DOWNLOAD: John Doe - Heartless (MP3)

X

X have three holiday shows lined up for the end of this year in California. According to a flyer for the LA show, it is once again the full original lineup and "All your favorite X & holiday tunes".

And though there aren't any future, full band, east coast dates on X's calendar, "acoustic duo" Exene Cervenka and John Doe have two shows lined up in NYC in January of 2009. The first is January 10th at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. The show is seated, Justin Townes Earle is opening, and tickets are on sale at noon. The second is one day later at the much smaller Joe's Pub, but with no opener (and probably a drink minimum if you want a seat) - tickets are on sale now. All dates below...

X - Tour Dates
December 20, 2008 - Club Nokia, Los Angeles CA
December 26, 2008 - Slim's, San Francisco CA
December 27, 2008 - Slim's, San Francisco CA

Exene Cervenka and John Doe of X - Tour Dates

And one of the guy doesn't have any hands!

a credible argument can be made that X is among the best 10-20 US bands ever.

@12:21 -- normally when somebody offers that an argument can be made, they also support that argument with evidence. Nonetheless, I agree with you. Perhaps no evidence is needed and we can simply take judicial notice?

a credible argument can also be made the X is the only decent band from LA's "punk" scene.

I'm down with 12:21's credible argument. First three albums own.

And what do you all think of only 50% of X performing at Music Hall? Worth it?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 1:32 PM

^ yes.

Minutemen aren't decent? east coasters so into their scene...pfffft....rock, rock, rock, rock rock & roll high school....gag.

Black Flag?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 3:15 PM

Minutemen were from San Pedro. Black Flag was too late.

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 8:53 PM

Is Pedro technically part of LA?

Posted by Anonymous | December 11, 2008 9:02 PM

technically, but i don't think they would have ever called themselves "an LA band" or "from LA."

black flag is from hermosa beach. not LA.

Trying to agrue that Black Flag and Minutemen were not part of the LA punk scene is insanely stupid geographical nitpicking. And Black Flag started playing in 1979, so no, they were not "too late" in any way. Also, the Germs, bitches.

The Screamers, The Germs, The Weirdos, The Dils, The Bags, and X.

X with Billy Zoom is basically The Knitters, which are no where near as good as X.

"X with Billy Zoom is basically The Knitters, which are no where near as good as X."

dave alvin notwithstanding, are you seriously telling us that tony gilkyson is the 6 string answer?

i don't want to agree with anon 1:13, but the germs were a JOKE. next you're going to say you like sid vicious's solo records.

As much as I adore Alice Bag and Patty M, The Bags were more important in theory then sound.

X at Irving Plaza was the best show of the ~30 I went to in 2008.

I lived in LA from 1980 to 1984 when I was 20-24 and X are my favorite band ever. They were absolutely incredible at their peak, they ruled the entire city. Saw John Doe perform solo acoustically last year and he is gorgeous, just gorgeous.
