Okkervil River

Austin's Okkervil River are in the midst of a tour that brings them to NYC to play two shows at Webster Hall this coming Monday and Tuesday with Crooked Fingers (Eric Bachmann) and Austin's Black Joe Lewis & The Honey Bears...

Black Joe Lewis & The Honey Bears were one of the really fun, live suprises of SXSW 2008 for me. I had heard mention of this band when they were out opening for Spoon last year, but had yet to hear the recorded work or see a live show. The Club DeVille set was full of big, bold soulful grooves that had everyone dancing. With his soul revival sound, James Brown-esque yells, a fresh face and a big smile, Black Joe Lewis was very easy to love. [My Old Kentucky Blog]
Tickets are still on sale for both shows. This past weekend Okkervil played a show at the Austin City Limits Festival. More pictures from that below...

Daves,

How was Crooked Fingers? Last time Eric played Bowery was easily one of the best shows I saw that year.

I hadn't seen C.F. since 03...they were good last night...and they played Web In Front!

I was getting tired and that woke my ass up quickly...one of the most instantly recognizable songs ever.

Almost identical setlist tonight (first night at Webster), only we had Starry Stairs, Blue Tulip, The War Criminal Rises and Speaks, Okkervil River Song, On Tour with Zykos.

And no John Allyn Smith.

What were the set times last night?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2008 10:05 AM

Yes, someone please post set times

More importantly, what time do Crooked Fingers go on?

And what is the food situation at Webster Hall these days? Last time I was there, they sold cold, hard pizza.

Black Joe Lewis and the Honey Bears - 8pm
Crooked Fingers - 8:45pm

Thanks for the set times.

Any recommendations on good bars with good tunes in the WH vicinity?

This band is amazing.

Last night's show was incredible, definitely the most emotional set I've seen in a long time. I think the reason Okkervil doesn't tour constantly is because I can't imagine Will Sheff has the physical capability to play with so much intensity every night. I still can't believe how the room, which was completely packed, was dead silent during "A Stone." Amazing show. If I had the funds necessary to do so I'd go again tonight.

Also, they're doing a going-green thing and selling $2 stickers at the merch table that go directly to offsetting carbon emissions from the tour. Each sticker is numbered and there's a raffle onstage to win the only copy of a song they've been recording backstage with horn arrangements. Last night's was "Starry Stairs," not sure if it's going to be the same.

Cool.

What's on the sticker?
