Hanukkah

After an opening set by Marc Ribot and John Zorn, and a bit of comedy by Slovin and Allen, Yo La Tengo headlined their third Hanukkah show in a row at Maxwell's on Tuesday with some help by guests Smokey Hormel (on guitar for the whole show) and Yoni Wolf of Why? (for a song at the end). Yoni was last seen playing a few sets at Anticon-fest at Knitting Factory last week, including one with/as his old group cLOUDDEAD. More pictures, and the setlist from Hanukkah Night Three, below...

that dude in the last picture, walking away with his pretty ladyfriend, he was wearing the same jacket as me. totally embarrassing.

That audience picture with all the serious and glum white people: so soul-crushing. I hope they all found what they were looking for.

Man, I can't believe all 8 nights sold out so fast. I really wanted to go.

Beautiful photos! What kind of camera are you using?

@2:45 (Zach) Glad you like the photos. I use a Sony a700 with some fast lenses(35 f/2, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.4, and 100 f/2).

as a long time yo la tengo fan i have to say that this set was incredible. really nice to see what the band sounds like with another guitarist to balance out ira's noise and feedback. really worked nicely. also, it happened to be an incredible set list. was happy a few of the recent staple set list tracks were omitted. 'little eyes' was purty.

Great post. It's so difficult to find good music these days, so having a guide helps. Thanks!
