NYC buys Coney Island Wonder Wheel site

New York City has bought the one-acre site of the Wonder Wheel for $11 million as part of the Bloomberg administration's plan to preserve the historic character of Coney Island, the city announced on Wednesday. [NY Times]Astroland closed in September.
In related news, Coney Island USA will be holding a benefit at Rebel on November 3rd. Performers include lie Atlas Muz, Prof. Jo Boobs and Angie Pontani.

because when the economy bounces back, all the money in the world wont bring back those historical sites. imagine SoHo if those commercial lofts had been razed. or for that matter the McCarren Pool....
