I saw Black Dice live approximately four years ago, opening for Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
They were the hands-down worst band I've ever seen live in my entire life. After their godawful set, about 2% of the crowd legitimately cheered; the rest was 49% booing and 49% sarcastically slow-clapping.

HAHAHAH I would imagine that fucking Yeah Yeah Yeahs fans would respond in such a fashion. I have a feeling Brian was the one who suggested they open for them, as he's the only one with any taste there. You can have your Siouxsie Bklyn trash fashion bullshit. Black Dice is amazing.

I can't imagine a Black Dice set going over very well with a YYY audience, especially circa 2004. It's just a bad fit. They were pretty great tonight, as usual, but it was kind of disappointing to see so many people leave after Ponytail. It's after midnight at a Todd P show in (more or less) Bushwick. If you showed up, you probably know who BD are. Where the hell else are you going?
Danbro is also a pretty great place to see a show.

black dice are awful. they ALWAYS mix too high and the sound is too high in general. and their music is bad. ponytail is amazing live. quite possibly the best live band out right now.

how were Black Dice? I hated missing this show, since their April set at MHOW was one of the best sets I've ever heard from them, if not THE best, and Ponytail have done like the dozen best live sets I've heard all year. What a bill.

10:07 -- yup, it actually kind of was. And I typically hate "[bestworst] ever" comments. all shows should be in cavernous, semi-creepy reclaimed industrial spaces.

definitely the best show ive seen in over a year- only animal collective on their 2007 tour was better. i'd never seen black dice before and they fucking killed- such talented artists. ponytail was fun as hell and women brought it hard as well. it was great to see barr again and vivian girls were fun despite the sound being shit. overall a fantastic venue with an impossible to beat lineup. thanks todd p!
