M83

After working on the first two videos for SATURDAYS=YOUTH with Matthew Frost (Graveyard Girl) and Eva Husson (Kim&Jessie), M83 is now extending an open call to fans to submit their best video interpretations of "We Own The Sky", their latest single from SATURDAYS=YOUTH.

The competition launched on Thursday, November 13th on Pitchfork. Anyone who wants to submit an entry has until January 20, 2009 to produce a video for "We Own the Sky" and upload it onto the Youtube contest page at http://www.youtube.com/group/m83

The winning entry will have its Pitchfork TV debut early next year!

The "We Own the Sky" EP, a new single from the album SATURDAYS = YOUTH, is set for release on CD/LP/Download early 2009 and will include the original track plus an edit, along with a remix of Maps, the previously unreleased "Je vous hais Petites Filles", and a remix of "Graveyard Girl" by ParkerLab.

anyone know what kind of software that computer is running? How much is actually being played live with M83? I've heard School of Seven Bells plays a lot of stuff on a backing track as well. Anyone who was there know?

the show was amazing. very impressed by school of seven bells.

Posted by fred | November 15, 2008 5:53 PM

I believing he's running Ableton Live in the arrangement view, and yes...the show was pretty fucking epic.

School of Seven Bells totally play over the, may I say so, SAME pre-recorded track. It's not really the same, but there's little variation, it's almost like it. Boring, a disappointment.

M83 was great! As you may know drums, synths and guitars are live, rest is tracking.

Anthony does some knobbing wizardry. The guitarist seem to play power chords, but I believe there's some guitar recording in a couple of tracks.

The songs don't sound exactly the same either. I believe they have a good balance of prerecorded/live music.

I didn't know it was possible for the crowd to clap off beat, but at certain times during m83's set, you did it!

Posted by theresa | November 15, 2008 10:22 PM

I know! It was pretty fucking ridiculous. I HAD TO KEEP THE BEAT FOR TEEN ANGST, come on. That's pretty simple. The dude like 5 feet away from me was creating his own subrhythms...it was TERRIBLE.

Does anyone have the set list? And what was the song they played for the encore? Was that Couleurs? Thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2008 11:48 PM

The only setlist was near the guitarist, and yes, the encore was Couleurs.

Posted by madmang | November 16, 2008 1:18 AM

Thanks, madmang, for the confirmation.

Also, I meant does anyone know what the set list was? Can anyone post it?

I can only remember these, sorry :(

Run Into Flowers
Car Chase Terror ~ A Guitar And A Heart
Kim & Jessie
Graveyard Girl
We Own The Sky
Teen Angst
Don't Save Us From The Flames
Skin Of The Night

Encore:

Couleurs

@ 5:34PM

The computer is mos def running Ableton. I think the computer just handles synths and other ambient sounds. I know that School Of Seven Bells only uses a computer for drum performance (since there are only 3 of them) that is triggered by Ben Curtis' feet, the rest is played by the band (2 guitars and 1 synth).

pretty sick show in all... although everyone was packed like sardines and some people were downright rude about it.

those fake glasses on morgan kibby are fucking RIDICULOUS. i am so fed up of seeing faux eyewear. like, get over yourself...she looks way prettier without the granny glasses, which are so obviously fake.
