Glad I dumped mine on Craigs List a few months back. The glory days with this band are long gone...

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2008 12:09 PM

that was fast, now singles are in the 300s and pairs are as well. looks like a packed house minus the 400s, which i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy!

"Glad I dumped mine on Craigs List a few months back. The glory days with this band are long gone..."

Please direct me on which bands I should be listening to considering MMJ is weak sauce these days.... preferably a band that rocks as loud and puts out consistently good albums as they do (granted I take you think they fell off after Tennesee Fire).

"Glad I dumped mine on Craigs List a few months back. The glory days with this band are long gone..."

The most ignorant statement made on this website. That's saying a lot. I hope you're Keith Richards or fuckin....somebody....but even if you wer, you'd be making the most ignorant statement this site's seen. My Morning Jacket are the best live act in the world right now. No questions asked. You cockgobbler.

Posted by WHOTHEFUCKAREYOU? | December 22, 2008 12:56 PM

guarantee there will be better seats released the day before or day of - they just have the 300's up now -

and yea the first commenter is just a hater - these guys are just finally coming into their own - on their own terms - they have slowly been building amazing live shows for years now and finally at the MSG level - sure this will be the first in a long line of shows for them at the garden -

that being said, i am equally excited for jim james to get back to the project with m.ward and conor.

I was a fan of MMJ up until this latest album. While it is nice to see bands "grow" over time, this latest album was complete garbage and it's a real shame.

Posted by CN | December 22, 2008 1:12 PM

to be a fan and then call this 'garbage' is just a bit dramatic and over the top - settle er down there hater

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2008 1:14 PM

yeah... those guys above are nuts.

The MMJ MSG show will, hands down, be the show of the year. Those who don't go are just plain stupid.

Just because they are playing bigger venues doesn't mean they aren't as good as they once were. In fact, they're better!

And NYC is really the only place where they are playing venues that size. Most of the other places they've played on the last tour held like 2000 - 3000 people. Red Rocks was bigger, but they also shared that bill with the Black Keys.

MMJ > Haters

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2008 1:22 PM

when all is said and done, 'evil urges' will reveal itself to be perhaps the most amazing record in their catalog ... combined with the live show, you've got the best band in the world right now ... haters stay home, go whack off to dan deacon and his band of masturbatory billyburg teenagers ....

I think it isn't sold out so MSG keeps "releasing" more... Section 346 isn't very good and I'm not sure why they are just now releasing it. Maybe they were saving it for the VIPs that were part of MMJ's entourage.

I love that they want the show to be a "classy" affair and get everyone to dress up all fancy. That will be cool, if people do it.

It will be a solid show no doubt.

"I love that they want the show to be a "classy" affair and get everyone to dress up all fancy"

Where did you see this?

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2008 1:35 PM

there's a message from Jim James on their website asking all attendees to "dress to the nines". I'd post a link here, but their website isn't playing nice with me right now.

Posted by wembley | December 22, 2008 1:37 PM

To all my friends I made on my above post, I was referring to the days when they played the Bowery, Irving, etc. I still think they are an amazing band, but the new record is weak, and quite frankly, the Garden is an awful venue to see a gig, unless you are on the floor or first level of seats.

"I still think they are an amazing band, but the new record is weak" ....

'Evil Urges,' 'Touch Me Part 1' and 'Highly Suspicious' open the record with dirty, subversive, electrofunk ... the guitar solo on 'Highly Suspicious' rocks harder than anything else recorded this year. They deliver classic American arena rock with 'I'm Amazed' and 'Aluminum Park' ... the country is well represented, too ... a well-rounded, diverse record, anything but weak, better than just about anything else put out by a major recording artist this year.

I'm sorry, but I am sick of people (including pitchfork) dissing this awesome record ... listen more carefully, see it within the big picture of where mmj has been and where they're heading ...

Posted by EliDManheim | December 22, 2008 2:30 PM

i sold my tickets as well on craig's

mmj's last album is solid and they play an amazing live set. seen them twice. i just think the garden is a tad too big for them ..

but 50 bucks on nye? cant go wrong ..

Posted by eric | December 22, 2008 2:33 PM

agreed: the new record blows. highly suspicious is one of the worse songs i've ever heard. i really wanted to like the record, but that's just not possible. granted, i'm amazed is a spectacular song, but it just doesn't make up for the rest of the meh.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2008 2:36 PM

your face doesn't make up for the rest of the meh!

I hope someone kicks you in the teeth one day for saying the word "meh". Douchebag!

Posted by wembley | December 22, 2008 2:56 PM

Great lists. Have fun guys,

Posted by Tanzanite | December 22, 2008 3:28 PM

i so wish that DVD cover had a broken macbook air on it with some Kanye glasses beside it.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2008 7:24 PM

I want to go to the New Year's Eve show but every year I poop my panties when the clock hits 12 so this year I'm staying in my house with my mommy. It's safer here.

Posted by Anonymous | December 22, 2008 8:25 PM

Evil Urges blows because the lyrics suck and most of it's simple and repetitive.
Evil Urges - gets a pass, one of few decent tunes on the album, but the falsetto is cheeze.
Touch me 1 - second verse is laughable.
Highly Suspicious - fun once or twice. Otherwise, it's no peanut butter pudding surprise, it's shit.
Im amazed- im not. Repetitive and simple, almost saved by outro though.
Sec walkin - boring and stupid, and the chorus sounds too much like "viva las vegas."
Librarian - cliché. A video for this would be like "hot for teacher" on MTVpansy. Fuck books.
Two halves - so trite and lame it's embarrasing.
Aluminum Park - fine, but sounds like a Damn Yankees song.
Smokin From Shootin- good, but would be a b side on their other albums.
Touch2 - solid
Touch 2

"My Morning Jacket are the best live act in the world right now. No questions asked"

I have some questions...

Posted by Zatzbatz | December 23, 2008 10:54 AM

MMJ are def. a very good live act, and I'm a big fan, but the recent show at RCHM was a snore, at the least the first part of it. The show weighed too much on the new material, which had only been out for a few days at that point, so really how many people were there to hear the new material? I'm guessing not as many as to hear the older material. The new material is maybe too much of a departure from the last two releases. Yes, I know a band has to grow. Understandable. I don't know. It's hard to love the new stuff, since I'm so in love with 'It Still Moves'. Again, a very good band, but I'm not hot too see them right away, after the Radio City show. They seem better in a smaller room as well.

Posted by Anonymous | December 24, 2008 5:14 PM

Hey anonymous, have you ever seen a band on tour before? 90% of the time if they have a new album out, they are going to play a lot of new material.

Posted by Clint | December 30, 2008 2:53 PM

Any ideas on special guests/festivities planned for the MSG show?

Posted by Anonymous | December 30, 2008 3:27 PM

The Garden is gonna ROCK tomorrow night! Put on your seatbelts INDIEFAGS!

haters be damned, MMJ killed it tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2009 3:21 AM

whenever somebody uses the phrase "killed it" on this blog, you can rest assured that the band did not, in fact, "kill it."

Posted by The Fatman | January 1, 2009 3:53 AM

Oh no no no, they killed it. A lot.

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2009 3:58 AM

blew my brains out

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2009 2:27 PM

it's true. It'll take a while to put MSG back together... MMJ blew that shit up!

MMJ last night was the best show in NYC this year and it's not even close. The funk covers were so much fun as were all the Evil Urges tracks. Oh, and Nicole Atkins ain't too shabby either. Happy New Year you guys!!!!

Was it better than Radio City Show ?

Was it better than Radio City Show ?

I thought it was. Maybe the people were just feeling more festive because of the holidays, or it could just be my perception because I was on the floor for this one.

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2009 4:22 PM

"Was it better than Radio City Show ?"

yes, much better. check out the setlist posted above

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2009 4:23 PM

oh way better tahn radio city - the covers are what it's all about - plus - the set was more spread out and not quite as evil urges heavy.

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2009 4:40 PM

guys, i kinda thought it wasn't that great. i fell asleep during it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2009 6:39 PM

To me, the NYE show was the most fun a person could have in this world! The extended Dondante jams were out of control, great covers, everyone looked awesome! The second story stage bar/lounge was a wicked touch. MMJ pulls out all the stops, thanks so much to those Kentucky fellers...time of my life!

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2009 9:09 AM

Excellent show - a ton of energy and the covers were amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2009 10:10 AM

Didn't go to Radio City but saw them twice this year and was a great show. Nice covers and then these four songs which were phenomenal

Dondante
Smoking from Shootin->
Touch Me Part 2->
Run Thru

Posted by Anonymous | January 2, 2009 11:40 AM

Great show all round. Dondante rocked!
