CYHSY @ Fun Fun Fun Fest (more by Kyle Dean Reinford)
CYHSY

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are apparently taking a (possibly permanent?) "break" after the previously-announced February 13th show at BAM. The rumor is that they've nixed plans to go back into the studio, and that they have no further dates scheduled. I'm not saying I'm 100% positive this is the last we'll see of them, but it seems likely the show will be the last chance to see them for a very long time, if not ever. Chairlift opens, and tickets are still on sale.

In the meantime, CYHSY's Tyler and Robbie have been keeping busy with Uninhabitable Mansions, who have a show coming up February 27th at Union Hall. CYHSY's drummer Sean continues to play Axl Rose in the Gn'R cover band Mr. Browstone. Their next gig is February 7th at Starland Ballroom in NJ. Alec Ounsworth's latest pastime is being a father.

After BAM, Chairlift are going on a March tour with Yacht, and will be visiting the west coast in April with Sebastien Tellier. Though not confirmed, I'd say the March tour makes it look like they'll be at SXSW, and the April dates have them coming awfully close to Coachella. All dates below...

does someone out there still give a fuck about these guys?

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 5:59 PM

Probably taking a break after the realization that they are having trouble selling out BAM.

When a band puts out a terrible 2nd album it can be deadly. Sad.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 6:11 PM

what's the sound of no hands clapping and saying yeah?

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 6:12 PM

they definitely could use a better band name.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 6:40 PM

the second album is very good but different and maybe not as great as first

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 6:50 PM

3 years ago you fickle fucks loved 'em...

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 6:55 PM

clap your hands, say fag.

Posted by iamgay | January 19, 2009 6:56 PM

Like both albums, thought they were awful live (twice), and it definitely reduced my enthusiasm for the band.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 7:04 PM

some loud thunder was one of the best records of the year - it's too bad they always wussed away from playing any tracks from the record because of worthless hipster backlashers

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 7:21 PM

who the fuck are these douches? what a stupid name for a band.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 7:29 PM

saw them in philly a couple months back trying out some new songs, thought they sounded pretty decent

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 7:31 PM

oh yeah, i grabbed their setlist too from the show

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 7:32 PM

so will they play new songs at this show? was hoping to hear some new stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 7:34 PM

CUT OFF YOUR PANTS SAY YEAH!

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 7:53 PM

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 8:06 PM

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Posted by TWB | January 19, 2009 8:35 PM

Posted by your mom's calling you... | January 19, 2009 8:43 PM

When this band is on, they're great. they better bring it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 19, 2009 8:44 PM

The new stuff they were playing live the past year was fantastic. If they break up I will be severely disappointed.

Posted by tomw | January 19, 2009 8:46 PM

they're a pretty good band, but from what I can tell the reception outside of the east coast has been pretty mixed at best.

Posted by stainless steel bangle wholesale | January 19, 2009 10:36 PM

if you're from new york and don't like or at least respect CYHSY's music, then honestly go fuck yourself - nobody cares about your shitty taste in music. i'm going to the BAM concert and will have a goodass time. fuckoff scum.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 9:01 AM

"3 years ago you fickle fucks loved 'em..."

I couldn't agree more. For real, I remember being in that long ass line outside Mercury for that late night night show a few years back and Ialso remember their shows instantly selling out! Their shows were not only fun, but were always packed too! They were on point at that Merc show, along with all the ones at Bowery, the NYE show at Irving (& Hammerstetin), all the way to Conan O'Brien.

I don't understand what happened with these guys and their "fans." I know, the second album got horrible reviews, but it wasn't bad. Seriously. Actually, it had some GREAT songs on it. Indeed, how the mighty have fallen, but should we not look at ourselves for throwing this band onto the tracks? CYHSY gave us a lot of good memories, along with some sweet ass songs! Either way, BAM will be crowded, CYHSY will break up (i hope they don't) and then everyone will start talking about the good ole' days and how CYHSY used to rock!

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 9:42 AM

they should "reunite" on Valentine's Day 2009 and do an immediate "reunion" tour. I'd go to every show.

Posted by F. U. Haters | January 20, 2009 9:59 AM

If they break up they will attain neutral milk hotel status in 2018.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 2:00 PM

Crap Your Pants, Say NO! This band has always been over-fucking-rated.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:42 PM

i think this band is what's wrong with a lot of people's uh, perceptions of what is good these days. while i personally think they're horrid, it's not their fault that blogs built them up and then shat them out. maybe the members will go on to do better things.

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 12:49 AM

I went to this show tonight. Chairlift was ethereal and way better than I expected. CYHSY was totally energetic and fun. The only drawback is how uptight the staff are at BAM. It sucks to be prodded to move back to your seat, like a child, when all you want to do is dance around and have a good time.

Posted by V | February 14, 2009 1:11 AM

All I want to do is dance.

Posted by the gayest man alive | February 14, 2009 4:59 AM

I was also at the show at BAM last night. It was a sick show, Chairlift was actually pretty good too. CYHSY played a handful of new songs, but mostly stuff from the first album. They were way fun and I think the setlist and performance was great. I love how people post on this site to just talk about how they hate these bands soo much, it's hilarious. Don't you people have anything better to do then to just bash bands that you probably were die hard fans of a year ago.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2009 2:17 PM

sounds like it was a good show. Did the band say anything last night about taking or break?

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2009 3:23 PM

"sounds like it was a good show. Did the band say anything last night about taking or break?"

nope. they did not.

Ensure that you never use more than 30 percent of the limits on your credit card, as any more than that will leave a bad impression on those managing your fund. More sure about your credit cards which is not credit cards for bad credit.

Looks like Tipper Gore failed.

When they where in my city, they played one of the best gig's. was hoping to hear some new stuff. Indeed, how the mighty have fallen, but hould we not look at ourselves for throwing this band onto the tracks? I went to this show tonight. Chairlift was ethereal and way better than I expected. CYHSY was totally energetic and fun. The only drawback is how uptight the staff are at BAM. It sucks to be prodded to move back to your seat, like a child, when all you want to do is dance around and have a good time. Both these bands have put out some great material, but their sound is a little too niche to find widespread commercial success. It's one thing to be true to your artistic inner self, but music that you love doesn't necessarily sell albums and put food on the table.

Clap your hands say yeah is a great band there music is much more different then other bands, its a shame to know that they might not tour again.

Posted by Buy LCD | January 1, 2011 1:38 PM

they're a pretty good band, but from what I can tell the reception outside of the east coast has been pretty mixed at best.

Posted by Buy LCD | January 1, 2011 1:39 PM

They've always been a great local band playing in smaller clubs. They should keep it that way.

Posted by Cake Mixer | January 2, 2011 7:19 PM

Oh.. bit late to join the discussion , but bad too bad , but again most will agree that they were too niche and we honestly didn't expect them stay on stage for long

I've only just come across this band on youtube. I would've loved to be able to have seen them live :(

The 2nd album can't be compared with the 1st cause they sound different , if you have a problem with your ears you can still make the difference between those albums.

They are another perfect example that the first album is always the best ;)

CYHSY is another perfect example that all the comments saying Best Coast and Sleigh Bells will be forgotten about in 5 years are probably true.

I've been lurking but you have great info on this blog. I just spent the last two hours browsing around your site instead of working. My boss will be pissed, but I'm pretty sure I had more fun here.

This looks absolutely perfect. All these tinny details are made with lot of background knowledge. Everything is very open and very clear explanation of issues. It contains truly information. Your website is very useful. Thanks fI don't understand what happened with these guys and their "fans." I know, the second album got horrible reviews, but it wasn't bad. Seriously. Actually, it had some GREAT songs on it. Indeed, how the mighty have fallen, but should we not look at ourselves for throwing this band onto the tracks? CYHSY gave us a lot of good memories, along with some sweet ass songs! Either way, BAM will be crowded, CYHSY will break up (i hope they don't) and then everyone will start talking about the good ole' days and how CYHSY used to rock!or sharing

As a massive Gn'R fan I was intrigued to read in this post that CYHSY's drummer Sean plays Axl Rose in the Gn'R cover band Mr. Brownstone. Does anybody know if this cover band is still going and if they have any plans to play any gigs in the UK. I'd love to see how they match up to the real thing.
