Jenny Lewis & Elvis Costello on Letterman (video)

David Acid Tongue

Jenny Lewis "with special guest Elvis Costello" (he sings the song on her album too) played Letterman last night (Nov 3). David introduced them while holding up the giant sheet of acid, but after they performed their song, Jenny was nowhere to be found and Elvis in turn became the next interviewed guest. They mostly discussed Elvis' new talk show. Elvis said 13 episodes are taped and ready to go (and implied there wouldn't be more than that if the show which debuts on the Sundance Channel on December 3rd is not successful). David seemed sincerely interested from the "you're doing what I do, but different" point of view. Johnathan Rice was also there playing guitar and singing backup. Video of the musical performance below...

I'm not sure if she could get any more mediocre or boring... probably though.

was that cameltoe I saw?

sounds like bad dolly parton.

Elvis Costello: More irrelevant every day.

Sexist but true:

If she were unattractive, easily 50% of people would care much less about her music.

Jenny Lewis is a bad-ass, hands down - see her live and you will be a convert! plus her new album is over the top.. check it

the new series is going to be awesome.

Calling her boring and mediocre had a lot to do with her new album. Snoooooozer.

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2008 3:12 PM

Deeply, insultingly fucking boring. She's already given up and gone the Emmylou Harris / Linda Ronstadt / Lyle Lovett route? You had to be at least 50 before that happened.

phenomenally boring

dudes, c'mon, have some self awareness: you like this woman because you think she's attractive

here's the sad part... she's not even all that hot, just another average girl with a microphone in her hand and some savvy marketing behind her schtick

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2008 4:41 PM

People like her because she was in Rilo Kiley who at one time had some credibility as an indie band.

Elvis Costello singing with her adds more credibility too.

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2008 4:45 PM

Her solo stuff is very weak.

Hey Jenny, just because you also have big cans, doesn't mean you need to sing like Dolly too.

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2008 4:52 PM

The dolly part I can get behind, but those are not big cans.

Bland song - too bad.

Decemberists played on Conan later - playing a "new" song that sounded a lot like Belle & Sebastian.

Posted by drewo | November 4, 2008 5:38 PM

rilo kiley never had any credibility at all, what are you talking about?

they've always been bland LA pop

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2008 5:46 PM

Jenny is the Dolly of our generation

I am Conor Oberst and I endorse this message

Rilo Kiley are terrible, her solo stuff is vastly superior

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2008 6:11 PM

Vastly superior to what? Self mutilation?

Jenny Lewis for Vice President!

Elvis Costello needs a cunt punt!

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2008 8:32 PM

^^^ I agree with 8:32, Elvis Costello bites the big one!

Posted by Anonymous | November 4, 2008 8:34 PM

Elvis Costello = genius
Jenny Lewis = lame half-jewish girl who's still discovering music and isn't quite sure 'what she is'

"Elvis Costello: More irrelevant every day."
A) I disagree.
B) "Less relevant" would have made you sound less retarded (or more "not retarded").

She's great as is her new album. "The New Messiah" track is mind-blowing. Her fan base is not geared to 12 year old retards, either. I respect Elvis more than I enjoy him- Jenny, I love.

Jonathan Wilson and Jonathan Rice being the huge talent on that stage!
