Phenomenal Handclap Band

The BrooklynVegan official CMJ showcase at Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight (Tuesday, 10/21) is sold out, though a limited number of CMJ badges will be given "free" entry on a first come, first served basis. Happy Hour ($3.00 drinks) starts at 6pm. Emmy the Great goes on at 7pm sharp. The no-longer secret guest Shearwater goes on at 8:30. Jens is at 11:00, and The Phenomenal Handclap Band go on at midnight which is also the time we'll open the doors, capacity permitting, for free. Come see TPHB after whatever else you're doing tonight, at no cost, no badge required (assuming the place is still not at capacity after Jens).

Tonight will be TPHB's 4th show ever. Their third was the other night at Southpaw with their Daptone cousins the Menehan Band. Some more pictures from that show, a few more dates, and a video, below....

Congrats on the sellout BV. BV Presents has grown nicely over the last few years.

I'm losing respect for BV thanks to all the hype you've been creating for this coked-up yuppie lounge music band. Musically, their never-ending 1-chord funk jam is cringe-inducing, and they seem to represent some kind of upscale NU-LES bourgeois aesthetic. Why, BV? Why?

or apparently talent is just shit to 8:30

"Peep the Phenomenal Handclap Band's MySpace page and you'll see a line-up that could double as an eclectic music festival. Players include members from TV on the Radio, Amy Winehouse's band, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Escort, The Mooney Suzuki, Calla, Si*Sé, and L'Trimm ("Cars That Go Boom"). The project is spearheaded by Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand, two DJs who are moving towards live music-making on their own terms. "

Forget all that and use your ears, 8:43. Anyone is capable of making bad music, regardless of their resumé. Kind of like the US sucking at basketball at the olympics.

i was at their southpaw show and thought they were pretty good. the crowd liked them alot too. i didn't think they would fill southpaw but it was just nuts. it's definitely not your run of the mill indie music. it's friggin daptone.

Anyone know if Aurelio or Jaleel were there?

830, why don't you just admit that watching 6 indie bands and Jens Lekman's questionable DJ set was too much for you and you had to get home to sit in front of the tube and stuff your face, but you didn't want to miss anything, so you saw half of one song of PHB and decided you'd try out your hackneyed music-critic lingo and make a poor assessment of an original and very talented band?
