The Kills

Rockers the Kills have been left baffled after their tour bus and driver mysteriously disappeared midway through their current U.S. tour.

The band, which includes Kate Moss' ex-boyfriend Jamie Hince, last saw the vehicle on September 26 in Los Angeles before it vanished, along with the driver and all of their luggage.

The duo -- who have been supporting The Raconteurs on the string of live dates -- have called in officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a bid to trace the bus.

Guitarist/singer Alison Mosshart says, "It is thought that the driver has committed grand theft auto or that he is in some kind of trouble.

"The bus and driver were last seen on the morning of September 26 at a Prevost dealership in Los Angeles. The driver got some new tires and was set to head to Austin, Texas, to meet up with us. His phone has been off since that afternoon.

"Federal investigators and police are searching for the bus and driver throughout the U.S. and Mexico. We are currently traveling to Nashville (Tennessee) and have no luggage or belongings."

Mosshart has also made an appeal for the return of the vehicle, asking anyone who sees a black Prevost tour bus with Tennessee license plates reading 0305 EA to call the U.S. police. [SFGATE]

The Kills will end their tour this weekend in NYC with two sold out shows in a row at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Last weekend they played the Austin City Limits Music Festival (September 28). More pictures from that below...

Looks like a wack Royal Trux.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2008 11:31 PM

The bus is in Williamsburg.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2008 11:35 PM

i fucking hate people who "dress rock 'n roll"

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 12:41 AM

I was hoping my head what be in a picture since I was right there in the front row. But the bus thing explains why they looked a little bit "dirtier" and "shottier" than normal. But that's rock n roll I guess, and it was a good show anyway.

The Kills are one of the bigger indie rock poseur bands of recent memory. All style, very little substance.

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 12:47 AM

I'll give you that they very are poseur-ish(sic), but they do make some good records and were one of the best bands I saw on a very good acl lineup at a god awful set time (1:30 pm in Texas heat). Besides, almost every band posted about on this blog is somewhat posuer-ish. As for the Royal Trux comment, they can't be a "wack" Royal Trux because Royal Trux were one of the worst bands to ever live. Talk about pretentious, incoherent bullshit. Have you actually listened to the Kills? They're a million times better than RTX.

Posted by Antonio | October 3, 2008 1:02 AM

No Wow is a great record.

Twin Infinitives by RTX is also a great record, even if it's a bit more cereberal.

"even if it's a bit more cereberal"

Haha.

They make enough money to afford a tour bus and driver instead of a van?

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 3:34 AM

Not enough for a good driver though......

12:47 AM- "The Kills are one of the bigger indie rock poseur bands of recent memory. All style, very little substance."

Response: In full agreement.

3:34 AM- "They make enough money to afford a tour bus and driver instead of a van?"

Response: I know. What the f#ck? Who would support their college indie rock ala no talent? Music is eh, lyrics are worthless... not even poppy.

Their new album is actual quite good. "Last Day of Magic" is a better single than anything Jack White's written in years. I think people have a gut revulsion to folks they deem "in the fashion world."

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 8:42 AM

I bet their management was behind on paying the driver and/or bus company and he bolted. It happened to a band I was touring with a few years back. The driver wasn't getting paid and he held our bus ransom in a Newark airport parking lot.

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2008 9:02 AM

yes, not only are they better than jack white, they're better than radiohead and nirvana. get used to it.

don't confuse RTX with Royal Trux--RTX is the Neil haggerty-less project of '04 to present inolving Jennifer Herrema and some dudes she met at guitar center, coming together to make conceptual-art hair metal! Totally different beast, even if late-period Royal Trux did have some forays in art-hair-metal, like "waterpark". Not sure how the Kills fit in to this--they seem a lot less tongue and cheek than royal trux + RTX, though!

"They make enough money to afford a tour bus and driver instead of a van?"

The euro still has value. Next.

Yeah, they're way bigger in the UK too, where gold pours from the ATM's (or cash points if you like).

The Kills are The Shit!

Posted by R08 | October 3, 2008 2:40 PM

The Kills are the most exciting band out there at the moment. Their aura throbs with mystique and danger and their music works so well in many contexts. God forbid an indie band care about creating an intriguing visual image. Most of their peers are as anonymous as anything. The Kills seethe personality. Looking forward to their shows this weekend.

Posted by Alexis | October 3, 2008 3:40 PM

Alexis made the right point. It was nice at the acl fest to see a band that had an intriguing image, yet it wasn't too much. Isn't art about putting out an image or perception even if it isn't neccesarily real. You think Lou Reed pranced around stoic in dark sunglasses during his pre-teens or Bowie in drag? They're artist, its an image it doesn't have to be "real." That's part of the fun of being a musician. Are actors poseurs or writers that write about things they may not have experienced firthand?

I love the albums, but boy do they suck live! I was really let down last night.

The Kills rocked in Portland. Raw-seriously GREAT tones and delivered with conviction.

I instantly played the raw "Keep on Your Mean Side'
when it was realeased and it crossed the tables at a college station where I had a weekly show. IT KICKED ASS!
among all the slowly driveling self absorbed sea of crap putting me to sleep at that time. My own thoughts and not shared by others. It took many listeners by surpise and it was played almost every show of mine. Being a career musician myself and on the cerebral side in style this was a refreshing blast. I adore AC/DC as well as Eno , The Master Musicians of Jajouka and Chopin via Ivo Pogorelich. I too like Royal Trux-NOT RTX.
I took in an RTX show aboyut 2 years ago-COMPLETELY WASTED JH-waste of time.nowhere.Sickening
The Kills were absolutely KINETIC in Portland/9/08
Cerebral? No place in this hard driven rock. BLOW ME.
Creative and Muscled guitar playing and tone
The recorded backing tracks are powerful and expertly EQ'd. HEART POUNDING KICK LIVE..AHHH! ALMOST FUNK AT TIMES.(I once worked with Martin Hannett in studio and have persnickity drum eq standards)
I also had the pleasure to hang out with them and I was pleasantly suprised at how 100% unpretentious and matter of fact the pair were.
AND VEGAN to Moo boot.
I couldn't say the same for the other act on the bill and left promplty into their green room appearance post show. Keep Kicking Aural Ass U-TWO! Anal dissectors of every track/ band should go live in grannies basement. Chi-Town hustler
