I thought it was going on sale at noon, it was already sold out by 12:00.

hate.

Posted by anon | December 19, 2008 11:32 AM

got 4. this could be the greatest day of the year. first snow and beirut!

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:33 AM

" it was already sold out by 12:00. "

keep believing that

Posted by u tupid | December 19, 2008 11:35 AM

Keep believing that?? Then why can't I get tickets?

A hole

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:37 AM

no luck! since 12pm

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:38 AM

also no luck since 12pm here.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:39 AM

"Keep believing that?? Then why can't I get tickets?"

cause u too slow!

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:40 AM

Its not that hard to figure out people. If 2000 people want tickets for a show that only has 500 tickets on sale with a 4 ticket limit, all the tickets could easily go to the "first" 125 people even if all 2000 people try exactly at noon.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:42 AM

horse shit. ticketmaster is fukked. they will put these back on sale day of show for an extra $5.00. rot in hell ticketmaster, rot in hell

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:43 AM

Ok, this is ridiculous. I thought I had them and then when I clicked to confirm, it timed out. I am angry.

Posted by Kelly | December 19, 2008 11:53 AM

needs to be box office only for the 1st day of sales on shows like this. technology leaves too much room for inconsistency. a day like today would have really weeded out the fans - than you put the rest online the 2nd day. NYers who are willing to brave the lines and go to a box office deserve a shot. ah well.

keep checking in with TM, they'll eventually have some stragglers get released. enjoy the show those who got tix

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:56 AM

what's mhow's capacity? 500? i'd think only 300 of those went up for general sale this morning, at most.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 11:59 AM

Anon 11:56 so those of us with day jobs and couldn't get to a physical box office are less of a fan?

Posted by mp77 | December 19, 2008 12:00 PM

ridiculous.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:02 PM

Is Zach Condon some kind of weird religious nut like Sufjan Stevens?

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:05 PM

word, mp77. word.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:08 PM

um we all knew this would sell out fast got o be on it at 11:59

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:11 PM

he'll probably add one more.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:13 PM

"Anon 11:56 so those of us with day jobs and couldn't get to a physical box office are less of a fan?

Posted by mp77 | December 19, 2008 12:00 PM"

Not at all mp77. I have a day job - this isn't about that. It's about the difference between standing in a line and waiting one's turn, and how simple and reliably fair that is - and being thrown into the giant hot mess that is an in-demand ticketmaster sale. I like technology, but for high-demand shows like this, it remains an inefficient and unfair way of selling tickets.

Anyone who's been doing this for years can tell you that there are all sorts of glitches that happen that lock people out. It's still luck of the draw, I understand, but it's a crappy way of doing it.

Let's not fall into a battle over who's more of a fan and who's what demographic and all that other fake crap. This is about one thing and one thing only - EFFICIENT AND FAIR TICKET DISTRIBUTION. I think any honest, intelligent person could admit that ticketmaster online sales aren't always very reliable.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:22 PM

anyone have luck in the past 30 minutes?

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:28 PM

I've been trying online, with no luck.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:30 PM

can't wait to see them on craigslist for 100 dollars a piece.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:33 PM

bullshit.

Posted by my hips | December 19, 2008 12:35 PM

i bought balkan beat box tickets instead.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:38 PM

this is ridiculous.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 12:42 PM

anyone have any luck lately / willing to sell tickets? I'll double the price?

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 1:15 PM

Vassar College show 1/30

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 1:15 PM

REFORM! REFORM! WE NEED CONCERT TICKET REFORM!

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 1:28 PM

i get tickets for everythinggggggggg ever, seriously. so you can email me and we'll talk about it. stephenclix@gmail.com

Posted by stephenkv. | December 19, 2008 2:13 PM

Anon 12:22 - I respectively disagree. I don't see how being in line is more fair. At that point you end up clearly catering to a smaller percentage of the population, that's fair?

Ticketmaster isn't perfect but I'm willing to accept it's the best solution we have. Sure, I get locked out of shows every so often within a minute or two of onsale but usually things go off without a hitch. I'd much rather take my chances that I can login to my account within 1:30 then trying to figure out how to get to a box office during the day.

Posted by mp77 | December 19, 2008 2:48 PM

really, this is so stupid ... they were sold out before they went on sale. thanks ticketmaster.
the little shits selling beirut tix on craigslist for quadruple the price can go suck a dick.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 3:31 PM

mp77 - it appears we do just have different opinions. you make a valid point - though i'd have to say i'd rather figure out a way to get to the box office during work then deal with ticketmaster online.. hence the hybrid solution of doing both - not selling all tickets at the box office the 1st day, but half - and then putting the other half available online the next day. just a thought.

anyhow, if you got tix i wish you the best and hope you enjoy the show.

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 5:03 PM

here's the thing: in the end, the venue/promoters don't care as long as they sell the tickets. if they start staggering ticket sales, it's *possible* that a show won't completely sell out and, in turn, someone's going to wind up losing money.

i hate this system just as much as the next person. so much that i didn't get a ticket this morning, missing it probably by a few seconds. the thing is, they got their tickets sold and the venue must be happy about it.

if the artist feels otherwise, they could just play a venue that would give them greater control over ticket distribution. beirut's probably stuck with this, probably doesn't care a whole lot, and still gets a sold out concert. plus the free publicity that comes with "oh my god, you guys sold out mhow in less than a minute!"

Posted by Anonymous | December 19, 2008 5:14 PM

Anon 5:03 - thanks in engaging in some rational conversation on the topic even if we don't come to an agreement. It's a nice change of pace for BV posts and I didn't even have to break my Macbook Air.

Posted by mp77 | December 19, 2008 6:39 PM

@5:14- but if Beirut has sold out at MHOW and other venues before (the memory of my trying to get a ticket for last May's concert is still fresh on my mind), then wouldn't it be fairly obvious that even if they did stagger sales, they wouldn't lose money? I know it's not like you can do anything about it, but it's just a thought.
