Deerhunter, Times New Viking & Knyfe Hyts @ Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY - pics

Deerhunter

"A deer hunter from the Twin Cities got lost Sunday in the Beltrami State Forest in Roseau County, but was quickly found, according to the Roseau County Sheriff's Office.

The man, from New Brighton, Minn., a Twin Cities suburb, called 911 about 12:44 p.m. Sunday saying he had been lost for about two hours." [Grand Forks Herald, North Dakota]

True story.

The Deerhunter & Times New Viking tour hit Brooklyn on Friday night (11/7). We had a real review planned, but the dog ate it, so how was the show??? Gabi said Deerhunter just keeps getting better and better. Lori approved equally of the show at Bowery Ballroom the next day. More Brooklyn pictures, opener Knyfe Hyts included, below...

more like Dorkhunter!! see what I did there??

never heard a song by this band ever, but after seeing them it reminds me of music that would play at one of those parties where everyone is there with a gf/bf and NO ONE gets laid. bunch of white people slightly swaying and looking bored.

ps - Beth from TNV is an absolute angel :)

With the release of "Microcastle" Deerhunter have come close to knocking off Animal Collective and My Morning Jacket as North America's preeminent band. that is until "Merriweather Post Pavillion" drops I reckon.

Great show (MHOW) getting a high-five from whitney petty was both odd and awesome at the same time.

I was impressed with TNV. Locket should sing Agoraphobia...

Posted by Eduardo | November 10, 2008 4:31 PM

Eduardo, I agree that Lockett should sing Agoraphobia. His voice is great on that song.

The bowery show was great. Side note- I saw all 3 members of Yo La Tengo in the audience.

this is a very impressive band, i was really blown away. they've taken a big step up and really deserve a serious look and should be bigger than they are. i was not into their earlier stuff but they are on fire right now. check 'em out for real

Bowery show killed. Never been so shocked by a band as I was by Deerhunter. TNV and VG met my expectations. I love them both and they were solid. But wow, Deerhunter blew me away. After TNV I said to my wife "I think I was more excited for TNV than Deerhunter." Well, I clearly had no idea what to expect from Cox, et al. Truly phenomenal.

I only saw John Norris of MTV News fame in the audience. And spoke to the lead-singer of VG outside having a cig. She's sweet.

i got laid!

hey 4:17 - really classy of you to pick on a guy's physical appearance when that appearance is caused by a disease.

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 4:50 PM

deerhunter rockerd
it was loud though
i mean i like loud but it was really loud
i never use earplugs and i had to.

Vivian Girls and Times New Viking were both very good. Deerhunter was good to, but I was expecting more, I think I was hoping they'd be more jammy live like the old records, not that I don't like the new one but they just sounded like they were playing the album with claps in the background.

then again, I was talking about the bowery ballroom show, maybe the williamsburg one was better.

Dude, please eat. Seriously, that t-shirt looks like its on a fucking hanger. Sick.

Deerhunter posts always = Bradford needs a cheeseburger.
Fuck you assholes. Go look in the mirror, you're the fucking dickhead wearing stretch jeans, boat shoes and a cardigan.

i saw all yo la tengo, john norris, and david cross at bowery.

The guy has muscular dystrophy. Asshole

Great show at Bowery...they played a whole lot more from Cyprograms than I expected. It was about half and half Microcastle/Cryptograms.

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 5:12 PM

Deerhunter rocks. I like Weird Era a little bit better than Microcastles.

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 5:13 PM

Actually, Bradford has Marfan's syndrome, but the comments are still assinine.

There's a live recording of the complete Music Hall show on another website.

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 5:15 PM

From allmusic...

"Cox is also a striking on-stage presence: the exceedingly skinny 6'4" lead singer has Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder of the connective tissue that gives him abnormally long and spindly limbs. (The late Joey Ramone was another well-known frontman with Marfan syndrome.)"

Everyone knows skinny guys have big dicks.

I remember when Beth would work art book stores back in Columbus Ohio.

KNYFE HYTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 5:23 PM

went both nights - the music hall show proved much better (because it was way way louder)

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 5:44 PM

I'm so sad I missed the friday show. Weird Era has rocked my world. I've been listening to the deerhunter discography on repeat for the last week and a half.

Posted by xaq | November 10, 2008 5:56 PM

Without Colin Mee it's just Deerhunter Light.

Suggestion: can the girl

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 6:00 PM

The Bowery show was excellent. Made me wish I'd gone to MHOW as well. Bradford and co. have stepped their game way up since last I saw them.

Wish they'd played more from Weird Era though. Next time...

"Deerhunter posts always = Bradford needs a cheeseburger."

CHEEZBURGERS IZ FOR TEH KITTEHS!!!

Posted by kthxbai | November 10, 2008 6:26 PM

Cannot agree more than with the reviews above. Deerhunter have stepped their game up big time and I hope they continue to get more praise as their latest release is a band heading in the complete right direction. Was only at the Bowery show but that was one of the better shows I have seen. Perhpas opening for NIN has got Bradford and co. in order to really become a band that will have a meaningful career.

3. i got laid

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 7:57 PM

yeah, deerhunter's soundman cranked it up. any photos from bowery?

Posted by employee | November 10, 2008 8:18 PM

Yeah, Lockett should sing Agoraphobia.
He sounds great on the record.

How about some songs with 2 vocals?

There are so many bands with zero good singers. They should take advantage of the fact that they have 2 good ones!

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 8:49 PM

deerhunter=amazing
they were amazing at market hotel, they were amazing at mccarren and suprise-supriser they were fucking excellent at bowery.

Posted by Anonymous | November 10, 2008 11:37 PM

both shows were great & sort of different. at music hall they were more laid back & talkative and bowery was more serious with little banter. after bowery, bradford explained that they kept fans in mind & decided to played different sets for each show, which is really nice of them. they could have played all the same songs and both shows still would have been great, but it's very gracious when a band take their fans into account.

Posted by Anonymous | November 11, 2008 12:04 AM

Who else got the Sinbad/Rob Thomas reference?

Posted by Anonymous | November 11, 2008 9:47 AM

I was really impressed by the show at MWOWB. They had a big sound and the songs really came to life. One of the best shows I've seen this year and proof that Deerhunter is one of the most exciting bands out there.

Posted by BTW | November 11, 2008 10:31 AM

I went to Bowery and it was fucking great.

Posted by Aaron | November 11, 2008 6:35 PM

anon 12:49... if I wanted to read Right-wing propaganda, I'd move to Alabama, start fucking my sister, and hang out with people like you.

Posted by Anonymous | November 11, 2008 6:49 PM

4:22, deerhunter is fuckin' awesome and is only getting better but please never again say that they are taking animal collective or my morning jacket's place as north america's preeminent band. sure deerhunter is in my top 5 and microcastle has been my favorite album of the year, but it just makes you look ignorant.

Posted by Anonymous | November 11, 2008 7:53 PM

yeah, I didn't like the knock on animal collective. Deerhunter's very good but not one of my top favorites. I actually like Times New Viking and Vivian Girls better, their albums are my 1 and 2 this year. but that's just me.

and whoever said deerhunter dude has marfan's syndrome, thanks, those skinny comments were annoying me.
