on the way home from the head automatica show in philadelphia-we flipped our van, and all our equipment was destroyed. after the van flipped and we scrambled out through broken windows, a car hit the van destroying all the gear. no one was really hurt but we are in tremendous pain today, as well as being seriously shaken up. we have to cancel boston tonite... [Radio 4]It sounds like they're lucky they only lost their gear. The show they won't make it to is Saturday night (1/10) at Great Scott in Boston. They and Head Automatica played Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on Thursday.

i hope the auto insurance covers it, but i doubt it.

glad to hear they're okay, i hope their gear was insured.

as a touring musician who spends a lot of time in a van, stories like this always give me the willies. glad these guys got away relatively unscathed. buckle up heroes of rock!

this totally sucks, but allow me to say...who knew they were still around?

^^Your mom did, she's one of their groupies

I'm glad no one was hurt I really am, but don't you think this is the universe' way of telling them to stop being a band?!
Once again, glad no one was hurt/killed but god, this band is awful!

there have been some incredible groups who have endured terrible van accidents (Subtle, DMBQ, and
many more) - so no its not about the universe
hatin on a band as much as those 15 pass-van's are
super unsafe and shouldn't be on the road.

isn't there a better forum to rag on a band than one talking about how they just were in an auto accident and lost all their gear?
No need to be "frank" here, keep that shit to yourselves. It's just not nice.

dont forget the minutemen and the promise ring.
rip d boon
seriously though, radio 4 are horrible, van accident aside. surprised nobody has brought up head automatica either, band makes me want to vomit.
"bleeding heart babyyyyyyy"

i remember seeing them at don hills...maybe like 2001...congrats on the longevity.
i can only imagine how horrible it must be to get into an accident like this, destroy $20-30k in gear all to play to people who are not interested.
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2009 5:08 PM
Why would people be not interested? Because they've been together for a long time?
Posted by Anonymous | January 10, 2009 5:23 PM
such horrible bands. but i hope they recover from this.

The comments mocking the band have taken the bad taste of brooklynvegan anonymous comments to a new low. Congrats.

People...PLEASE. These guys are so lucky to be alive today and I feel for them. The insensitive assholes ripping on them in this thread should be ashamed of themselves. Pray for yourselves if ever you're in a band on the road.

I don't think anyone is wishing ill on them, they are merely stating that the band is not good. I for one never cared for them even back when they were "popular".

^^^I hear you Anon8:07 but what I'm saying is that a post about a band miraculously surviving being killed and losing all their gear after escaping from a rolled van might not be the right post to express opinions on that band's music, good or bad.
Posted by blackhat | January 10, 2009 8:20 PM
I actually like them. I like to dance to their songs.

if the band fucking died we'd still be discussing the (shitty) caliber of the music, because its a fucking music blog, and you can discuss music if it comes up, because thats what everyone does anyway.

I'm just relieved not see the words "Paypal" and/or "send" anywhere...yet

GANGTA!

what wimps. they should have rented a car and borrowed equipment from another band on the bill in boston. that's what a real punk band would have done.
Posted by ian mackaye | January 12, 2009 12:24 AM
They're not really a punk band, though, are they? And I don't think they harbor any pretensions to that end.

Whether you like the music or not, an incredibly nice bunch of guys - good to know they dodged the bullet!
Posted by joly | January 14, 2009 7:25 PM
Wow, what a bunch of assholes. The only band I ever (guiltily) hoped would perish in some kind of firey crash is the offspring, and maybe the decemberists. On second thought, not the decemberists, just colin meloy, and i don't wish a car wreck, i just kinda wanna punch him.

i always fantasized about the yankees team plane crashing. it would be nice if a huge sinkhole opened up and coldplay's bus went right into the depths..
