too bad vivian girls arent a punk band

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 2:36 PM

I wanna go, but I don't see it happening

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 2:38 PM

as we all know, the commenters on Brooklyn Vegan are the ultimate arbiters of what "punk" is

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 2:44 PM

What's the point of selling tickets the day of? For those that don't live in the area, selling the tickets beforehand would have been greatly appreciated.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:03 PM

Is 80's Hardcore a band?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:04 PM

get over it 3:03. not everywhere is madison square garden

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:08 PM

selling tickets early is less punk than the vivian girls.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:14 PM

obviously, the sole reason tickets are being sold at all is to satisfy you whining indie nerds.

typical that you would complain even when you get what you want.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:18 PM

i actually hust want the ticket stub for my scrapbook. i hope they are nice tickets with perhaps something embossed on them.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:20 PM

doubt it. will probably be something disposable, because they only have to exist for 2 hours

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:22 PM

mr. kiwi, such a good dude.

Posted by mcg | January 20, 2009 3:22 PM

is this going to sell out before like 7:15, do you think?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:25 PM

You idiots complaining about advance tickets for this. As if the show is gonna sell out anyway. Boy, Todd has a lot of you by the balls.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:26 PM

I know I'm foolish for saying this but ... set times?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:27 PM

this show will probably sell out, 3:26. crystal stilts sold out.

and that Todd P, whoa, he's really got all of ya by the balls by... uh... selling tickets?

I didn't quite get what you were syaing there actually.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:31 PM

I think 80's Hardcore is this thing that Gavin McInnes does. I hate him.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:31 PM

3:27-

i was talking to cassie from vivian girls and she says she thinks her band may go on at around 10:30, if that helps.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:32 PM

set times will likely be close to 9:15, 10pm, 10:45, 11:30

it's hilarious how much you indie rock club devotees have built up the Market Hotel into this legend of disorganised craziness in your heads. Meanwhile, back in reality, you will not find a tighter ship of an underground club anywhere.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:35 PM

3:32 (and 3:27)- i was talking to Katie from vivian girls and she thinks her band might go on around 10:40, if that helps.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:39 PM

"this show will probably sell out, 3:26. crystal stilts sold out."

Crystal Stilts are more "marketable" and are popular with the scenesters right now. The Vivian Girls are also popular, but they play sooooo many gigs, there is no reason to rush to see them tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:46 PM

3:46 has some kind of agenda.

the draws tonight are fucked up and pissed jeans anyway

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:56 PM

3:27

Cassie does not like you or herself.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 3:57 PM

10:30 or 10:40? I HAVE TO KNOW.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:00 PM

"3:46 has some kind of agenda."

What agenda? Just for saying Crystal Stilts are more popular?

"the draws tonight are fucked up and pissed jeans anyway"

I agree. I am very excited for tonight. All I am saying is that Fucked Up might not sell out the Market Hotel. Does that mean they are not good? No. Britney Spears can sell out MSG, does that mean she is good?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:03 PM

neither. it's 9:45

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:03 PM

haven't seen that guy since Crocodile Dundee 2

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:06 PM

Pissed Jeans are good. I wish I could go to this tonight.

Posted by Katie Camosy | January 20, 2009 4:11 PM

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:14 PM

4:03 and 4:14 -

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:17 PM

4:17-

that's very helpful, thanks!
if you wouldn't mind, i'd like that number, please

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:19 PM

there are so many other things going on tonight its not going to sell out. crystal stilts was on a saturday with not much else happening

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:25 PM

fucked up didn't sell out the market hotel last time they played..which was also on a week night.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:25 PM

718-848-4475 remember only page for important vivian girl info! that's 718-VIV-GIRL!

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:27 PM

You can also check the VIV100 station on Sirius Satellite Radio for round the clock up to date news and info on the vivian girls.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:32 PM

that guy has some nerve criticizing todd.

keep on going to your bowery presents or live nation approved shows, mr. whoever you are...

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:34 PM

just announced! vivian girls are playing a special short set at mr. kiwi's grocery in the snacks section at 7pm before the regular show. no tickets needed! found out about on VIV100. thanks!

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:35 PM

Todd P is a carpetbagger

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:39 PM

yes, exactly, Todd P is a Northern freedom supporter who lived during the reconstruction era right after the civil war and moved to the South where he was heckled and bullied by Southerners for supporting freed slaves.

damn, that was a brilliant insult.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:44 PM

first, jenny lewis and now todd p...where are all these carpetbaggers coming from?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 4:57 PM

THE 80's are fucking over.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 5:13 PM

Mr. Kiwi is adding a $6.25 "convenience charge" to every ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 5:16 PM

I love it when bands switch the order they play in, so fuckers who only want to hear one band play while they chat loudly to their friends in the back of the venue are screwed.

Posted by Lori | January 20, 2009 5:36 PM

there is a line three blocks long outside mr. kiwi right now

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 6:09 PM

Todd P is a sellout to the DIY ethic. If I wanted to buy paper tickets to a show I would line up at TKTS with the rest of the tourist sheep.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 6:30 PM

"Todd P is a sellout to the DIY ethic. If I wanted to buy paper tickets to a show I would line up at TKTS with the rest of the tourist sheep."

dumbest comment of the year, unless it was sarcastic, in which case it's ok I guess.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 6:36 PM

i hope an "intelligent dance music" arguement breaks out in this thread.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 7:50 PM

i live in the same neighborhood as mh and kiwis, and its really remarkable just how much people like to go on bv to lie about the status of tickets. line outside of kiwi's? i went at 6 45 and the place was busy but not that busy. also, i not too long ago went around the block to buy a ticket for two amazing bands, one good band, and a cover band ive only heard good things about, and what it there to argue about here?

Posted by sonofkiwi | January 20, 2009 8:47 PM

I'm in space and I can see the line for tickets from here

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 9:54 PM

Tickets do not guarantee entry. Just give Todd P your money.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 10:06 PM

4:44 found wikipedia

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 10:39 PM

Too bad he didn't find societal context.

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 10:55 PM

who farted?

Posted by Anonymous | January 20, 2009 11:25 PM

Good show, but fuck all those douche bags with their point and click cameras trying to get pictures of the 'pit'. Please, just go away, i hope at least one of you got your shit broken.

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 1:28 AM

this show sold out, btw

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 2:33 AM

"this show sold out, btw"

Oh it did did it? Please tell me when it sold out. Was that after the 10 mins before Fucked Up played when I showed up, paid my money and walked in or was it after the 15 or so minutes after they started when a friend of mine showed up, paid his money and walked in.

Truth is Market Hotel or any of Todd's shows never sell out. If you get there and they happen to say we are full(which is rare) you can always wait a tiny bit till someone leaves and they will let you in.
Exactly what i did for the Crystal Stilts show.

So please stop fucking lying with this show sold out bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 3:01 AM

actually it did sell out at 9 30
they only started letting people in at the end of pissed jeans set as people were filing out

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 3:25 AM

well 3:01 just knows it all, don't he?

actually, when Todd P says a show is sold out, you will get turned away for several hours because the show genuinely has too many people at it. If they let people in again later at all, it's because a large segment of the crowd has left after a key band played or a similar situation. Sometimes they never let more people in again.

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 5:03 AM

3:01 is typical. you idiots want to see a conspiracy in every little thing

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 5:21 AM

I purchased tickets at 7pm with no issues, and returned at 10:30 right before Pissed Jeans. The show was very packed at that point, but I wasn't sure if it was sold out or not. I thought the show was going to be shut down because there were so many cops in the area, but nothing happened. Did something else happen in the neighborhood? There were so many cops around.

Decent show. No new songs, but the old ones still sound damn good. Not much energy from the crowd except for the few rows in front of the first pillar. Power on the right side of the stage went out during FU's set. Some douchebag bearded hipster was standing on some cords. Todd P was yelling at him to get off the stage, but he said he was there so that he can stage dive once the music started. Todd was in shock about how much of an asshole this guy was. He said he wasn't leaving the stage!

Wished Pissed Jeans played a longer set. They mentioned they had a demo for sale, but I found no merch.

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 9:31 AM

rugmunchers >>>>> carpetbaggers

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 9:38 AM

9:31
is the lack of crowd participation refering to Pissed Jeans or Fucked Up? Did you go to the show Fucked Up played at Market Hotel last year? If so, how did last night compare to it?

Posted by UN:art:IG | January 21, 2009 10:53 AM

I donl;t know what 9:31 is talking about, that crowd was fucking off the hook and surging and dancing the whole night

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 11:06 AM

"9:31
is the lack of crowd participation refering to Pissed Jeans or Fucked Up?"

There was almost nothing during Pissed Jeans. I was hoping to catch the rush to the stage once they started, but nothing happened. Great set, but only the first 3-4 rows of people were into it. I didn't feel like pushing my way up front through all the people just standing.

"I donl;t know what 9:31 is talking about, that crowd was fucking off the hook and surging and dancing the whole night"

Yeah, in front of the first beam/pole, but that was only about 10-12 feet of crowd. Actually, without that beam there, there probably would have been a great pit.

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 12:07 PM

that's as much "pit" as any show needs. 90% of the people at any show don't really want to fuck with that shit anyway. that pole is a godsend. keeps shit contained.

but there were people going apeshit the whole time, I don't know what you're bitching about dude. I guess you wanted more bloody noses?

since when is the readership of BrooklynVegan an authority on pits anyway

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 12:23 PM

Not everyone needs to be in the pit. I actually wasn't (very tall, so crowd surfers end up crashing into my head). But move a little bit, bang your head, clap your hands, do something.

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 12:35 PM

people were going totally crazy, I don't know what this tall guy was on

Posted by Anonymous | January 21, 2009 12:55 PM

are there seriously no photos from this yet? get going internetz
