NY Cares

Like Conrad Keely, Marnie Stern played the NY Cares benefit at Knitting Factory on December 8th. Like Crystal Stilts, Marnie Stern is playing Knitting Factory again this Saturday. And like Crystal Stilts, but unlike the Dodos, Marnie Stern made Pitchfork's Top 50 Albums of 2008 (26-50). A few more NY Cares pics below...

so I guess that means Vivian Girls will be in the top 25

and The Walkmen, TVOTR, Deerhunter, Fleet Foxes, Nick Cave, Hercules & Love Affair, MGMT, Vampire Weekend and Fucked Up.

as well as No Age, Cut Copy, Lil' Wayne, Portishead, maybe Fuck Buttons?, Titus Andronicus?

My bets are on Deerhunter or TVOTR for Album of the Year.

Nick Cave was in the bottom 50, by the way.

deerhunter have that #1 locked up. they will not oick TV on the Radio simply becuase Rolling Stone had them as their #1

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 10:05 AM

despite what all the haters think, Deerhunter DESERVE that #1.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 10:10 AM

No way to MGMT making it, thankfully, though why is Frightened Rabbit in and Dodos not?? Surely that record filled the honourable mention remit. Plus it's boring! 'Devotion' should've been higher...

Deerhunter do deserve it.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 10:12 AM

and for anyone who didn't read P4K's little disclaimer at the beginning, Bon Iver and Robyn are not eligible in 2008

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 10:17 AM

Frightened Rabbit at 33 and Department of Eagles not in the top 50? For reals? And who the fuck is Wale? P4k = dick

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 10:19 AM

My bet is that they'll give it to Deerhunter but might just piss everyone off and put Vampire Weekend at #1

Posted by anonymous2 | December 18, 2008 10:34 AM

deerhunter isnt good though :(

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 10:56 AM

that host comedian guy from the NY Cares benefit SUCKED

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 11:01 AM

I heard Black KIds is number one.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 11:05 AM

"deerhunter isnt good though :("

Obviously you've never listened to them or seen them live.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 11:08 AM

that may be the case 11:08, but i think that person is just selling themselves short and hasn't given Microcastle a chance. their loss!

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 11:20 AM

I would be shocked if Fleet Foxes is not #1. But TVOR, Deerhunter, No Age, Vampire Weekend, and Portishead will all be top ten.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 11:24 AM

of course Fleet Foxes won't be #1, it's Pitchfork! That would be too predictable for them.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 11:26 AM

If you look back at the past few years Pitchfork is always pretty predictable...Last year Panda Bear, 2005 Sufjan, 2004 Arcade Fire, the only real shocked was in 2006 when they gave it to The Knife since they gave like 10 albums higher ratings that year.

who cares what "p4k" thinks. give it to britney spears.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 12:56 PM

i really dug frightened rabbit. it's subtley brilliant. their sound is so dramatic.

Posted by dan | December 18, 2008 1:04 PM

i disagree

Posted by anonymous | December 18, 2008 1:19 PM

Frighten Rabbit is boring, and not only is it criminal it was placed and Dodos weren't, but Marnie, Ponytail, Crystal Stitls, Beach House and Times New Viking all released vastly superior records. At the very least more interesting and innovative albums. Ditto for the Bug actually.

Hercules will also make the top ten, as will M83. I'm pretty sure we know the top ten at least.

The Very Best was a great mixtape, but how was it more accessible or better distrubted than Top Ranking? Is it because Santogold is clearly getting a surprise appearance in the top 25?

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 1:56 PM

I think everyone is neglecting Pitchfork's love for Air France. Anyone want to put money down that their No Way Down/On Trade Winds album gets a top 10 placing???

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 1:59 PM

deerhunter doesn't deserve shit.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 2:08 PM

Air France possibly, but they don't love to give EPs placing, and only one of those was an '08 release. But it has a pretty good shot at the top 25. If not, what Swedish electo is there to fill the void??

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 2:18 PM

Are Spiritualized going to get the placing they deserve? Are they? Are they?! Or will they be overlooked entirely? I need to know!

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 2:20 PM

Deerhunter clearly deserve much better than shit, so, yes, they don't deserve shit.

You're all forgetting Cut Copy. I bet that places top 5. Any chance of Crystal Antlers EP making the cut? And making it three out of three Crystal bands...
