Tickets are now on presale (password = Fingerprints).
So they said the presale was going to start at noon and it was on Ticketmaster at that time, but then Leonard Cohen's "fan club" was told the password wasn't being released until 1:30PM for a new 2:00PM start time, but then Siobhan (thx!) kindly posted it in the comments at 12:55 and it works.
P.S. since my first post, they officially announced the following: "For the first time since 1993, Leonard Cohen will perform in the U.S. on February 19th at The Beacon Theatre in New York City . For one night at the 2,800 seat venue Leonard Cohen will perform the show that earned more than 80 five-star reviews during his fall 2008 UK and European tour. Tickets will go on sale beginning Friday, January 16th at 9:00 AM." Note the on-sale date is the regular sale time. Also, technically Leonard has performed in the U.S. in the past fifteen years, maybe just not an actual full show.

Eh. I don't really know his work all that well so it's a a bit too pricey "just to go check it out"

He looks like a pilot in that pic!

I'm probably the hated target of the fan club guys right now, but it really bothered me that they were being so secretive about the damn password and on top of that the fan club is overwhelmingly ex-US populated and they (including my whole family) have already had a chance to see Leonard last year, so I figured it was fair game to share the password (once I found it: it was briefly posted on the forum before Jaarko took it down again) with some US-based fans.

seconded, waaaaaay too expensive
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 1:55 PM
No artist these days seems to notice there is a recession going on. Tickets for something like this should be $35-75 max!
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 1:58 PM
anyone know the new password?
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 2:04 PM
second secret show added. Leonard Cohen opens for Aa and Dan Deacon at Market Hotel. May 17, 2009.
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 2:06 PM
Well it is his first US show is 15 years, so maybe the price is valid???
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 2:16 PM
$65 to be pressed against the back wall of the theater? Validity be damned, no fucking way.
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 2:32 PM
if you think tickets are too expensive or think he's boring why waste your time writing a comment about it. i've got an idea, just don't buy a ticket. maybe if you were working instead of checking brooklynvegan every 2 minutes to see what new post you can add your whine-y comments to you'd actually have money to go to the shows and harass remarkably talented musicians in person. then you'd really make a difference.

I hate people who hate when other people speak their minds. Ha!

i got two seats where i'll be "pressed against the back wall of the theater," and i'm excited about it. sure, tickets are expensive, but not any more than any other "big" show these days. and the difference is that LC actually needs this money - he's not doing this tour to rip people off, he's doing it because all of his money was stolen from him.

Hey 2:53: BORING!!!
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 2:59 PM
Nice.....88 ticket listings on Stubhub already, figure 2-4 tickets each and that's 10% of the venue already up for grabs.
If you guys thought ticketmaster was pricey, take a look at what some idiots are asking:

2:53 I have seen over 700 concerts in 10 years and never paid more than $75 a ticket. It is just not worth it no matter who it is. For your information I work on a flexible schedule and get paid very well and can afford this ticket no problem but it is not worth it to me. If it is worth to you good for you! I though rather fly to Chicago though and see a club show and still have a few bucks left over than pay $270 for 1 ticket to a concert in NYC.
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 3:06 PM
2:53 this is a message board for discussion! What's it to you if someone thinks it cost to much? This is a good a place as any to debate that issue.
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 3:09 PM
I paid 100 for Billy Joel at MSG, 100 for Neil Young/ Wilco at MSG and 100 for Metallica/Machinehead at Nassau recently. Those were big splurges but I did have a blast at the first two (third one is later this month).
I think I paid around 300 for Pearl Jam at the Beacon, but that was a benefit so it doesn't count in the "who the hell sets these prices" category.
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 3:10 PM
Listen I agree that this is a hefty ticket price, one I could not have afforded until recently. It's the sad state of music that seeing a valued artist live has become so prohibitive to so many people. However, a neighbour of mine paid a similar ticket price to take her daughter to Hannah Montana last year, so when I judge it against that and consider that for my money I'm getting a genuine singer-songwriter who will perform his own work and will not lip-synch, then it looks like a better deal. Still pricey, but a better deal.
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 4:49 PM
the man is a genius...enjoy spending your $75 on all the other important things you buy, and i'll enjoy the show.
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 5:04 PM
Hey Anon 3:10 - You listen to some horrible music (except for the Neil Young/Wilco gig)!
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 5:41 PM
Got a ticket at stubhub. High price, but he's a fucking legend, old as fuck, and one of my favorite artists. It was worth it. I will try to get a couple on Friday to offset the price.
Posted by adam | January 14, 2009 6:56 PM
Hey, Metallica are now in the rock and roll hall of fame!!!
Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 7:59 PM
65 or 100 bucks to possibly experience a once in a lifetime show is def worth it. consider that some people spent massive money to fly to europe just to see this guy.
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2009 12:28 AM
how come MANHATTAN worked fine as a password then?
Posted by danny boy | January 15, 2009 2:37 AM
this guy just had almost all his life savings stolen by his manager. he's a legend. he hasn't performed there in ages. th eprices are justified.
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2009 6:34 AM
fuck yea motherfuckers!
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2009 10:49 AM
Siobhan - You're a complete ass for distributing the presale password. What did you get in return for pissing off hundreds of LC fans? Oh, you put money in the pockets of the hated scalpers! Real nice, jackass. This was an event that was intended for LC forum users (which anyone could join, mind you), but no, you go ahead and post the password before its intended audience, the forum members. So the forum is filled with Europeans? So you're xenophobic AND a prick? Wow. Yeah, they had their chance to see LC and we'll have many more when his USA schedule is posted soon. Are you at least going to the show? If so, what row are you in? I'm sure a lot of LC's real fans would like to know.
Posted by Siobhan Sucks | January 15, 2009 12:50 PM
whoa, thats pretty retarded what some of these scalpers are asking.
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2009 1:30 PM
"real fans"
LMFAO
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2009 1:46 PM
Wow, I guess I didn't see this post fast enough. I don't think it's lame to have posted it, I'm a fan but not a big enough one to join his freaking fansite. It's the pre-sale to fan bullshit that has already cost any regular person a chance to buy a ticket at 9am tomorrow. Although, I just noticed a pair for $1300 each, in ROW V!! Scalpers should be ground up and fed to child molesters...
Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2009 9:30 PM
There was NOTHING available on the General sale today! This sucks! Now I have to scour craigslist to find decent priced seats to see this legend. Wish I was around for the presale on Wednesday.
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2009 11:43 AM
11:43AM - Remember to thank Siobhan for having to pay a ridiculous price for the ticket.
Posted by Siobhan Sucks | January 16, 2009 2:17 PM
thank you Siobhan, dont listen to that guy, you let the BV regulars at least a few of us get a ticket, myself included.
siobhan sucks- dont be retarded you think these scalpers didnt have your password already, come on be real. if anything posting passwords here reduces scalping, because more real fans have a shot at getting tickets,
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2009 2:36 PM
Leave Siobhan alone. I think what was done was great and a service to the BV readers. In fact, I have gotten many passwords for presales from this site and am always grateful to those that post it.
I totally agree with anon 2:36 that the scalpers already had the password. I am sure they are not reliant on this website to get their information. If they are, then they arent very good scalpers.

so, here i am...now, spending 800.00 for 1 seat...
wiht inability to take a freind....so, it shall be me, and holy Ghost, and Leonard...sad, this is truely the 'END OF THE LAST 5TH DARK AGES'...

I've been in the mom world and not familiar with this pre-sale stuff. I'm a huge fan of Leonard Cohen, but am not in any fan club. How do you join this Leonard Cohen fan club?
Thanks. Ann

Never mind, I see how this presale stuff works. Ann
Posted by Ann | February 21, 2009 10:12 AM
Ann, good luck with the presale. I just learned this week that LC was going to be performing near me. I searched on pre-sales, registered at forum, and never got a validation response. I don't know if this is a backlog or exclusivity problem.
Posted by Rufus Firefly | February 21, 2009 2:40 PM
Ditto to Ann, I'm a major Leonard fan as well but am unaware of a fan club or the forum that rufus mentions. Help? thanks
Posted by Susan | February 21, 2009 7:37 PM
Susan, it is leonardcohenforum.com. This page explains details:
http://www.leonardcohenforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&p=154752
However, as I mentioned, my registration was not responded to so they may not monitor this or may limit participation.
I've had this happen with other sites. Irritating, but what can you do?

Yah, thanks ever so much Soibhan whoever you are; you really screwed things up for the rest of us in Western Canada! You should be fired for being untrustworthy! Gee, I can't imagine why "they" were being so secretive about the password! How old are you, 12! Did you just need to feel important?

Have no cash to buy some real estate? Worry not, because that's achievable to get the loan to solve all the problems. Hence take a car loan to buy everything you want.
