Who the fuck is paying to see this band? Honestly.

good for them!

oh. they haven't faded into oblivion yet? i guess those kids need something else to listen to other than their juno soundtrack.

Michael Cera likes Vampire Weekend so backoff! He is the King of all Hipsters. Cera be thy name!

i like them but the shows aren't that great since there is only one albums worth of material to pull from. so they have to play the weak tracks from the record to fill out the show. just wait until the 2nd album comes out and no one cares and they're back to bowery or webster size venues.

Good for them! You guys are just haters like always.

Scoundrels! The beasts have returned to claim yet more souls.
I will vanquish them with my Vampire Killer, as my bloodline is destined.
...as long as a Medusa head doesn't knock me off a cliff.

Does anyone remember when they couldn't sell out the Old Office at the Knitting Factory????
Enjoy Fading away forever.

i think we should dig up all the comments from two years ago when everyone on brooklynvegan kind of liked vampire weekend, like 'they made pop music but it's interesting and new.' now there is such an overwhelming hate for them that goes hand in hand with playing terminal 5 shows.
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2008 6:10 PM
How about the 10,000 people who were in line for their summerstage concert - I know, I got in even after everyone was told to go home because of the rain.
Get over yourselves brooklyn vegan blog readers, Vampire Weekend is a goddamn good band, the best to come out of this side of the East River for a while...you're not gonna start bashing TV on the Radio because Pitchfork gave them a good review (something that scums like you guys usually do - fuck hipsters!)

I stand by the haters on this band. this music is really bad. it's like they've got no hair on their balls or no balls at all. ball-less weekend. Yep. that's where I'm leaving it.
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2008 11:46 PM
they are a 'good' band in that they are big enough to have a manager to do all the busy work and obviously have a good press agent.
but there a dozens of brooklyn bands with more talent than them... that write better songs and play better live shows. VW are GOOD in that they are playing the corporate music world well (or well enough i guess)

Um.... no. The Brooklyn music scene is vastly overrated, and produces mostly shit.
If Vampire Weekend produced the same music, but came from Brooklyn and dressed like bohemians, you silly hipsters would be all over their jocks like MGMT.
The only reason why hipsters don't like this band is because the guys are white collar rich kids who went to Columbia and dress preppy.
There's no other reason for hipsters to be so violently opposed to such pleasant, inoffensive tunes.

i remember when no more than a dozen students would show up to see them play gigs all over columbia's campus.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2008 2:10 AM
I think 1:22 is right on.

"...all over their jocks like MGMT. "
People like MGMT??!? That's the worst album I've heard thus far this year.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2008 9:36 AM
i don't agree with 1:22. i don't like vampire weekend because their music is not that good. mgmt is not good either. i'm not violently opposed to it. you're right... it's pretty 'pleasant' and 'inoffensive'. but it's also boring, uninteresting, and like i said, not good.
they are GOOD at being successful in the money-making music world. they could pump out 10 songs or so and a few catchy tunes. but these tunes are sugary and simple and pop and most were sick of them quickly. i do not have faith that they can continue their careers, writing good music. they are NOT that good of musicians. they're okay.

Why do people keep bitching about 'the money-making music world' when talking about Vampire Weekend?
Are you stoned? Their album sold like 20,000 copies in its first week. They're an indie band signed to XL. They do not sell millions of records, or make tons of money.
If you want to be an annoying hippie and bitch about 'the man' and 'the music machine,' then take your frustrations out on something like Nickelback... or Katy Perry.

When he was needed most, Bat Boy ditched his newly appointed position of Deputy Treasury Secretary to see a secret Vampire Weekend concert.

VW is a nice band that got way too big, way too fast. Alas, that is the way of the world these days. I will cherish their pleasant afternoon show at ERMP last summer, and avoid this T5 monstrosity like the plague.

I didn't even know how popular they were until I saw their fan page on Hollywood.com

They played a bunch of movies! I think their performance on SNL really blew them up. Four sold out shows!

Vampire Weekend =s the lighter side of Weezer meets the lighter side of The Police.
Hey, its a niche, maybe even an semi-enjoyable one. They could be a lot worse.
