DOWNLOAD: Of Montreal - ID Engager (Mad Decent Remix) (MP3)

of Montreal

Though the stage show wasn't AS elaborate as it was at the much bigger Roseland Ballroom (no horse, coffin full of shaving cream or gallows), Of Montreal still did it up at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn last night (12/16). Their over-2 hour set included most of the songs from their last two albums, a ton of costume changes, and plenty of characters on stage. The packed and engergetic show was over around 1:25 AM.

Catch DJ Kevin Barnes, and friends, and karaoke, tonight (Wednesday, December 17th) at The Bell House. More pictures from Music Hall below...

10:23 - It's real...and it's spectacular.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 10:28 AM

are they on american apparel's payroll or do they do it for free?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 10:31 AM

To the bosomy, semi-attractive instrumentalist with the cute mole on her clevage:

Je le frapperais.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 10:32 AM

horrible sound in the first half or so. and the constant idiocy on stage really got in the way. gee, i even used to like this band.

and, yeah, they should've just played at american apparel two doors down.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 10:38 AM

"10:23 - It's real...and it's spectacular."

Ha haa, right on. Very impressive piece.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 10:45 AM

Oh please. They write Great songs and like to have fun on stage and inspire fun in the hearts of those watching. It's better than four guys in jeans playing guitars and looking upset all night. At least they have IMAGINATION and CREATIVITY, know what I mean? I for one prefer a little pomp and ridiculousness in my music.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 10:51 AM

the music has imagination and creativity; the nonsense on stage is just barnes acting out his frustrated bowie ambitions.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 11:04 AM

such haters around here. I am a huge fan of The Zombies and that kind of inventive piano based melancholy pop (see: Odessey and Oracle). there seems to be a serious lack of that kind of music kicking around these days which I think is a fucking shame and a half. Hissing Fauna was a revelation and a huge turning point for Kevin Barnes as he was able to tap into that 60's psych/pop sound while simultaneously creating his own individualized sound.

Granted...Of Montreal is not nearly as restrained as The Zombies were/are especially in a live atmosphere but I think it adds to their charm (except I think they should kick the chick piano/synth player out of the band she = lame/boring).

Posted by jb | December 17, 2008 11:15 AM

I hope he keeps acting out those ambitions. that show was seriously awesome, makes me sad I missed the show with Love is All

setlist at http://chocolatebobka.blogspot.com/2008/12/we-saw-of-montreal-at-mhow.html in photo. think it might be incomplete. the encore was gronlandic edit and tom petty's american girl. great show.

Posted by mcg | December 17, 2008 11:47 AM

looks fun. I guess.

Posted by baby kid C-Man | December 17, 2008 12:10 PM

Quite possibly the lamest and most forced live act I've ever seen (and please, spare me the "hater" bullshit). To this day I have no idea how anyone could find any redeeming value in this "band" whatsoeveer.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 12:33 PM

awesome show. so much fun.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 12:37 PM

If you think anything about of montreal is forced you clearly have no idea about this band.

It was a great show, as usual.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 12:46 PM

these guys are the korn of the indie world

Posted by charlie | December 17, 2008 1:05 PM

Great show. Not as good as Roseland but phenomenal nonetheless. The sound in the back of the room was actually way better than anywhere in the front half of the space. I did both. I'm not sure how anyone can legitimately have a problem with their live act. What exactly are you looking for from a band? A total feast of the senses. I will say, the last two albums, standing on their own, would win + lose probably an equal # of fans. Not a huge fan of the "motherfucking headliner bitch you don't even know it" stuff, but even if the lyrics have gotten emptier, the music is still adventurous and unpredictable, and the band is TIGHT. I was somewhat suprised that the Georgie Fruit thing still seems to be ongoing, as I heard in a radio interview these guys did a few weeks ago that Kevin was over that whole thing. Highlight of the show for me was Eros' Entropic Tundra. Anyone going to Bell House tonight?

Meilleur. Commentaire. Jamais!

Mais, "Je LA frapperais."

Posted by Carl | December 17, 2008 1:24 PM

Who's going to sing karaoke with them at the Bell House tonight? You think they'll doing something special?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 1:32 PM

Ill be there, I hear kevin usually plays of montreal songs and does some covers.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 2:42 PM

Damn, they did "American Girl" from Tom Petty last night. There's an mp3 on You Aint No Picasso already, but nothing about that in the write-up here. Did you guys leave early or something?

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 4:19 PM

Empty music, really? I'd ask you to be more specific but for some reason I doubt your ability to say anything intelligent in that respect. Maybe you could post some of your own tunes and help us understand the fundemental compoments of musical composition as they ought to be implored.

Posted by jackson | December 17, 2008 4:44 PM

it wasn't the first time they played "american girl" on this tour. not very newsworthy, to be honest.

Posted by Anonymous | December 17, 2008 10:28 PM

I'm not sure what you think constitutes a band if it isn't releasing successful albums and playing shows for their fans...

This "band" has written and performed countless songs, all of which feature not only musical talent, but a lot of imagination that set them apart from all the other music out there right now. Anyway, if given the chance, I'm pretty sure most of us would love to have as much fun on a stage as kevin barnes does. I think you're just pissed that no one wants to paint YOUR naked body bright red.

Posted by Anonymous | December 18, 2008 2:12 PM

I think we can all agree that the bottom line is that Jon Brion loves them. Everyone here who questions the musical merrit of this band should probably come forth about their own musical credentials and understanding of sophisticated harmony.
