Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 12:31 PM

didn't get tickets...don't need to after seeing them 2 days this week

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 12:33 PM

this is really weird

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 12:36 PM

HOW

Posted by gejowhg | January 23, 2009 12:40 PM

I saw the show at the Metro last night... pretty much the same as Pitchfork last summer but somewhat less inspired and energetic. Looks like the band might be kinda fatigued though, Avey didn't come out for the one-song encore (comfy in nautica) and they didn't even set up the light towers. Maybe that was ultimately the missing touch...?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 12:42 PM

the best thing about the bowery show was the way the light show was burned into my eyes and then when i closed them it was powerful enough that it continued on through my eyelids and created a sort of hypnagogic landscape by interacting with the burns from when i had my eyes opened. also comfy in nautica

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 12:43 PM

anon 12:43, I love you.

Oh wow I just got schooled by 12:54.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 1:03 PM

since when did animal collective become the beatles? anyways, i got 4 tickets, not selling but going.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 1:06 PM

There's already a bag (presumptively filled with douche) scalping AC tickets on craigslist:

"Pair of tix to the May 13th show at Terminal 5. GA, so you can get as close as you want.

$119 for the pair. I will e-mail the tickets to you. I'm Paypal-verified and have perfect Ebay feedback."

This is not okay.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 1:10 PM

scalpers have been around forever and that will continue. Some people love music but don't put in the time to research when tickets go on sale so they eventually buy tickets for double/triple the value. It doesn't help matters that the state of New York in April of 2007 abolished all ticket scalping laws. So as of now, it is a free for all. Bottom line is, the venue gets their money and so does the bands......and now the scalpers too!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 1:17 PM

fuck hipsters and scalpers
i tried to get tix at 1238. gone.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 1:22 PM

AC tickets were gone by 12:10.

Animal Collective will _______ at T5.
a) be sick
b) kill
c) bring Obama on for a Purple Bottle encore
d) eat TVOTR
e) play "Fireworks" for an hour and 15 minutes
f) sing acapella

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 1:35 PM

I upped a few videos from the Bowery show on youtube - search for "animal collective bowery". Still trying to get all of Fireworks up, as youtube won't take videos over 10 mins.

what a fucking world, animal collective at a 2000+ venue sold out in minutes, is anyone really gonna nut themselves seeing 'my girls' live? This isn't radiohead.

Mike/2:07 -- Listen harder and stop sniveling. "Boo Hoo ME NO UNDERSTAND!"

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 2:29 PM

Really great photos.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 2:35 PM

They didn't schedule this tour very well. Should have left room to add another date or two at T5. They would have made a killing. Maybe they can add one on 5/10 before they go to DC?

Oh well.. I don't know why I even give a shit. I hate AC. Guess I'm just caught up in the fever. You couldn't pay me to actually go see them live again. Painful.

Posted by wembley | January 23, 2009 2:38 PM

kill yourself

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 2:39 PM

too bad only a few hundred of us saw them at bowery...all you haters prob saw a makeshift feels era show...so don't speak until u see a real animal show, and no, t5 doesnt count

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 2:43 PM

Brothersport is their "Born Slippy"

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 3:13 PM

NO WAY T5 will be anywhere near as good as seeing them at Bowery. That much is fo' sho'!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 3:20 PM

slippi is worth the price of admission alone. totally blew me away at bowery. when the chorus kicks in, it easily beats anything else they performed.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 3:37 PM

it's not really sold out
presale or something right?!
this is impossible!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:02 PM

1:17 - "people loving music but don't put in the time to research when tickets go on sale so they eventually buy tickets for double/triple the value" is complete bullshit. there's a much higher demand for tickets than ever before and most shows sell out moments after going on sale. it has nothing to do about "researching when tickets go on sale". this wasn't necessarily the case for this show - but it sold out a lot quicker than most people assumed.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:06 PM

the hype is hysterical. where were all these fans less than 2 years ago at the FREE seaport show and the million of other gigs they've done over the years? are people really being converted 6 years too late? i wish people had to still stand in lines for tickets...

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:12 PM

they've also been playing these "new" tracks for well over a year now-

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:23 PM

I saw them at the Bowery Ballroom in 2006. It was great.

I don't need to ever see them again. Especially in Terminal 5.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:28 PM

You snooze, you lose folks. I've had no problem getting 4 tickets to grand ballroom or 4 tickets to Bowery or now 4 tickets to Terminal 5.

In the words of Win Butler...WAKE UP!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:30 PM

they've been playing them since that spring/summer tour in 07
but that doesn't mean i wanna stop seeing them
this is just insane!
like is this all happening on purpose
are some higher beings setting all this crazyness up and for some reason they chose animal collective to be the band?!
my god i couldn't even give away these tickets before
i swear
i remember once for those most recent webster hall shows i walked around with a sign on my back saying i'm selling two for 10 bucks
and all i got was a i like your sign or ppl just wanted to talk to me about how great they are
but no buyers and it was sold
now they're playing a 3000 capacity venue
and it sells out in minutes?!!!!!
WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:31 PM

and FTWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:32 PM

It's because they are creating the most interesting pop music today

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:41 PM

I never use the Pause Break key on my keyboard, so I replaced it with something new specifically for these posts. I'll hit it now

Terminal 5 sucks

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:42 PM

oh my god it really is sold out! red letters on terminal 5 site! like will their next venue be madison square garden
i guess it was no lie when they said it may be the last time to see them at such a small venue as bowery
well atleast i saw them twice there and once at northsix
it was nice to relive that small venue ever it almost felt like there was a chance to see it again once the cd excitment cooled down... guess not

to the ppl who are saying, ooh i saw them at bowery no need to see them again
are y'all off your rockers?!

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:43 PM

you think i give a fuck? i got modeselekotr on saturday

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:48 PM

I think Tom Yaps has extra tickets. Email him a yaps@gatorwrestling.com

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:51 PM

At APW hardly anyone gave a fuck. Go check the comments, less than 6 months ago. I have all their albums, and I'm glad I dont like them that much anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 4:51 PM

I hope pitchfork gives 6.7 on their next album, so I can go back to seeing them again...

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 5:02 PM

Animal Collective are good on some albums but one of the stupidest live bands I've ever seen. I can't believe people are paying like $150 for tickets! bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 6:17 PM

Haha I love how many people love them now because of Pitchfork. I'm fine enjoying the albums and saving my money for much better live bands.

Posted by Yep AC Still Sucks Live | January 23, 2009 7:23 PM

To all you worried people out there, they will announce ATLEAST one more show in NYC at Terminal 5. They play May 11th in DC (which is at 930 club, probably the best venue on the east coast..go there and you can see them and still say you saw them at a 300 person club), then come up to nyc a few days later. They will make more at T5 then any other venue in America, so they will play more shows there. It fits in their schedule and in T5's schedule. So, don't buy tickets on craigslist, and just use common sense.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 7:37 PM

you don't know anything 7:37. 930 is about 4x bigger than 300 capacity

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 9:06 PM

i dig them live...saw AC live 3 times and it was different and interesting each time...who are the better psychedelic bands? would love to hear them if it is better than MPP

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 10:37 PM

Totally... 7:37 is a moron. 930 is actually a pretty decent-sized venue. Probably more akin to Irving Plaza.

Posted by wembley | January 23, 2009 11:13 PM

11:13 and 9:06-

just because 7:37 doesn't know the exact capacity of 930 club does not make him an idiot. he is just mistaken. and he is right by saying that they probably will add at least one more show at T5 or somewhere else in new york around there. most bands do that if they sell out terminal 5 in under 15 minutes.

stop being so critical. and anyway 11:13, 930 club is smaller than irving plaza. google it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 11:36 PM

fuck scalpers.

Posted by moe jullen | January 24, 2009 1:38 AM

can someone do a statistics of all the Bowery presents shows, venues capacity...how many people bought ALL those tickets in like 15 min. (i was right btw)
and 2nd night show really missed out on "Daily Routine"...

Posted by Pedro | January 24, 2009 4:39 AM

"what a fucking world, animal collective at a 2000+ venue sold out in minutes, is anyone really gonna nut themselves seeing 'my girls' live? This isn't radiohead."

I forgot I saw Radiohead last year, as much as I love them it wasn't a highlight. Personally, I like MPP 10 X more than In Rainbows...maybe time will tell I different story, but that is just me as I love them both. So to answer your question, I might nut myself over seeing My Girls. Thanks

the hype IS hysterical and if someone had asked me in 2003 if AC would get this fucking huge, to the point where they are selling out in minutes like they're Radiohead or some shit, i would have probably laughed in their face. but as the music changed, as did the demographic i guess.
but still... many of you fucking idiots are treating it like 64 and the Beatles just landed at JFK and are playing a whole string of shows.
oh wait.. that's actually a great analogy, since many of you weren't at the Hamburg shows and the Liverpool shows and the Manchester shows and blah blah. you're several years late and you're love is looking ugly to those who have been here all along.
your adoration for the band, whether you realize it and accept it or not, all the hype you fuckers are attaching to this band, this band you love so dearly is disgusting.
FUCK YOU.

"Most great bands elicit strong responses, negative or positive, which means they aren't afraid of risks and aren't catering to people, but rather following their creative muse"

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 11:08 AM

Look 10:52 i've been listening to AC for a while too, and you simply can't get this mad at people for jumping on the bandwagon so to speak following MPP. The fact is it is their most accessible and "pop" album, and the fact is that a lot of people who their old stuff was too boring or too weird or too this or too that are finally giving them a chance, and you know what more power to 'em. I'm just as pissed as you i didn't get a ticket to (any of) the show(s). But honestly you're playing into that Pitchfork/Hipster stereotype by hating on people for joining a few albums too late. I mean seriously could you see Kanye fans getting mad at the people who only showed up for the graduation tour?

ditch school
high school doesn't matter (i'm assuming you're in high school cuz college kids don't give crap even if it does matter)
and take a train!
just get a cheap round trip for a town outside new york (not the actual 20+ dollar one for trenton)and the conductors won't even bother you they never do for the trenton line. just ask for a step up and they'll grumble and say whatever.
then take the nice seca ride in (only 2 bux)(it's the craziest sights!)
take a nice (long)strole through philly remember to stay to the left before hitting the underpass or you'll get stuck in the mid of the highway
and you're there! (i kind of miss the days of taking these hikes to see them at first unitarian instead)
the show ends early so you'll probably be able to make the ride back home in time
if not make sure you bring enough friends to keep up in the city with and find a 24 hour diner or some spot ahead of time
these kind of experiences is what makes your child hood
and a soldout T5 will be something you're glad happened

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 7:36 PM

has anyone looked at the craigslist selling topics? the sellers are such douchebags even in selling it. it's bad enough they're making money by doing nothing. but they're like bid away kids!, have fun bidding kids, be serious in bidding kids. it's really disgusting. i wanna throw up, and this really puts a damper on something i use to look forward to

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 9:15 PM

to the p4k haters who are baaawing here:

i saw them play for 70 minutes with tons of stacks, full lightshow, open-air environs, dozens of food/beer vendors, and ample/clean toilet accomodations.
oh, i forgot, other acts on the bill included:
public enemy, sebadoh, mission of burma, spoon, dinosaur jr., jarvis cocker, fleet foxes, boris, no age, and dozens more i can't recall at the moment. i paid $50 for the 3-day pass.

yeah, you're right, they suck.

Posted by quilty | January 25, 2009 9:37 AM

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2009 6:33 PM

Love em.. But if their reverb pedals ever broke, they would be a totally different band. All respect though...

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2009 8:41 PM

haha 10:52/6:33, the only time in my recollection that following an argument of sorts on bv someone has made a mature response let along going so far as to thank me my points. Thank you for not being a tool, you're ill.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2009 11:22 PM

honestly, this is retarded. ive been a fan for a longg time and im very happy that they're doing what they're doing. all you douches acting like "omg, their stuff was like, soo much better when i was the only one listening to them and people thought i was weird" could eat a dick. honestly. be happy that a band you love (if not love, then like, somewhat), is doing what they're doing, pushing the envelope, STILL gaining new fans, and possibly making a little more money doing it. that being said, I AM HAPPY IT SOLD OUT IN HALF AN HOUR (and no, i dont have tickets to the terminal 5 show, i'm saying this as a true fan)... because you know what? they deserve it. stop being so critical you dumb fucks. half of you wouldnt say shit if you werent behind a computer.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 12:22 AM

news flash:
don't like bands that are getting hyped on Pitchfork's shows selling out in 20 mins?

GET THE FUCK OUT OF NEW YORK CITY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Seriously. The only thing the NYC "scene" has to prove anymore is the absolute most awful examples of the brutal extremes of supply and demand.

Spend the money you'd spend on scalped tix to see them in hipster hell and go see 'em in another city. Take a nice little trip with your fella or your lady. Pick a city where the Flickr mafia exists at a fraction of the extent that it does at NYC shows. Enjoy. Maybe think about moving there, too.

"listen to Grass and My Girls back to back, and I think if you guys thing this My Girls song is as good as stuff they were doing 3 or 4 years ago, you guys are in a mass delusional state."

Why doesn't anybody that comments on here seem to comprehend the concept of subjective musical tastes. Oh never mind, it because everybody here is too fucking pretentious that they're afraid to like anything that didn't happen 4 years ago.

Well, 90% of the people anyway.

I didn't realize it was hip to trash to the record you picked up at soundfix the day it came out.

The seaport show was packed, doofus.

Also, why are you surprised that a band acquires more fans over time? That's how popular music works.

animal collective was great. that was many years ago. feels, strawberry, and now this. three in a row, diminishing returns. it was a rapid descent. too bad. you kids enjoy it now.

to philip- I did look at it objectively, I find their harmonies and their new sound overall extremely annoying. Its like a turn into some kind of Vampire Weekend wanna be band.

ok whatever I moved on and let you guys support them from now on. Once the hype dies down, history will prove me right.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 1:17 PM

Anon 1:17, many of us have supported them from Spirit to the present.

Also, to say, "I did look at it objectively, I find their harmonies and their new sound overall extremely annoying." is a logical fallacy. One cannot label their own opinion ("I find") as an objective remark.

As far as history goes, some of us just listen to the music we like rather than playing into the hyperbolic indie hype-train of wanting to be "right" about the quality of music from the clearer hindsight view. Let's at least be civil and not compare AC to VW.

Posted by Philip | January 26, 2009 3:18 PM

Some in-depth thoughts on AC's appeal/evolving legacy:

I will chuckle when I get my ticket for $15 on May 1st from a disgruntled scalper.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 4:10 PM

philip- by objectively I mean I have no personal animosity or any axes to grind with AC, and I think I gave this music a fair shot. I dont like it now and I seriously doubt I will like it in the future.

as for comparison to WV, just notice that some of the same bloggers who were hyping WV last year, are now hyping AC.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 4:26 PM

their newer stuff makes their older stuff more accessible.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 9:22 AM

Grouper added to the bill, probably the act least suited to Terminal 5 that I can imagine. She'll probably still be amazing though. Hopefully the new fans who just want to hear My Girls won't show up early and talk through her whole set. Not that I mind new fans, just that I don't imagine they'd be very receptive of Grouper, especially in a big ol' box like Terminal 5.

PS any pics of the High Places/Grouper show at the New Museum?

The lights at this show added some nice touches to the concert.
