Health tonight, Lovepump's Deradoorian, win tix, tour dates
Angel Deradoorian (Dirty Projectors) @ Bowery Ballroom (more)

They hadn't announced the openers last time I posted about tonight's Health show at Knitting Factory (11/7). They are: Videohippos and Angel Deradoorian from Dirty Projectors. I have a pair of tickets to giveaway. To win them, email BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM (subject: Health). Include your first and last name. A winner will be picked and cotacted ASAP.
Angel, who goes by her last name Deradoorian for her solo stuff, recently announced...
Hey I just signed on board to work with the label LovePump United! It's run by two great dudes Mookie and Jake. I will be releasing an ep with them soon. Date is not announced yet, but there will be one some day. Some other cool bands up on LovePump: Genghis Tron, Health, and Indian Jewelry. Sweeet. She also has a show scheduled at Zebulon on November 28th. Dirty Projectors have a show December 11th at Brooklyn Masonic Temple.
Health has been on the road with NIN, surely playing to many new people on stages bigger than they've ever stepped foot on before. It can't be easy, especially with critics like this one from Jacksonville, Florida...
"Health has a lot to learn and hopefully Nine Inch Nails, who were playing their instruments consistently, will show them the true way to success in alternative synthesized hard rock. Nine Inch Nails did not rely on the short samples recorded into floor based effect pedals like Health did, and played their instruments, as a rock band should. The refreshing performance by Nine Inch Nails should be the inspiration for a new rock generation that plays actual music, not just sound, and respects the old definitions of melody, harmony, rhythm and form."All Health dates below...

HEALTH killed their show w/ NIN in Greenville, SC. It was rad to hear them through the big stadium speakers, and the NIN tech people gave them a minimal stage show, namely a split screen set-up that allowed the audience to see all the movements they were making on stage. I last saw them in Providence, RI playing for about 30 people, so it was a big change. My review is much different than the one quoted above: http://biomusicosophy.blogspot.com/2008/11/post-show-healthnin.html.

i saw health open for NIN last night in atlantic city and they were great. i was very disappointed in the crowd, who booed on occasion. i love NIN and will continue to see them play because they really put on a great show, but their audience/fans are dickheads.

that Florida review is funny

that florida review is DEAD ON. it's obviously written by someone detached from the "coolness" of bands like Health. i think it's really neat to see an impartial, unbiased opinion of indie bands from someone who isn't attracted to the style more so than the music. kudos BV!

To each his own. There is room for noise bands who use samples and there is room for bands who know how to rock out on their instruments. Obviously Trent likes Health, or he wouldn't have asked them to tour with him.

that review's lame - HEALTH do play their own instruments! when they get down and screw with their pedal boards, they're not triggering samples - they're manipulating the effects on their instruments! there's no samples in HEALTH, whatsoever. dude is dead wrong.
H E A L T H !

I'm going to make the same basic comment over here that I made on the Florida review's site.
I think asking about HEALTH's melody, form, and whatnot is like looking at a Jackson Pollack painting and saying the guy is a poor artist because he didn't paint a portrait or landscape.

I'm pretty sure that Baltimore isn't in Maine.

HEALTH was amazing last night.
kinda disappointed by that 30second encore, but still it was alotta fun.

Jackson Pollock was a hack. Not because he didn't paint trees and landscapes. But because his work is an unsubtle shrieking mess. Influential? Enormously. Too bad mere influence is not the final measure of aesthetic worth.
Health = decent post-Liars noisey dance. They're fine. The Florida reviewer was clearly a Trent Fanboy with anuses for ears. "will show them the true way to success in alternative synthesized hard rock"?? Hah, Jesus! What a load!
SHOW THEM THA TRU WAY TRENT

i see a liars thing w/ health sure, but they seem to have more, compositionally at least, in common with the abstract shapes of stuff like black dice. but played with rock instruments.
actually, they just kick ass - comparisons unnecessary.

Go see Health Live. Saw the show on Saturday- rocked my socks off. The drummer is amazing.

lol i love when people think that because they dont like a band then they are just untalented assholes and anyone who likes them is just liking them cuz a blog told them to. this isn't mainstream music that people are hearing easily and everywhere so its just easy to know and like the tunes. I like health a lot. I like them more then most NIN stuff. music is art. it really doesnt matter if you dont like it or think it's easy to make. some people can connect to it and dig it, which means health is doing their job. Obviously you cant get everyone to like your music, but they connecting with more people regardless of those people's opinion. thats more then anybody posting here can say
