Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen

The Beacon Theatre was designated by Chicago architect Walter W. Ahlschlager and opened in 1928. The 2,800-seat Beacon Theater is a fantastic Art Deco treasure, built as silent pictures began talking and as vaudeville capitulated to the movie palace era. In 1979, the historic venue was designated a national landmark. The three-level auditorium is distinguished by 30-foot statues of Greek women on each side of the proscenium arch. Other features include an open-air lobby, bronze front doors, ornate moldings, white marble floors, and corridor murals depicting elephants, camels and traders. Known for its flawless acoustics, New Yorkers are anxiously awaiting its reopening in February 2009 after a $15 million restoration.
Leonard Cohen is playing the Beacon Theatre on Thursday February 19th! Tickets go on Fan Club presale Wendesday at noon, and then on regular sale Friday at 9AM.

Other shows scheduled at the Beacon Theatre right now include B.B. King and Buddy Guy on Feb. 21st, the two night run for Levon Helm, and the ten night run for the Allman Brothers.

This past summer, Leonard was one of the headliners at Glastonbury. The show was part of a 2008 tour that didn't include any US dates. Stay tuned for more 2009 show announcements.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 1:12 PM

^ I am stupid, but that place does suck.

It just does.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 1:21 PM

Sounds like this is a one-off show for the fanclub. Proper tour will recommence in April. Maybe a bigger venue then, like RCMH.

Posted by drewo | January 13, 2009 1:57 PM

saw him in canada last spring and he was amazing. three solid hours, voice as strong as ever.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 1:59 PM

"you're mom likes leonard cohen" ????

so..."you are mom likes leonard cohen" ??

that makes sense. idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 2:05 PM

you can find footage from Glastonbury on You Tube--LC did a short set there (maybe 10 songs--he usually does over 20)

Posted by david z | January 13, 2009 2:13 PM

FIRST WE TAKE MANHATTAN!

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 2:30 PM

Anyone have the link for the fan club?

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 3:10 PM

just regular ticketmaster presale. the info will be back tomorrow

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 3:21 PM

Password here to get in for the presale?

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 3:50 PM

it's up, what's the password?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:08 PM

password=manhattan

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:13 PM

no tix

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:18 PM

12:13: did u get tickets?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:28 PM

Yes, I was able to get Orch row BB.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:28 PM

damn :(

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:30 PM

where did you get the password? i thought fan club presale is at 2 pm

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:33 PM

The Standard Admission + Pre-Show Reception starts at 2:00. For some reason they were selling tix w/o the reception at noon.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:35 PM

so you just guessed the password?

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:36 PM

yep

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:36 PM

I have been trying to get tickets since 11 am when Ticketmaster went live and I have been getting the no tix available message each time. It looks like some major scam is going on since the fan club was told 2pm but the show is already sold out? That doesn't make sense. Who is buying such large quantities within 10 minutes of sale?

Posted by Siobhan | January 14, 2009 12:40 PM

I only bought 1 ticket.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:41 PM

show is not sold out, it is just presale...not every ticket was sold...

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:42 PM

You're right it's just a presale, but if most fan club members don't get password until 1:30, where is demand coming from at 11am?
Also, the fan club pretension has to be stopped: password will be found by following clues so that only real Cohen fans can find it (despite fact that I guessed it)?????
What about wanting to expose this great performer to new audiences? This is not a cabal.

Posted by PaddyDog | January 14, 2009 12:48 PM

Tickets are now available: password is Fingerprints.

Go get 'em.

Posted by Siobhan | January 14, 2009 12:55 PM

looking at the bright side, I just saved myself 100 bucks!

also, I think he should refuse to play Halleluja.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 12:56 PM

just got loge, row d. for 109.70. also pulled orchestra row a but thats too much for me at $250 per.

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 1:03 PM

Lower balcony front row with pre-show reception $100. Nice!

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 1:04 PM

thank you siobhan!

Posted by anonymous | January 14, 2009 1:07 PM

lower balcony row a should be killer esp if you are taping the show it should be easy to hide your tools, ushers there can be pretty strict...

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 1:11 PM

Fourth row balcony! Yay!

Posted by Zombie | January 14, 2009 1:23 PM

oh my god I just paid $270 after fees. 8th row, though.

Posted by superfan | January 14, 2009 2:09 PM

I called Ticketmaster: The Fan club seats sold out at 2:20pm EST.

Posted by JD | January 14, 2009 2:42 PM

1,600 seats were allocated to the presale. Good luck tomorrow for those who didn't get tickets today!

Posted by Anonymous | January 14, 2009 2:44 PM

can you still get tickets

Posted by Anonymous | January 15, 2009 3:32 PM

Regular sale was a joke. Scalpers at work...

Canadian singer-songwriting legend Leonard Cohen is starting his 2009 U.S. tour in Austin, TX at
the Long Center April 2.
This is a tip from bassist Roscoe Beck, the Austinite who serves as Cohen’s musical director. There are no ticket details yet.
