hugs @ MSG in NYC - Dec 16, 2008
Neil Young

[Wilco] were no match for Mr. Young and crew: Mr. Keith, the bassist Rick Rosas, the keyboardist-guitarist Anthony Crawford and especially the drummer Chad Cromwell, whose time feel suggested the perfect blend of slouch and surge. Mr. Crawford sang background vocals with Pegi Young, Mr. Young's wife, sounding strong on standards like "Cinnamon Girl" and fine on chugging new fare like "When Worlds Collide."
[NY Times @ night one]
Neil Young, Wilco and Everest played their second of two shows in a row at MSG in NYC last night (12/16). Neil's setlist on night two was almost the same, if not exactly the same, as it was the night earlier.

Wilco (including Jeff Tweedy), Jeff Tweedy's son and Everest joined Neil at the end of the pre-encore set to help sing the chorus of Rockin in the Free World. The tour ended with hugs all around (see above). Some more pictures (kindly submitted by Paul Searing), and the setlist, below...

neil was wearing the same outfit two nights in a row? that's so punk.

Posted by Dooder City | December 17, 2008 6:13 PM

He played pretty much the same setlist both nights; why not wear the same outfit too?

Posted by Qbertplaya | December 17, 2008 6:16 PM

did you run out of color film? looks like a lot of alcoholics at the show.

Posted by mr. pete | December 17, 2008 6:19 PM

I agree with 5:21. The show was fantastic. I was hoping Neil would come out and play Spiders with Wilco. No matter, it was great. And he blew it all out on the final encore.

"chugging"? mmmmm, no.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 11:05 PM

Actually, Neil wore that same exact outfit Saturday night in Worcester too.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 11:54 PM

The show was mind blowing. Cowgirl was unreal and then A Day in the Life?! Whoa.

I gotta see Neil again one of these days. I saw him solo only once in the 70s at the height of his heroin addiction and he sucked. I KNOW he doesn't suck so I really need to see him again.

Posted by Deb | December 18, 2008 8:22 AM

also, Norah Jones, Sasha Dobson, and Cat Popper sang harmonies on "Jesus etc"

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 10:43 AM

was Neil really on heroin? i know some of his crew was, and that coke booger lodged in his nose was captured on _The Last Waltz_, but never heard he did heroin.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 10:48 AM

He didnt.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 11:06 AM

Posted by taint | December 18, 2008 11:13 AM
