Dan Deacon

(Lucky members of) MTV staff headed to Baltimore over the weekend to watch Dan Deacon rehearse with his new ensemble - the ensemble that is debuting tonight/Thursday at Brooklyn Masonic Temple. You can watch footage and interviews at MTV's site. In it, Deacon talks about his not-wanting to be an electronic artist forever. More pictures, which were kindly provided to us by MTV, below...

I'm not kidding..he looks exactly like my down-syndrome uncle.

"I'm not kidding..he looks exactly like my down-syndrome uncle"

Your point being that you are a shallow asshole?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:18 PM

just remember : do not leave your things unattended!

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:21 PM

the three video segments give you a good idea of what this show is gonna sound like.....Deacon wants to be the next James Murphey or Sufjan Stevens apparently.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:22 PM

uhhh....the next sufjan stevens?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:23 PM

Damn, its been so long since we've seen a post about Dan Deacon at this site. Please don't ignore him anymore, he deserves MUCH more coverage here.

Seriously, though, I'm surprised that BV doesn't know about the local secret show that Deacon is playing at the end of January.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:31 PM

looks messy and fussy.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:34 PM

4:31 sounds like a douche

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:37 PM

Good loooord is that one hellava blue outfit!

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:39 PM

the people who post here are so lame for the most part. lol who cares if the blog posts about dan deacon whenever something comes up. He's the man and his shows are fun as hell. TOnight is gonna rock. i cant wait. that taste sounded so dope

Posted by $ean Money | December 11, 2008 4:42 PM

I suspect the anti-Deacon sentiments are mostly just one unhappy person. Best to ignore them.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:47 PM

4:47 is onto something. There is only ONE person in the entire readership of this site who doesn't like Deacon and is sick of reading about him on this site. Only ONE. Ok.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:51 PM

I'd hit it.

Posted by Regular reader | December 11, 2008 4:52 PM

awww, it sounds like 4:31/4:51 is in desperate need of a hug.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:56 PM

whether or not you previously liked dan deacon or not though - he's doing something different from what he was doing before.

A transition from a solo electronic set -> 15 person ensemble is pretty significant. May just be time to re-evaluate huh?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 4:56 PM

Anyone knoe when the D. Deacon remix of Heidi Montag's new single is debuting on MTV?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 5:04 PM

is this show sold out?

Posted by bj | December 11, 2008 5:07 PM

where are these kids parents? this is just bad. no band needs two xylophone players. period.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 5:14 PM

it doesn't matter if he wants to be an electronic artist forever or not, nobody is going to give a shit about him in 3 years regardless.

adding 14 members to the band won't make the songs any more interesting. sorry guys!

Posted by nick | December 11, 2008 5:17 PM

wow exciting

the orchestra looks really cool, wish i could see the show

Does anyone else realize Dan Deacon was born in 1981? How is he 27?

Posted by Dave Haney | December 11, 2008 5:22 PM

Dan Deacon was born in the year 2015, the child of Marty McFly, but was kidnapped by Biff Tannen in 2018 and transported back to an alternate 1985. Biff, having given Dan Deacon recordings of music from the future, enabled Dan Deacon to perform music way before his time, leading to misunderstanding and hatred on BV comment threads.

Posted by Doc Emmit Brown | December 11, 2008 5:30 PM

hey 5:14, go learn about minimalism.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 5:32 PM

yeah - that 2 xylophones thing was pretty ignorant. Apparently percussion is on it's way out!

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 5:39 PM

They need two players for each instrument in case one gets hurt playing Simon Says or needs a time out.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 5:41 PM

I have never heard a Dan Deacon song, but I just read this whole thread because I knew it would be entertaining...and I was right. Good stuff all around troops!

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 5:47 PM

i'm going to the show tonight. what can i expect?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 7:13 PM

Alot of american apparel and pabst?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 8:52 PM

So many haters here. dan deacon is good live, and going "orchestral" its gonna be soo much more entertaining. Stop taking shit so serious, its just a bunch of baltimore artists making music, why would this not be a great show...

Revenge of the nerds

"Seriously, though, I'm surprised that BV doesn't know about the local secret show that Deacon is playing at the end of January."

I assume you mean the Todd P NYC/Bmore battle of the bands thing, which I'm sure BV will post about sometime in the future. The unannounced Baltimore special guests aren't exactly hard to figure out, buddy. Congrats on cracking the case.

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 1:03 AM

amazing show last night from the dirty projectors and deacon. wow!

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 8:06 AM

yeah deacon was GREAT. much better than his solo stuff I'd say. But what was with the A/V problems and deacon cussing all night

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 8:35 AM

i'll give him credit for doing something different. maybe it'll sound good. i just don't care for just about anything i've heard by him so far.

and yes, i'm old :P

Posted by yoga | December 12, 2008 8:36 AM

"that show sucked."

yeah right. you probably weren't there.

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 8:52 AM

the show was incredible. I have seen most of his NYC area shows in the past two years and he has yet let down an audience, and every single show was different, not many bands artists can say that.

Dan was cussing (he called it "a fucking nightmare" at one point) and running around because I think he was under a lot of pressure and perhaps the show did not live up to his idea of what it should have sounded like, this might have been due to difficulty of setting up all those musicians with short time due to curfew. Regardless I think they sounded awesome and it was a great memorable performance.

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 9:16 AM

also, fyi Dan said he cant wait to get home and read the comments on BV, so here you go.

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 9:18 AM

show was so good! new deacon is awesome

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 9:26 AM

Lord- I am thankful I don't live in Brooklyn. I am also thankful I am not a band in Brooklyn. I don't know how so much good music comes out of such a small area with so many judgmental pricks.

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 9:30 AM

"I don't know how so much good music comes out of such a small area with so many judgmental pricks."

Maybe it's because of that very fact.

Posted by Anonymous | December 12, 2008 9:57 AM

back to the future inspired comments are gonna be big in 2009.

I Marty McFly'd this place way back in May 2008 though. Or was it really May 2080?

Posted by Marty McFly | December 12, 2008 11:46 AM

Ah, thanks for bringing us back to one of the best comment threads ever, Marty.
