provoking (cough) blog. Those mags boil down culture to easily digestible numbers for numbskulls that aren't so confident in forming opinions for themselves.

Yeah geez somebody sounds bitter about something. What the hell do you care? Don Pedro is not run by idiots. It's run by people who know how to have a good time. I'd like to see that douchebag's idea of a good club.

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2008 11:25 PM

I'm gonna have to side with the hater here. Don Pedro's sucks to see shows at.

It was briefly fun to go to and then it just got.... awkward.

Vivian Girl's hamburger tat = lamest ink ever.

RE: 7:28 PM

Just to let you know all members of Livefastdie are also in Liquor Store as well as some, if not all, of Titus Andronicus, Sick As Deth, and VCR.

looks like a fucking moron fest. only good thing is the crushed aviator glasses. someone should point al-qaeda in this general direction

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 12:05 PM

garage is a trend that a lot of people have seen enough of

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 12:13 PM

NO TALENT ... You Guys are fucking brainwashed

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 12:26 PM

RE: 12:26

And you're some sort of Joe Satriani virtuoso or some shit???

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 12:39 PM

LFD is so damn good. Super cool guys too.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 1:22 PM

don pedro's is the fukkin shit... its these 2 bands that are overrated and awkward...enuff with everyone sukking dikk on bands that blow.. what are you proving? better to sukk dick on bands with blow, at least you can get high..

regardless, king khan is still cool

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 2:43 PM

LFD is OVERrated???
News to, uh.....EVERYONE.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 3:11 PM

don pedros is for chumps

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 5:20 PM

What's the deal with the VG drummer having a mic in her bodice?

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 5:36 PM

it's because don pedros doesn't have enough mic stands.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2008 5:43 PM

Wow, commenting on how many people were there...Hmm. Anyway, Don Pedro's is THE best club in town for seeing a rock'n'roll show, period! I moved here from Ohio, and I can't understand people who claim DP is soooo out of the way. Um, you have subways here. What, another 2 stops is gonna kill you? And most younger music fans have fresh livers, can stay up late, and live within a 20 +/- minute walk from there. Plus, you don't have to deal with douchebags from other clubs showing up. The people who are there want to be there, and usually for the bands. How novel.

Posted by Lance Forth | October 31, 2008 1:48 PM

nobody thinks don pedros is out of the way. people think don pedros is shitty, and not in a fun way. bad bands, bad vibes, bad people. it just sucks to go there

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2008 2:10 PM

God damn... before 1 am that shit was packed to the brim. And the place was an awesome spot to see a show... now see if you can post something negative on every post. losers. refresh refresh refresh. lame.

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2008 9:35 AM

hey, I had a show in shitty bar where 20 people (see above) showed up - can I post my pics on this blog?

Posted by Anonymous | November 1, 2008 10:10 AM

"garage is a trend that a lot of people have seen enough of"

garage is just plain ole rock and roll and will never
go away, thankfully.

Posted by gregory | November 1, 2008 10:11 AM

5th wave garage revival is almost as bad as 4th wave ska revival.

and they're both embarrassing relics of bad taste

by the way, Don Pedro's is a perfect place for garage to go and die again. the garage scene can have it! good riddance

Posted by Anonymous | November 2, 2008 11:11 PM

What are you fucking talking about "garage"?

Vivian Girls sound like something that would have been on C86 and LFD are more a raging punk band than anything else...like Poison Idea and GG combined. This isn't the Sonics over here you dipshit. Go back to your She & Him records you pathetic excuse for an AIDS receptacle.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2008 11:49 AM

how typical, a garage dude "wins" his argument by calling the other guy a fag.

nobody said jackshit about the Vivian Girls, buddy. The talk was about garbage like Live Fast Die and how much Don Pedro's is a bummer to see shows at.

Posted by Anonymous | November 3, 2008 1:46 PM

you know why the current garage trend doesn't really amount to anything?

because when Jay Reatard and Black Lips and King Khan songs are all best is when they work on a novelty band level. It's always about two steps away from being the Monster Mash, or at least the Misfits.

there's nothing serious or interesting about it, which is cool for while cause all that pretentious precious indie crap has started grating on everyone's nerves.

But after awhile, the new garage stuff is just limited in what is has to say. It doesn't really mean anything, and so it's way too easy for it all to end up sounding the same, and it gets boring real fast.

Posted by Anonymous | November 9, 2008 3:10 PM

Do you people even like music? Or are you using it to anonymously vent frustrations stemming from other aspects of your life that have nothing to do with a show you didn't go to?

Posted by Anonymous | November 17, 2008 1:58 AM

Don Pedro loves you all.
