March of the Zapotec and RealPeople Holland
March of the Zapotec

Beirut's two new EPs (pictured above) are out in February.

Beirut is playing Coco66 in Greenpoint (again) TONIGHT, Monday January 26th, at 10PM. It's free. Good luck.

Beirut also has Brooklyn shows coming up at BAM and MHOW, and one at Vassar.

oh well

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 10:41 PM

Really, Zach Condon? I love you to pieces. But, cmon now. You gotta alert your fans by text or something when you do secret shows like this. We can't be checking BV every hour.

Posted by The Concubine | January 26, 2009 10:50 PM

amen!

really, zach?

Posted by The Shrew | January 26, 2009 11:08 PM

terrible show. Zach was drunk. band was not playing together and Zach made some pretty cocky comments. When did he become Mick jagger?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:03 AM

just got back from the show. nice to see them play, but not very good. I have tickets to see them at BAM but not sure I still want to go.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:10 AM

what the hell was that? if i had paid for that show, i would have asked for my money back. i'm going to cut them some slack and say it's because they haven't played shows in a while, but this was like band rehearsal.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:17 AM

This was probably one of the worst shows I've ever seen. First, you couldn't even hear it. Second, what was that shit with Zach saying about his Ukulele being stolen but not worth anything because he didn't sign it? Get off your high horse young man. Not to mention he was completely inebriated. I also have tickets for BAM and they are for sale. $5 PER TICKET!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:23 AM

wow i was upset when i saw that i missed this, but i guess going to andrew bird was a better choice.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:25 AM

wow. my first time seeing them and they are dreadful live. happy this was a free show.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:29 AM

The fuck?
Besides the loud ass hipsters talking while they were performing, I thought it was a good show.
BV posters are jaded retards.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:34 AM

Zach treated this show like no respectable musician would. Any artist who respects music would have taken this much more seriously than he did. Unable to play his instrument. Laughing after each verse. Not in key with the other members. He was wasted! Was this some sort of joke? I understand this was a free, spur of the moment show, but we came to hear your music, not watch you get drunk and take advantage of what little fame you have.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:39 AM

I'm not a jaded retard and I was there and I didn't hear many people talking. I agree it wasn't a very good show. He did say they haven't played in awhile.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:42 AM

heard the new album. if i wanted to here a mexican band play with no one singing i'd move to mexico. second half is only good part.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:46 AM

the only loud and lousy ass hipsters talking were the ones on stage

Posted by homedepotation | January 27, 2009 12:54 AM

if any of you are actually selling your BAM tickets, how can we get in touch with you?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 12:56 AM

Anyone expecting a great show is retarded. It was not bad by any stretch, just not that great. It was a warm up for the other shows. Meaning it was not going to be perfect.
Oh and it was FREE.
How many cities have world touring bands that play for free in small bars randomly?
Stop whining.
It's posts like these that make Brooklynvegan awesome and you guys still shit on it. I hate you all.

Posted by Vivian Deacon | January 27, 2009 1:30 AM

yea i second what Vivian said... thx BV....really appreciate it.

Posted by MRCnyc | January 27, 2009 1:36 AM

1:27: They played the song Brazil

I enjoyed the show for what its worth. Thanks for the tip.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 1:50 AM

I wish I could see Beirut for free.

Posted by me88 | January 27, 2009 1:55 AM

this thread is full of shit-talkers who are not willing to stand behind what they are saying, hence all the anonymous posts. it was a FREE FUCKING SHOW. jesus. what were you expecting? fuck that. it wasn't perfect, but it's not like this was carnegie hall. it was a dive in greenpoint that you got into for free. you know what? i appreciated it and felt they played a lot of beautiful and genuinely moving music. and somewhere in the middle of the set, i felt myself accidentally and stupidly happy. i hadn't been so accidentally and stupidly happy at a show since probably my jamband days (a truly unproud period, yes, i am aware.) but i digress. what i mean to say is, on behalf of my roommate and i, thanks for the tip. you totally made our night.

Posted by james yeh | January 27, 2009 2:28 AM

This was not a good show.

Posted by Jeff from 344 Meserole | January 27, 2009 2:51 AM

This was one of the better shows I've been to in a long ass time, what the fuck.

Yeah he was getting a little drunk. In the SECOND HOUR. They played a looong set, with an intermission. I loved the tunes and deeply appreciated being able to go.

Also, drinking is part of the tradition of this music -- and anyhow the haters are exaggerating how much he flubbed the lyrics/playing. I would say it was minor, and enhanced the experience because he was enjoying himself as he performed.

And he wasn't saying his stolen uke could only have made money if he'd signed it. He was saying he would only have been able to identify it on Ebay if people were selling it as HIS uke. Der.

Anybody who went and is complaining is a sourpuss. I'd have paid $20 and left happy. I think the skinny jeans brigade has turned on Zach cuz he porked out a little this year. Whatever, he's still a really talented musician and great performer.

Posted by aroundthewayboy | January 27, 2009 2:52 AM

These EPs are bloody amazing.

Posted by Bing | January 27, 2009 3:25 AM

I see plenty of free shows in the city. I like many of them because I select the ones I want to see consciously. The fact that a show is free can never be an excuse for the band to give a lousy performance.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 3:26 AM

Here's the deal. I was at the show. Zach was in fact drunk. The band didn't sound very good. Free or $20, this was not at all a good performance. I can see why someone would be disappointed about paying $20 to go see this again. It was my choice to rush to see this free show and my opinion is that it was not good. Tell me, why does this convey my jeans are tight? Could it be you who is the whiney ass hipster? I guess I'm not entitled to my own thoughts and conclusions.

there is a nice edit of one of the tracks called venice from that new ep here....

www.myspace.com/tcroose

...the show was cool btw.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 4:00 AM

you guys are crazy. I had a great time, and the band was awesome. great to see them in such a small place.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 5:31 AM

zach was drunk. but no drunker than anyone would be playing to a bar full of drunk youngens on a monday night. i was right up front and thought the sound, for a place whose acoustics are far from outstanding, was pretty decent. definitely nothing to complain about (and I enjoy complaining about bad sound). really see no reason to hate on this show. no it was not life changing, but it was definitely better than staying home on a Monday night watching reruns of man vs. food.

Posted by mcg | January 27, 2009 7:17 AM

i saw zach eating pizza waiting for the L train on friday. it was the worst eating of pizza i've ever seen. i'm glad it was free!

^^ LAWLZ

Posted by Bing | January 27, 2009 9:41 AM

was there ping pong?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 10:27 AM

the show may not have been perfect, but considering the shows next week will be slightly more of an event, it was really fun to see beirut up live and close in a small bar. for free. on a monday night. i was standing right in front of zach and i thought it was great...good set list, decent sound, etc. and when i looked around the room, everyone had big smiles on their faces. he may have been a little drunk, but he fessed up to it and i got a free beer out of it so...

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 10:41 AM

how were the new songs live?

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 10:52 AM

signed ukele for sale!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 11:03 AM

Posted by B | January 27, 2009 11:36 AM

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 11:51 AM

The show was pretty magic. It's a shame you idiots couldn't enjoy it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 27, 2009 2:02 PM

Wow, no need to be nasty when it is your own misunderstanding. Yes, can we repeat!?

"And he wasn't saying his stolen uke could only have made money if he'd signed it. He was saying he would only have been able to identify it on Ebay if people were selling it as HIS uke. Der."
