Jim James shaves his beard, Will Sheff grows one. What a wacky world!

It was a good set, a sloppy moment or two, but that was nice, given how rigid and precise the records can be. Will was on terrific form. Not sure about this venue though. Why did security haul off the one guy who was rocking out and let that idiot in the back heckle Will throughout?

GGBB

(good guys bad band)

I loved the For Real intro!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 1:30 PM

I thought the heckler & the rocker were the same guy?

Very enjoyable set, much more fun than the Webster Hall 2nd night I saw.

Excellent show! I was singing along all the freaking time. What a great band.

They are playing "Pop Lie" on Letterman tonight, by the way.

The rocker guy kept spilling drinks into the soundboard and slamming into girls, that's what got him 86'd.

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 1:45 PM

I have never witnessed someone enjoy a concert as much as the guy in the shirt and tie.

Stellar show.

As for the asshat who got taken away, I've never been so happy to see someone escorted out of a venue. Frat-boy douch-ism, leave Terminal 5 for that.

Great show last night.

I love the Bell House. One of the best venues I've been to in a while. Great site lines throughout, great sound, and an excellent beer selection to boot. The staff was really courteous too.

Okkervil is definitely high on my list for live shows now.

Carl Newman was there? He should have sang on Lost Coastlines.

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 1:59 PM

wait, are okkervil river playing "pop lie" on letterman tonight?

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 2:00 PM

"Red" was fantastic. It was amazing how quiet it got in there when Will did the solo stuff. Very glad to have been there.

Posted by vgthbt | January 7, 2009 2:20 PM

According to Mr. Sheff they will indeed be doing Pop Lie tonight on Letterman.

They were awesome, the venue's awesome, that Chris Mills guy was really good, and I think that crazy guy really freaked out the band. It seemed like any second he would just grab Will and snap him in two like a twig. It was definitely a very good thing when the security guy finally hauled his ass out. I am pretty sure he was the same person who was heckling too.

For me "Blue Tulip" was probably the best part. Just stunning.

I'm not sure how I managed to miss the crazy guy, but I had the best time. I think Okkervil River is now officially my favorite band to see live.

amazing set.great song selection...played for just shy of 2 hrs.

a whole better than Webster Hall Night 2.

cant believe that asshole was screaming at Will and no one did a thing.

so glad i heard 'Black' last night

The 'For Real intro'...?

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 3:37 PM

Will looks impeccably hair-dried.

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 3:47 PM

"For Real intro": they did the Tim Hardin "Black Sheep Boy" cover and segued into "For Real" from there.

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 4:29 PM

Aw man shoulda gone... was a tad bit disappointed by their last Webster Hall show... woulda been nice to see them someplace other than Webster...

Posted by Beeeeeve | January 7, 2009 5:27 PM

anyone know if they're playing "pop lie" on letterman tonight?

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 5:36 PM

i really like will sheff's beard

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 6:04 PM

Yes, but it's not the 'for real intro' is it? It's it's own song...

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 6:19 PM

I can't stand Will's beard and I hate his girlfriend's voice and general lack of talent. When I see Okkervil, I don't want to see his girlfriend. If I wanted to see her, I'd go see her shitty band.

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 6:23 PM

there was a chick in the band! doesn't anyone want to say anything about that?

Posted by Anonymous | January 7, 2009 7:36 PM

"Drunk rocker/heckler/drink spiller/Will Sheff frightener/kicked out of show guy" is the blurry guy closest to the camera in the last picture on the page.

Posted by KC | January 7, 2009 7:41 PM

chick in the band is Lauren Gurgiolo, of The Dialtones, and she is awesome

Glad Chris Mills was on this bill. Dude deserves a TON more recognition than he gets.
