the week in Dance w/ Showtrotta

Here are some highly recommended options for tonight, Saturday (11/1), along with a few things coming up over the next few days.

Tonight/Saturday the event I am most excited about is DJ Falcon at Le Poisson Rouge. As much as I love my Ed Bangers and other new, more crunching, thumping, stuff, my ears need a break after a while and I find myself listening more and more to classic French house. It doesn’t get much more classic than DJ Falcon, the man responsible for an excellent remix of fellow Frenchies Cassius’ “La Mouche” as well as (along with Thomas Bangalter) the tracks “Together” and “So Much Love to Give” just to name a few. I was fortunate enough to see DJ Falcon at Studio B last October and his set was a blur of irresistible, yet unexpected tracks (check out the “live mix 4” in his myspace player and you’ll hear what I mean) you had to dance to. Highly recommended.

Something classic (in a different way) is going down at Hammerstein Ballroom. Hercules and Love Affair perform live disco that is somehow both classic and modern at that same time. The monster bill at this Day of the Dead show is completed by headlining pop legends, the B-52’s as well as Special Disco Version (James Murphy and Pat Mahoney).

Advanced tickets available here.

Following the show Kim Ann Foxman and Andy Butler of H&LA will be deejaying their after party which is also the latest edition of Eamon Harkin and James F!@.$%^ Friedman‘s Primetime, downstairs at Santos. Afrika Bambaataa and DJ Jazzy Jay will be deejaying upstairs while this is going on and your ticket will get you into both parties:
