Los Angeles, Calif., (December 10, 2008) - LA, Los Angeles Times Magazine today announced the selection of Nic Harcourt as Editor at Large, Music & Culture. Beginning February 8, 2009, in LA's January/February double Oscar issue, Harcourt will contribute a monthly column inspired by his love of music and the culture of Southern California.

Harcourt has been hailed as the most influential DJ in America and ultimate music tastemaker because of his uncanny ability to forecast trends and identify emerging talent. His innovative approach will now provide LA readers with unparalleled insight into the always evolving music and culture hemisphere through his monthly "Listen Up" columns, which will feature a hand-selected playlist, his picks for upcoming local concerts, shows and/or events and Q&As with emerging artists...

It was announced only a day or two earlier that the LA Times' parent company, Tribune Co, went bankrupt.

Adele was on Jimmy Kimmel (in LA) last night. Video below...

that is a god awful top 10 list.

he really likes boring music.

weird how he's gotten the reputation of being so "edgy"

The Raconteurs are the antithesis of boring. In my opinion, they put out the best rock album of 2008. Why are they not appearing on more top 10 lists for 2008? Otherwise, yes, the list is somewhat partial to "softer" music.

Regardless, this is a tragedy. "Morning Becomes Eclectic" was one of the best programs running.

emiliana torrini's new album is truly incredible. id actually put that a little higher than 10th.

he just likes bands with chicks in them

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 1:44 PM

thank god hes leaving kcrw. hes such a horrible dj.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 1:48 PM

What!!! no Kanye in the top 10?!

Posted by sam C | December 11, 2008 1:59 PM

Minus the Broken West, everything on that list can pretty much go away.

Ditto on happiness for Nic's departure. "Morning Becomes Eclectic" has been un-listenable for several years.. if not more.

Nic Harcourt is an amazing DJ and has given airtime to many bands that would go unheard if it hadn't been to him. He is a loyal lover of music and I for one will miss him and hope his successor is half as good at his job as Nic was.

Having listened to Harcourt for the past few years, I'm kind of surprised by his list. He is kind of edgy, but this list don't show it. I do love Adele though.

I haven't heard one of these albums. Hope it stays that way.

Dig Lazarus Dig should be on everyone's list for best of 2008. Nick Cave put out a masterpiece!

Posted by loop | December 12, 2008 8:34 AM

it should have been called the dandy warhols massacre.

wonder how much those placements cost...

terrible dj. the funny thing is he probably really does like the music he plays, when he pays any attention to it at all.

It is so sad to hear that but I wish he's doing fine. I love his music.

I love Adele! I can't wait for her new album this year. I think she is one of the most creative and fresh artists to emerge in the late 2000s.

I like Adeles own top 10 a lot better, I agree with almost all of those. Good to see she's a fan of Glasvegas just like me! Can't wait to listen to their new album..
