Animal Collective vinyl may make history, a My Girls remix

Merriweather Post Pavilion record (craigowaffles)

The album the Chicago Tribune and Stereogum.com have already dubbed one of the best of the week-old year, Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion, could make some serious news next week when the Nielsen SoundScan numbers come out.You can grab Dave Wrangler's new remix of "My Girls" above...Why? The album, which won't get released on CD until January 20, dropped on January 6 in a deluxe double-LP 180-gram gatefold vinyl format accompanied by a full album download. And thanks to a series of listening parties across the country, it just might break into the albums chart next week, thanks to vinyl sales only. [MTV]
update: and/or download the much better Frankie Knuckles mashup too...,

Posted by gregory | January 11, 2009 8:26 AM

they must be doing something right, they've got the hipsters hating on them.
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 1:57 PM
i've heard they've blown through the entire pressing of 3000. pretty impressive.

it took me three years and a couple of tries to get into animal collective. i remember my first time ear was confused cause it sounded pretty incoherent. then I finally got hooked to "grass" and on and on. back then i never thought they would gain this much attention. Its pretty amazing and makes me happy cause I think they are a major driving force of innovative music these days and understanding the beauty of their tunes can only be achieved by really digging the vibe. Either you dig the vibe and you love it or you simply dont and then it obviously sounds like pretentious art-bullshit.
but anyways, isnt it just great that there are these 4 friends making more and more people really happy with the simple joy of listening to music they love!?

just some really decent guys doing nice music

I bet that 11 months from now MPP won't even be Pitchfork's #1 album of the year...
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 4:13 PM
it's funny how everyone sucks this bands dick until they start getting big. MPP is a great record, not as good as Feels or Sung Tongs but it's still great. God forbid a band you like gets big! How dare they be successful!
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 4:24 PM
lol, nobody stopped liking them because of this record. what are you talking about
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 4:49 PM
who the fuck is animal collective? do they collect animals?

"they must be doing something right, they've got the hipsters hating on them."
i agree with this post.
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 6:23 PM
^^^
Well, if Anonymous at 6:32 agrees with that post, then I guess I ought to give some thought to agreeing with it, myself!
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 7:30 PM
this hipster-bickering thing in american blogs is ridiculous. its so fuckin diffuse
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 9:04 PM
so are you
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 9:10 PM
Diffuse is the new irrelevant.
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 9:40 PM
absolute fucking garbage. that record label must be ecstatic knowing they wasted tons of money on pressing gay ass 180 gram vinyl copies with full, poorly designed gatefold covers knowing full well they'll be in the $1 clearance bin at whichever record shops will even bother selling them in the first place in 6 months!!
LOL at "might break into the album chart" next week....I advise these so-called "musicians" to stick to something they're more talented at, such as working a fryelator at a nearby white castle.
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 10:14 PM
10:14 - how do you figure? They've been around for almost a decade selling more and more records, built up a devoted fanbase, you just sound like an idiot. Well, like someone who's left out cause you don't get it... pity...
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 10:51 PM
Is it just me or do a bunch of self-centered pricks visit this site?
If you don't like it, why don't you head on over to Pitchfork. They seem to give positive reviews to the stupid shit you ACTUALLY might like..
Who created the fucking internet?
Posted by LeaveYourNumber | January 12, 2009 1:43 AM
a friend of mine told me they played animal collective at a strip club in atlanta
Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2009 3:09 AM
i agree who invented the internet
Posted by gregory | January 12, 2009 6:53 AM
To Anon@1:43 - you mean like the 9.6 they gave the AC record?
Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2009 7:38 AM
I want to be friends with 2:20 and 2:31.
Posted by Anonymous | January 12, 2009 3:10 PM
i didn't stop liking animal collective because they got big, i stopped liking animal collective because they got boring. however, when the idiot indie pop sect starts liking a band that was once as difficult for them as animal collective was, you can bet your pants the backlash is in full effect among the original fans, and it started with sung tongs.

Who is Dave Wrangler?
Someone tell him to quit his shit.
The Merriweather post Pavilion album is amazing, absolutely amazing.
This jackass better quit putting out a bad name for them.
