CYHSY taking a break?, Chairlift tour w/ Yacht - 2009 dates

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are apparently taking a (possibly permanent?) "break" after the previously-announced February 13th show at BAM. The rumor is that they've nixed plans to go back into the studio, and that they have no further dates scheduled. I'm not saying I'm 100% positive this is the last we'll see of them, but it seems likely the show will be the last chance to see them for a very long time, if not ever. Chairlift opens, and tickets are still on sale.
In the meantime, CYHSY's Tyler and Robbie have been keeping busy with Uninhabitable Mansions, who have a show coming up February 27th at Union Hall. CYHSY's drummer Sean continues to play Axl Rose in the Gn'R cover band Mr. Browstone. Their next gig is February 7th at Starland Ballroom in NJ. Alec Ounsworth's latest pastime is being a father.
After BAM, Chairlift are going on a March tour with Yacht, and will be visiting the west coast in April with Sebastien Tellier. Though not confirmed, I'd say the March tour makes it look like they'll be at SXSW, and the April dates have them coming awfully close to Coachella. All dates below...

Probably taking a break after the realization that they are having trouble selling out BAM.
When a band puts out a terrible 2nd album it can be deadly. Sad.

Like both albums, thought they were awful live (twice), and it definitely reduced my enthusiasm for the band.

they're a pretty good band, but from what I can tell the reception outside of the east coast has been pretty mixed at best.

I couldn't agree more. For real, I remember being in that long ass line outside Mercury for that late night night show a few years back and Ialso remember their shows instantly selling out! Their shows were not only fun, but were always packed too! They were on point at that Merc show, along with all the ones at Bowery, the NYE show at Irving (& Hammerstetin), all the way to Conan O'Brien.
I don't understand what happened with these guys and their "fans." I know, the second album got horrible reviews, but it wasn't bad. Seriously. Actually, it had some GREAT songs on it. Indeed, how the mighty have fallen, but should we not look at ourselves for throwing this band onto the tracks? CYHSY gave us a lot of good memories, along with some sweet ass songs! Either way, BAM will be crowded, CYHSY will break up (i hope they don't) and then everyone will start talking about the good ole' days and how CYHSY used to rock!

i think this band is what's wrong with a lot of people's uh, perceptions of what is good these days. while i personally think they're horrid, it's not their fault that blogs built them up and then shat them out. maybe the members will go on to do better things.

I went to this show tonight. Chairlift was ethereal and way better than I expected. CYHSY was totally energetic and fun. The only drawback is how uptight the staff are at BAM. It sucks to be prodded to move back to your seat, like a child, when all you want to do is dance around and have a good time.

I was also at the show at BAM last night. It was a sick show, Chairlift was actually pretty good too. CYHSY played a handful of new songs, but mostly stuff from the first album. They were way fun and I think the setlist and performance was great. I love how people post on this site to just talk about how they hate these bands soo much, it's hilarious. Don't you people have anything better to do then to just bash bands that you probably were die hard fans of a year ago.

It's always so sad when bands take a permanent leave from their musical careers. Think about their legions of fans! I hope they do come back soon. I'm a huge fan of their music. :(
