Aimee Mann's holiday show (Fred Armisen, Grant-Lee Phillips, Nellie Mckay, Morgan Murphy) @ Nokia Theatre - pics
photos by Chris La Putt

Based around songs from [Aimee Mann's] 2006 Christmas album, "One More Drifter in the Snow," the show also featured songs from Nellie McKay and Grant-Lee Phillips, comedy by [Fred Armisen] and Morgan Murphy, and a video spoof of "A Christmas Carol," featuring cameos by actors Michael Cera and John C. Reilly and Mann's husband, Michael Penn, in the role of Marley.More pictures from last night's holiday show at Nokia Theatre in NYC, below...The music ranged from traditional and "corny" (Mann's word) songs like "Sleigh Ride" to more somber fare, such as Mann's own "Calling on Mary." Phillips and McKay joined Mann on the former, and were frequent contributors throughout the two-hour show.
Phillips first came out dressed in a snowman costume, and he later disguised himself as Willie Nelson to do a creditable impersonation of the country legend on a version of Mann's 'Til Tuesday hit, "Voices Carry."..
[that is a review from an earlier show on the tour]

Everytime I see a picture of Nellie McKay's mouth, I still can't get over how incredible LARGE it is. I think you could fit an adult head in that gaping maw. And those foot-long teeth--they'd chomp down on the neck and bite the head clean off. Scary.

We took an evening trip to Tarrytown last night and wandered up Main St. to the Tarrytown Music Hall. A musty, comfy old theatre - the TMH is a nice antidote to the usual big city haunts. Aimee and her co. claimed they love to end their Xmas tours at Tarrytown - in part because they like the town's storybook-like name. It was a wonderful and wacky variety show, from Paul F. Tompkins hilarious pie and cake routine to Nellie's dreamtime excursions to Grant Lee Phillips as a Willie Nelson subtly covering Til Tuesday to a rapping Hanukkah Fairy to Aimee's beautifully sad and majestic songs--a nice holiday treat in the quiet Westchester hamlet.

I was at the Nokia performance on Thursday. So much fun. Also had tickets for the 12/19 Tarrytown show, but the weather was a big problem. I thought the gig would be canceled. Sorry I didn't go to that one. Damn snow.
This is going to be a annual tradition for me. Hilarious, great music. Loved this.
