sarah silverman opened for jenny lewis. no joke. it was awesome.
Posted by wembly | October 4, 2008 10:36 PM
yeah. sarah silverman did open for jenny. interesting surprise, for sure.
i thought jenny was alright, and still a pretty big step up from her earliest shows with the watson twins. jenny, meanwhile, really seemed to love every second of playing the apollo. she looked to be in tears after acid tongue, with lots of "wow, how'd this happen?" remarks throughout the set.

Glasvegas were something else at Merc, the best lighting I've ever seen there, giant sound, they had it all figured out, total package...roadies out the wazoo (not saying that's a good thing), giant bus outside...it was like a stadium show for 200 people.

I enjoyed Glasvegas at Radio City, but oh man, that Mercury show was one of the best of the year for me.

Nick Cave absolutely bloodspattered. "Stagger Lee" at the end was a gore orgy, so were "Tupelo," "Deanna," "Hard On For Love," "Midnight Man," "The Mercy Seat," "Orpheus's Lyre"...
compliments to the crowd up front, who seemed to keep the great man very entertained.
"We live in confusing times, ladies and gentlemen. This is a song we wrote to answer all these questions you keep asking. Be attentive, and the rewards will be great. (to keyboardis) What IS this song? Oh yes--WE CALL UPON THE AUTHOR TO EXPLAIN!"
