Who is Paul McCartney? He is anything like Jack Johnson?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 8:52 AM

WOW!! Pretty sick lineup!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 8:52 AM

It would've taken Bowie or a Smiths reunion to get me out there but this is a pretty great lineup, just need the addition of a big act on Saturday.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 8:52 AM

My Morning Jacket, are you busy on Saturday, 18th??

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 8:54 AM

i cant go this year, and im so glad that blur/pavement/bowie/smiths are not on here. this is a great lineup, but kind of underwhelming in my opinion. bonnaroo here i come!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 8:58 AM

Rollins = LIAR!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:04 AM

Really fantastic lineup in my opinion. If you are underwhelmed by this, I think you need to double check your expectations.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:09 AM

keep in mind that they usually add other big names as it gets closer. i'm guessing someone else is going to be added saturday night for sure.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:11 AM

>keep in mind that they usually add other big names as it gets closer. i'm guessing someone else is going to be added saturday night for sure.

yeah, especially when Amy Winehouse cancels..

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:18 AM

"Really fantastic lineup in my opinion. If you are underwhelmed by this, I think you need to double check your expectations."

just double-checked my expectations, and i expected blur, pavement, smiths, or bowie. so yea, underwhelming. the only artist i really want to see or have never seen is leonard cohen, and ill probably scalp tickets for beacon

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:22 AM

"keep in mind that they usually add other big names as it gets closer. i'm guessing someone else is going to be added saturday night for sure."

yeah someone will certainly be added saturday

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:23 AM

i don't know, it kind of sucks. the killers? paul mccartney? throbbing grissle is great and all, but it's 2009. i wouldn't consider paying that kind of money for this lineup.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:24 AM

Meh

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:25 AM

ATP!

this lineup is not that good people.

not coachella good anyhow.

i will go back one day, not this year tho...

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:30 AM

This sure is no APW!?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:32 AM

Meh x I canz go

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:33 AM

The unannounced act is prolly Springsteen, I would think.

04-10 Denver, CO - Pepsi Arena
04-15 Los Angeles, CA - LA Memorial Sports Arena
04-21 Boston, MA - TD Banknorth Garden

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:34 AM

"This sure is no APW!?"

im thinking APW will be epic this year

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:34 AM

does this always sellout?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:35 AM

Anyone who thinks this lineup is "Meh" doesn't listen to enough music

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:36 AM

wow the only way to get me out to the desert is something special ala prince last year but this lineup is so expected. its a fine line up but nothing that screams im going to fly across the country for. they really need to add some more bigger things. so much for the blur/oasis/morrissey-marr set/U2 etc.

Posted by pdiddy | January 30, 2009 9:38 AM

whats the deal with tickets? arent they supposed to be on sale? did they sell out?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:38 AM

No way Amy Winehouse is getting into this country

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:38 AM

Whether someone is added for Sat or not, it's the most exciting Coachella lineup in quite a while.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:41 AM

Paul McCartney II is a classic album, I hope he does some shit from it!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:45 AM

the horrors? really?

and sunday is really the only solid day.

Posted by d | January 30, 2009 9:45 AM

I am actually shocked to see that people dont think this lineup is very weak. McCartney is a big get...but The Killers and Amy Winehouse essentially headlining Saturday? How is Amy Winehouse billed higher than TV on the Radio?

They are also missing good headliner electronic acts. Where is Basement Jaxx, the Prodigy and/ or Royksopp???

Man...i really thought they would have come back strong after last years weak lineup that had them throwing down big bucks weeks b4 the show to book Prince for millions just to sell tix.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:48 AM

"The unannounced act is prolly Springsteen, I would think.

04-10 Denver, CO - Pepsi Arena
04-15 Los Angeles, CA - LA Memorial Sports Arena

shit i hope youre wrong

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:48 AM

"whats the deal with tickets? arent they supposed to be on sale? did they sell out?"

Pacific Time

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:55 AM

"How is Amy Winehouse billed higher than TV on the Radio?"

amy winehouse sells more records than tvotr...its a good thing you aren't in charge of the scheduling of this festival...take your skewed indie snobbery perception elsewhere.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:56 AM

yeah really, can springsteen go home and retire?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:56 AM

how are MSTRKRFT getting this high a billing...over Superchunk????, they are a shitty Daft Punk rip-off with one mediocre album WTF?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:57 AM

>yeah really, can springsteen go home and retire?

unlock your soul, asshole

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 9:59 AM

i'm sorry but if you have Franz as 3rd in line on one of the days, you know that's not a strong lineup. and MMJ played last year, so most likely count them out.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:01 AM

Sweet lineup. And adding springsteen would be epic (his new album is pretty awesome, better than magic).

The layaway is going to be a big help.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:03 AM

Never been to Coachella. How does camping etc work? You buy the 3 day pass and its included? Or you have to make other arragements. Apoligies for my ignorance.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:05 AM

SUPERCHUNK!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:11 AM

Franz Ferdinand is awesome and they deserve the 3rd spot!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:13 AM

you can buy a camping pass, which is a real good idea to do since you will be only 2 minute walk from the entrance, you got showers there, and places to buy food. I think getting motels or alternate camp sites is a clusterfuck.

also keep in mind there is no public transportation from Palm Spring Airport to the grounds, so figure in 80 bucks for a taxi each way, that is even if you can get a taxi on monday morning, almost missed our flight monday morning because it was so hard to find a taxi. This is why on the balance if you want to do a fest Id suggest bonnaroo.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:14 AM

bonnaroo is poop, coachella has 95% less stinky hippies and 85% less stinky hippie jam bands

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:16 AM

Electric Arguments is not that great of an album. Still, Sir Paul is always a treat.

Killers as headliners? Meh indeed. I like their music, but they are not headlining material.

Is Henry Rollins still doing that spoken work crap or is he finally rocking again? Rollins Band kicked ass.

And I am so glad there was no truth to the Replacements rumor.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:17 AM

tickets? wtf?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:19 AM

"im thinking APW will be epic this year"

There won't be an APW this year. Mark my words.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:19 AM

@ 10:14 - Thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:20 AM

Took a drive through the Indio/Coachella area last week. Even visting in January, this seems to be an incredible setting for a music festival.

Posted by drewo | January 30, 2009 10:35 AM

My Bloody Valentine is worth the price alone.

Posted by Big Perm | January 30, 2009 10:39 AM

TRAV$DJ-AM are going burn the place up!!! When they perform, they're on FIRE!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:45 AM

where's animal collective?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:49 AM

haters all of you. i bet if most of ya'll had an extra grand and the time off from work you'd go. all this "this lineup blows" and "i'd never go" probably means you suck at life, have no money or connections, and pout over the internet from your cubicle. have fun at never having fun. Coachella is the best festival in the US. fucking indiefags.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:49 AM

the hip-hop is decent:

P.E.
People Under The Stairs
Themselves
PB Wolf
Atmosphere
The Knux (dont count)
Rahzel w/ Mike Patton (kinda doesn't count)

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:50 AM

YYYs!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:50 AM

Coachella is grea, but the lineup needs to be really good for someone from the east coast to go to. With flights costing around $400, I expect a solid headliner, someone that hasn't performed in NYC yet.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 10:56 AM

You can get a round trip flight to CA for $250 right now.

Cheaper than the ticket.

Posted by A Roach | January 30, 2009 10:59 AM

>you could probably rent a car for $40 a day or less... and / or fly into Ontario airport 90 mins mins away. cheaper & less crowded

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 11:05 AM

paul m, killers, and the cure are all underwhelming live. i know i need to "check myself" or i'm a "hater", but they do not put on strong big live shows.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 11:05 AM

i thought this is usually in the summer? i'm i wrong?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 11:18 AM

they can't do it in the summer, it's 110 degrees there in April

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 11:28 AM

"My Bloody Valentine is worth the price alone."

I heartily agree.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 11:37 AM

Relax the people who are reading these comments and cannot believe the stupids who are saying this is an amazing lineup and so worth it, The people doing that are ones who do not go to many shows in this city either because they cant afford it or they cant get the tickets to it. Instead of getting tickets to Franz Ferdinand at Bowery or Morrissey at Bowery or My Bloody Valentine at ATP or even Roseland, these losers spend it on an all in one venture out to the festivals, stand 3 miles back from the stage and claim what a moving experience they had. What makes Coachella special every year is the exclusive performer(s) they thrown in there. This year has none of that. Yeah yeah i know, it's the atmosphere of being there. Uh Huh. For an avid concertgoer in this city this is a "I have seen most of this lineup in much smaller more intimate better sounding venues this year" So enjoy being miles away from Morrissey and Leonard Cohen watching it on a video monitor. I will be seeing them up close in amazing sounding rooms with about 1/1000th the amount of people that you will.

Added notes:
once again the so called "insiders" on here were wrong as usual.
I would not bet the farm on Winehouse actually making it to the gig
For Anon 10:19-trust me you fuck there is going to be APW this year. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Now bring on the hate.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 11:56 AM

"My Bloody Valentine is worth the price alone."

"I heartily agree."

You're both tools.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 11:58 AM

i got to the front of the stage for MBV at Roseland for $50 bucks few months ago, so hardly worth it for me.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 12:02 PM

As someone who goes to lots of shows in NYC (usually at small venues) and who hasn't gone to an outdoor festival of this size since the early 90s, I couldn't ask for a better lineup.

YYYs for 4EVA!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 12:04 PM

APW 2009 has been canceled due to lack of interest.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 12:06 PM

"i got to the front of the stage for MBV at Roseland for $50 bucks few months ago, so hardly worth it for me."

Saw the Roseland show too, but MBV is worth seeing again...at least to me.

"APW 2009 has been canceled due to lack of interest."

do you have a press release stating this?

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 12:15 PM

The only band on here that is a once in a lifetime possibility (maybe, there are rumors they will play in NYC) is Throbbing Gristle. Everyone else has played or will play NY in the near future.

"Saturday tix have sold out"

Lies!

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 2:59 PM

Leonard Cohen tickets are going for something like $500 now, so unless you already got 'em, this is probably actually a cheaper alternative.

And as someone who has seen practically every band on this list, save Throbbing Gristle, mostly in small clubs, I still think Coachella and the ilk are worth it. Some bands are better in a festival environment, and I for one think it's going to be a joy watching 100,000 get confused about MBV's insanely loud set. And for them, the bigger the speaker system the better.

Still, though. This is a solid, though uninspiring lineup. I'm still going, but I would have liked one WTF headliner. But there's a lot to like here.

Posted by Rick | January 30, 2009 6:24 PM

It's a decent lineup, although I was really expecting to see Pavement. Maybe they'll be added later. Springsteen on Saturday night makes sense.

Posted by Anonymous | January 30, 2009 7:25 PM

The line up beats last years even with prince, I mean c'mon Jack Johnson headlining that's absolutely terrible, The Killers may not be the most logical choice for a headliner as they are still relatively new, but it will help to sell tickets in this recession, The Cure is a pretty lame choice as the hefty robert smith seems quite boring live, but it is a very well rounded line up each day

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2009 1:21 AM

coachella officially left techno/house music behind...

Coachella officially left techno/house music behind. sahara tent is gonna suck this year.

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2009 3:13 AM

I hope he plays "Spies Like Us"!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2009 3:40 AM

the killers are so fucking bad nowadays, it's pathetic
i saw them in 2004 when they were a solid band, and hadn't made the shitty music they make today.
what a disappointing saturday headliner

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2009 12:06 PM

I'm glad Coachella was able to wheel out most of the artists that have played every outdoor festival for the last 2-3 years. How unexpected! But I guess we should get super excited for 70 year old Paul McCartney to play some garbage off of his new album.

PASS!

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2009 12:07 PM

... or for Amy Winehouse to bore everyone while singing songs off of her 3 year old album.

Posted by Anonymous | January 31, 2009 12:09 PM
