M83 @ Bowery Ballroom (more by Bao Nguyen)
M83

Anthony Gonzalez of M83's Top 10 of 2008:

1. Chairlift, Does You Inspire You (Kanine Records)
2. MGMT, Oracular Spectacular (Columbia)
3. Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes (Sub Pop)
4. Vampire Weekend, Vampire Weekend (XL Records)
5. Hercules and Love Affair, self-titled (DFA Records)

Wait. Gonzalez didn't name his own album on his top 10 list? Classy.

That James Blunt is wack. Maybe he is just being sarcastic.

Also how is a French dude named Anthony Gonzalez? I never figured that one out.

I think Mr. Gonzalez did knock out job. Yes, that is classy to not list your own work; perhaps it separates the ever evolving artist from the self loafing, narcissistic artist.

In any event, Cut Copy, MGMT, Chairlift! All great. He made liking MGMT nothing to be ashamed about again, hey just because they are played out doesn't mean they're not amazing.

As for the name; there is a great invention called airplanes! They allow people to fly through the dreamy sky and fuck in other countries. We can credit diversity to airplanes and ignorance to....

Actually, I meant to ask is Gonzalez an ethnic Frenchmen or is he of some other background?

Re: the name Anthony Gonzales.

I believe he is of Portuguese descent. The Portuguese make up one of the largest immigrant groups in France.

There used to be a very joke "How do you demolish Chatalet Les Halles? With a Portugese and a Cop" (A Portuguese to do the demolition work/dirty work and a policeman to keep away the masses protesting the demolition of the very popular market.)

Ah, that's why there are so many great French comedians out there! Wait...

Best album of the year is Oasis' Dig Out Your Soul. Checkout the songs Falling Down, The Turning and Waiting For The Rapture.

what's wrong with chairlift at 1? I thought it was an awesome album.

Posted by Anonymous | December 8, 2008 9:21 PM

i dig the songs on the chairlift album. however i think the production was a bit lacking. live they were awesome and so cool to watch but some of the songs on the album sounded very unorganic (not in a good way...like tons of midi synths and stuff). I wish they made a more organic sounding album. granted this is just my opinion. who cares.

Posted by Anonymous | December 8, 2008 9:28 PM

Why would James Blunt be a joke? M83 makes some pretty cheesy sentimental music in its own right...

Posted by Anonymous | December 8, 2008 9:44 PM

Jose Gonzalez = Swedish?

thats a damn solid list

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | December 8, 2008 9:58 PM

that list makes me puke... MGMT, really? Vampire Weekend, really? Hercules & LA, really?!

free kitten and sun kil moon are alright though, i'll give him that.

right on. and it is my opinion that this top ten list sucks testicles.

This new date is tempting... Still wishing I had some extra money.

Ok, I like the Chairlift album and think of it as a Top 10 contender, but some of the lyrics (Planet Health...come on!) should prohibit it from being #1 on ANY list.

Btw, I saw Chairlift play last week in Philly and was terribly disappointed. Maybe it was that the sound was awful, but their set was uninspiring. I was really looking forward to seeing them.

Dig Out Your Soullllllll....Cos here we goooooo!

That new Oasis song 'Falling Down' is absolutely blinding. Thanks for the tip.

When does the new Kasabian album drop? Their new single Fast Fuse is probably going to be a massive hit state side in 2009.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Baby I'm a Fast Fuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Einstein...

Posted by Anonymous | December 9, 2008 9:03 AM

Why do people even listen to this band?

They are god-awful... Especially live.

I had the misfortune of being dragged to one of their shows, easily top 3 worst shows of my life, that's saying a lot, as I've seen Cold War Kids live... *shudders*

i think it's safe to say indie/underground/allegedly-non-mainstream music has never been in such a sorry state as it is today.

Some time ago, I needed to buy a good house for my business but I did not have enough cash and could not order something. Thank God my sister adviced to try to get the home loans at banks. So, I acted that and was happy with my college loan.
