School of Seven Bells

As Bill pointed out, School of Seven Bells were supposed to play a set at the Terrorbird party at Cake Shop today, but things ran late so they didn't get a chance. As also previously pointed out, the band (featuring ex-members of Secret Machines and On! Air! Library!) will be going out on tour with M83 in November. That starts in Georgia and ends in LA, but has them back home for a day on November 14th to play a show at Webster Hall.

In the meantime there is still one more (public) NYC chance to see them and that is this Saturday night (10/25) at (le) poisson rouge as part of the Ghostly CMJ showcase with Matthew Dear's Big Hands, Michna, and Mike Servito. SOSB's album Alpinisms is out now on iTunes and everywhere on October 28th. The flyer for that and all tour dates below....

I'm hoping to get myself over to the Fader Party to see them Friday.

Yeah that was bullshit. They lost a fan yesterday.

Posted by Anonymous | October 23, 2008 10:22 AM

Yeah - from what I understand, it's more that School of Seven Bells weren't going to get quite as long of a set as they wanted, so therefore they decided they weren't going to play at all. They lost *two* fans yesterday, and I'd venture to guess more than that as well.
Show was awesome otherwise.

These day shows have to be hard for them... they have a LOT of gear. Their debut is great.

I really dig the single they put out on Suicide Squeeze a few months back, "Silent Grips".

Sorry if you think we'd actually be so lame that we'd cancel because our set time was too short! That's crazy! We love to play music, and were really looking forward to playing at Cake Shop. It's one of our favorite venues! We were only planning on playing 20 minutes, anyway.
We showed up at Cake Shop at 10:00AM, before the sound guy was even there with all of our gear, just so we could set up quickly to have the maximum amount of time to play that evening.

Just before Marnie Stern's set (which was awesome, btw!), We were told that the venue had to be absolutely emptied for the nights show by 6:30PM, and that we had to stop by 6:10PM to get out. This was at about 5:40PM. Unfortunately, our stage set up is pretty elaborate, with tons of wires going all over the place, so even if we busted our ass trying to set up, we just can't do it in less than 15 minutes.

We turned down many other CMJ shows and chose to play this one because it was obviously one of the coolest for us to be a part of. We love the bands we were playing with, Tobacco and Marnie Stern especially, but it was just overbooked! This was made even more apparent by the fact that Takka Takka, who played 2 bands before us, was playing 1/2 hour later, 2 doors down at Piano's! Well, last night, people were lucky enough to see 2 Takka Takka show's in less than two hours, but there wasn't enough time for 15 minutes of SVIIB.

It makes us really sad to see that these (anonymous) people believe that we'd disrespect an audience so badly, but it's really not the case. I hope they see this message, and perhaps rethink what they've heard.

We do have to thank the Terrorbird people, though. They did such a great job all day. I'd say booking 10 bands in 6 hours, and only have it run 45 minutes behind is an incredible feat.

BTW,
After the show, Andy from Cake Shop told us that they knew there wouldn't be time for everybody, and they were "hoping all along that one band would cancel", and they were "very sorry that it had to be us".

At least when you get kicked off an over-booked flight you get a free ticket ;-)

See you around,

Benjamin

If Ben Curtis is going to answer criticisms here:

Whatever happened with the drummer and the bass player? Wired for Light was DOPE with drums and I loved the bassline in Limb by Limb.

A way back outdated ones. I wish I could see and get to know the play more.
I guess there are recent ones or have these guys have another roles, or got another job?
I would love to see plays these days, I missed the times I participated once on our school.
