if columbia's literature humanities seminars are indication, it's not worth paying even $1 to see the boys from vampire weekend discuss anything.

And, yeah, sure -- $30 to hear Patti Smith *talk* sounds like a great idea.
Pass.

Salman Rushdie maybe it were free, the rest; no thanks. I thought Vampire Weekend's 15 minutes were up!

I wouldn't pay (anything!) $30 to hear Patti Smith sing. She is as overated as it gets. A few decent albums 30 years ago does not make her worth seeing.

The Times Talks events (Tom Cruise and anything else in 2008) are separate from the Arts and Leisure Weekend which all take place Jan 8-11, 2009.

"Vampire Weekend, Patti Smith, Salman Rushdie, and Tom Cruise."
Never has one phrase been filled with so much irrelevant pompous turd.

sorry, but i had classes with some of the VW dudes. they have B.A.'s... ya dig? they got nothing to say beyond 'what's it like to be in a touring band?' and, 'how was growing up in new jersey?'
