They don't make em like they used to.

they signed with management that's tied to Radiohead's management company. looks like they've gone from obscure internet band from san diego to the bigtime kids. ATP Festival? wow. that was fast.....oh, yea...they have big connections now.

too bad their new band name sucks big fat 'industry' balls...

I hate the new name but love the old songs. If they had major management, then why the fuck are they still playing the merc and union pool???

So basically hand-pick any generic indie band and give them upscale management and lots of cash and they're suddenly thrust in our faces?

Somehow I don't think that shit works these days. These bands might get a few new quick fans, but if they're generating reprocessed crap, they'll be yesterday's news very fast... in part because there are another 346234534523 bands that could be given the same treatment.

Also, like someone else said -- big management and the best they can do is headline Union Pool?

"Also, like someone else said -- big management and the best they can do is headline Union Pool?"

WTF are you talking about? What does management have to do with what venue you play? If they think they can sell out Bowery Ballroom, they'll play Bowery Ballroom. They're just not there yet.

It's simple, 10:37, if the can only headline tiny venues, they're not ready to waste the dollars of major management, but a major management company can live with that decision. That's "WTF" I'm talking about. Idiot.

(10:43)

you have no idea what you're talking about...or have a clue. it's simple. theyre a 'buzz' band that a major management company took on. period. they took them off the market from other managers - whether a big band or small band, it doesnt matter. what matters is that they have them and they see the potential for the future - in making money and throwing them on bigger tours. who cares that theyre playing Union Pool. thats not the point. it's a slow build...development. period.

the muslims, soft pack, whatever - are a flash in the pan. this years - next years Black Kids. they'll play a ton of shows at SXSW and be the press darlings. it's too bad the band members are such boring dolts. but it is what it is.

Hype.

Man who cares, some people try too hard to hate things. Good music that I enjoy, who cares if the name changed or if they got noticed, just ignore that crap and you will enjoy your life a lot more.

but the point is that they're not going to have the longevity to take on a true slow build; you could argue that the muslims have been building for a year as it is. that's what gets lost in a pool of literally hundreds (thousands?) of similar-sounding indie darling hype bands. you grab a few, shoot for the stars, and pray for for the best, knowing that whatever the success - if any - is going to be very short lived.
