It's starting to look like a RISD alumni bash over at Santos! These alums are brewing up a night of experimental-dance-folk, with performances by The Present, Soft Circle, Kria Brekken and DJs Andrew Kuo & Taka Hiro.
The Present, Rusty Santos' (producer Animal Collective, Panda Bear) new outfit, is a real testament to his songwriting prowess. Coupling experimental sounds with accessible melodies, The Present pumps an arty-pop sound that engages the mind, but doesn't try to over-think itself. Soft Circle, the one-man band manned by Hisham Bharoocha (Pixeltan, ex-Lightning Bolt, Black Dice), serves up percussive, yet delicate noise. At times ambient, Soft Circle bridges psychedelic patterns and atonal melody into a soothing landscape, reminiscent of "Creature Comforts"-era Black Dice. Kria Brekken, a project of Icelandic songstress Kristin Anna Valtysdottir (formerly of the band Mum) plays ethereal experimental-pop. NYC artist Andrew Kuo will be on the decks with Taka Hiro.
