i still don't understand the whole argument that people with crossed arms aren't enjoying the music. you expect people to be dancing and jumping around at bon iver or jose gonzalez?

No, but I try to avoid crossing my arms unless I am resisting something. Because that's what it conveys. Also, fair or not, it's like the quintessential expression of dull/insecure indieness.

Sometimes crossing your arms is just a comfortable position to stand in when you're not moving around very much. Are we supposed to stand with our arms at our sides the whole time? It doesn't mean anything. It just means you're listening and thinking about the music you're watching, and not particularly thinking about your arms.

Look, it's not always easy to know what to do with one's arms. But I am just telling you that in terms of body language, crossing them is a defensive posture. It might not be what you intend, but that's how it often comes across. I would hate to play to a room of motionless arm-folders. I usually hook my thumbs into my pockets myself.
