a 1988 CMJ badge (Marc's museum of indie rock novelties)

CMJ badges look much more modern these days. They also cost much more these days - $495 to be exact (at today's non-student rate). Now one can be yours for free, courtesy of Yep Roc Records, home of Mercury Rev, Robyn Hitchcock, Loudon Wainwright III, Billy Bragg and many others. CMJ runs in NYC from October 21-25. To win this badge...
To win: Email BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM (subject: CMJ). Include your first and last name and age. One winner will be contacted randomly. As always, your email will not be shared with anyone. Good luck.

unless you're going to the daytime panel stuff, a badge is not worth it.

^ why?

because having a badge doesn't guarantee that you even get into any shows. if you really want to see one of the shows, just get a ticket or show up insanely early if you have a badge because chances are they'll only let in 50 badges or something.

only let in 50 badges? false.

Jason Bergman knows what he's talking about. The guy's been to and photographed more shows than any of us. What are your credentials, Anon 12:46? Oh, that's right, you have none.

A Bowery Ballroom show lets in about 100 badges. That's not a lot of badges if you consider how many people have badges. $75 not only buys you tickets to all five nights of shows at Bowery Ballroom, it guarantees you get in, and when you want. Maybe you want to go to two CMJ shows every night. Maybe they all cost $15 a show. That is still only $150 in concert tickets. The badge costs $500. You do the math.

is this contest fixed? Why is age relevant??
Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2008 6:02 AM
Yeah, BV. Are you gonna card the winner?
Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2008 7:26 AM
Bowery lets in around 150 badges
Mercury lets in between 50-70 badges
Music Hall same as Bowery
Webster Hall lets in about 3-400 badges
But yeah, if you're a badgeholder you should be punctual, although aside from press/industry there really aren't that many public badgeholders because they're just way overpriced. They cost the same as a SXSW badge.

I fucking hate the "photographers" who now make-up such a large part of the music press corp. Why do we need so many of them and why are they so annoying?
I know, I know, it's an art form and they document reality for all of us who are absent or, in this case, to uncool not to have access to the hippest events.
The worst thing about shows these days is the fact that even regular folk spend a large part of their viewing time recording or taking pics. What ever happened to just watching and feeling it?

What's the point of going to a show if you can't show people on facebook pictures of how much cool fun you're having?
Geez Louise!

when does this contest end?

Man!!!! Anon 12:50 has got his nose so deep up Jason's ass that it's actually coming out of Jason's nose. Relax dude.
personally, I find if a photographer is driving you crazy at a show, just start taking pictures of him/her. They usually get pissed and leave your area.
Lastly, I believe the dawgs at the venue when they give full discriptions on how many badges are allowed in and frankly I say fuck the badge and rock the venue passes instead.
Sorry BV

Let's face it, nobody on this board is buying a badge. I mean, f*ck that. Either you get one paid for by the company you work for or you just don't get one. $495 is stupid. However, I'll take a free badge if offered.
