Telepathe - 2008 Tour Dates, tonight w/ Violens, WIN TIX

They're not the most popular live band in NYC, but Telepathe do manage to land on a lot of good bills. One such good bill was one of the recent TV on the Radio shows at Masonic Temple. They also recently toured with Diplo, and they're opening one of the upcoming Vampire Weekend shows at Terminal 5. Tonight, November 20th, they play with Violens at Mercury Lounge. For that one I have two pairs of ticket to giveaway. Details on how to win and all Telepathe tour dates below...
To win tickets to tonight/Thursday night's show at Mercury Lounge, email BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM (subject: Telepathe) right now with your first and last name. Note that the show is 21+. Two winners will be contacted ASAP and placed on guestlist.
Telepathe - 2008 Tour Dates
Nov 20 - MERCURY LOUNGE NYC, New York
Nov 24 - Catch London and South East
Nov 25 - Club West Germany Berlin

Uhm...why do I get the sneaky feeling that this isn't exactly gonna be a positive comment thread?
p.s. I'm a self-confessed sucker for Bowie eye make-up.

oh god. this crap is still around?

I already forgot about this terrible band and the time I saw them open for TVOTR a month ago, but now you've reminded me how much I wanted to rip my ears off. Thanks, BV!

this is such crap. just press 'play' and watch them dance around making fools of themselves.. singing off key. just terrible.

i have to say i would turn lesbian for the girl on the left
she makes the sexiest boy ever
but seriously i can't take it anymore of seeing their live shows because their booked with artist whose live shows i die for
like are they fulfilling these guys dreams of a threesome or something?
or are they just the most exciting fun down to earth girls you could ever meet and have to have on your tour
... they don't seem like it
how do they do it?
magic potion?
maybe they're like a crazy muse or something
they do seem like they could be that sort, girls who inspire but own ideas aren't that inspiring
it's just the biggest wonder of '08

i'm convinced good bands (ezra and his fellow adp flunkies notwithstanding) put telepathe on their bills to make themselves look better in comparison. those off-key fucksticks nearly ruined the abe vigoda/no age show at south street this summer.
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 2:18 PM
ive seen them 3 or 4 times and didnt think much, though the girl on the right def exudes a strong sexual vibe, though I didnt realize the other girl was a girl until 2nd time I seen them? sort of like Boys Don't Cry with her...
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 2:21 PM
i got coked up at todd p's adp show last saturday.

i'm still so confused! whenever i see them they're just so awkard that it makes you uncomfortable to watch them. maybe is it some kind of post ironic kind of thing they're doing,"yeah we suck, but can you figure out why guys, and then the deeper social meaning behind it?" and all the good bands they play with are in on the joke. nah i don't think that post-irony can even stretch that far
oh my god i just don't get it

agreed. first and hopefully last time i will hear their music. AWFUL

!!!!!!!!!
what if they open for Animal Collective!
please animal collective if you are reading this and are thinking about putting them as your opening act
please don't. it will truly ruin what was to be an amazing night.
i will cry if that girl ever sings in my face again
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 2:45 PM
i will admit any footage i have seen of them performing live is bad and makes me not want to see them live. . . but their studio recordings are pretty amazing. . .
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 2:46 PM
I will admit when they do that "we can do the bang bang" song, sexual thoughts enter my mind in regards to the girl on the right.
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 2:53 PM
i just noticed, she's smoking hot!
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 2:54 PM
An open letter to Telepathe,
You suck and are rude and annoying not only as a band but as humans.
Sincerly,
Someone who had the supreme displeasure of having to work one of your shows.

one of my favorite bands
stop the hate guys
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 3:34 PM
i feel like i can't judge them based solely on the seaport show (which was terrible) because i later saw no age and abe vigoda and they were terrific live in different venues, so it may have just been the venue. maybe i can give them a second chance.

babes. whatev.
Posted by meee | November 20, 2008 3:38 PM
would
Posted by d | November 20, 2008 3:40 PM
their studio recordings are ace.
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 3:43 PM
those darlins & telepathe = worst bands of '08.
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 3:53 PM
i guess that's why everyone is talking about the live show
it's really bad
and it's not hate
it's the truth
seeing them was one of the most uncomfortable experiences in my life
man but congrats if you have some warped mind that you can enjoy the show
i wish i could cuz i can't seem to get away with them being at openers at the shows i go to

"seeing them was one of the most uncomfortable experiences in my life"
@Anon3:55 - Wow...then you've had a pretty easy going life.

I'm going to play devils advocate here...
I've seen them about 5 times this year. I like them on record a lot and while I'll admit that I've seen better live bands they:
a) have never been as bad in my experience as people make them out to be.
b) have improved a hundred fold.
2 questions:
are they any worse than, say crystal stilts, who also have an air of awkward underacheivment to their shows but never get the hate that telepathe do?
in reference to their personalities. do you expect a band that is this universally (and personally) derided & sexualised on here not to be a little stand offish.

They've gotten much better recently, were great in LA on the Diplo tour
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 6:56 PM
well their music fits a little better with diplo than say abe vigoda who were also (inexplicably) on that tour. so it would have been quite a feat to be more awkward than abe vigoda
Posted by Anonymous | November 20, 2008 10:15 PM
shut up all of you i fucking love telepathe.
Posted by anon | November 20, 2008 10:55 PM
They might not be a good live band - they sure need to work on it, they are kind of boring - BUT their music is rather good, I'd say.
I personally play them with frequency and I'll be buying their Dance Mother debut.
Posted by dee | November 20, 2008 11:53 PM
I'd spoonfeed them some blueberry yoghurt.
Posted by Nestor | November 21, 2008 12:57 AM
new album is REALLY FUCKING GOOD
Posted by anon | November 21, 2008 1:37 PM
I LOVE THESE LADIES
Posted by Anonymous | November 22, 2008 2:55 PM
you guys are crucial.
ive never seen telepathe live, but their records shred
Posted by Anonymous | November 22, 2008 6:43 PM
Seen them live twice about 6 months apart, I do think their show is improving but I would have to agree that they don't exactly come across as natural performers and especially that the vocals aren't the strongest. Not nearly as bad as people like to make out though. The album will be worth getting.

saw them at terminal 5 on thurs and they SUCKED so bad, not one person clapped the entire performance and they left the stage in awkward silence. how the hell do they get these gigs like Vampire Weekend & TVOTR?

"seeing them was one of the most uncomfortable experiences in my life"
@Anon3:55 - Wow...then you've had a pretty easy going life.
haha @ blackhat
i don't know but when i use uncomfortable i mean it in awkardness. it's right there with running to the other side of the bathroom to get tp and getting caught with my pants down.
and
the entire relationship with my first boyfriend.
the only experience topping is being infront of 3 thousand ppl making me sweat to a point i smelled like onions
but word after reading these comments it is kind of messed up that they're objectified so much as girls and that i did it too. very retarded of me, it's unfair to wonder how an artist got to where they are with not much talent to show for and use their sex cuz of it. they're just an awful band, and (ppl who book) the bands i like have awful taste
THE FAINT god jesus even my fave band from my cheesy hay days are in on it too?!

Ive never seen two girls make people so jealous and angry! Its not the girls, its the stupid fans of these quite frankly boring rock bands they open for sometimes. these fans dont know how to dance anyway. telepathe rules and yes it is an attitude thing. they can make whatever music they want and you cant. because you have no talent or imagination. keep on hating.
