"Scott Kannberg, aka Spiral Stairs, says that Pavement will reform in an interview for the new issue of Loud And Quiet, out this weekend (Jan 10th).Bands rumored to being playing Coachella in 2009, HERE (thx Hiro). There's been talk of Pavement reforming for quite some time but, in a Loud And Quiet exclusive interview with Scott Kannberg the guitarist told us, "I don't see why not, you know, it could be a fun thing to do, go and play your favourite songs every night!"
Confirming that "everything's fine now" amongst him and his ex-band members, Kannberg went on to say, "2009 would be our twenty-year anniversary too, so that'd be a good time to do it, but I think that's too soon, it might have to be pushed back later."
That news might come as a disappointment to those that have believed rumours of Pavement playing Coachella Festival this year but on that subject Kannberg mentioned that the band have not totally ruled out the Californian festival, providing their booking agent hears the right price. "Coachella keep asking our booking agent," said the guitarist "but our booking agent's pretty strong, you know, he's waiting for the right number I think."
In the feature that celebrates the US indie troupe, Kannberg also spoke about life in the band and how they might even release some unheard, rare material once their final album, 'Terror Twilight', receives the re-mastering treatment that all other Pavement albums have been given over the last few months."

We could use The Loaf at Pitchfork next year!

I have trouble believing in any Pavement reunion until Stephen Malkmus says something about it.
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 10:49 AM
Waiting for the right price? I mean, I know that's usually the case with these types of things, but do you have to come right out and say it?
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 10:56 AM
10:49.... I'd believe it. Stephen Malkmus always left this type of stuff up to Scott Kannberg, much like back when the band broke up.

if pavement play coach, i am 100 percent flying to cali!
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 11:19 AM
boyz to men announced that pavement should play shows in '09. b2m stated that if pavement starts performing in the u.s. by august 2009, all members of b2m would get a lobotomy. INSANE!

10:56.... Don't all these guys have families now? Except maybe for Ibold and Bobby?

Why does Malkmus have to be to definitive source?
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 11:50 AM
They should team up with the smashing pumkins...
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 11:55 AM

"OH SO IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY?!?!?!"
I supposed you think Coachella is a charity.

Come home, Pavement. Come home.
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 12:28 PM
Hmmm pushed back for later.....

"just curious...how many of you saw pavement the first time around?"
I saw them twice. Didn't care for them either time.
Would love to see the Loaf.

UM, i did. what's yer point?
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 1:06 PM
i saw them a bunch between 94-99.... first time was at roseland with guided by voices opening.... i honestly can't remember if the show was good or not, but if i ever a life-changing show experience, it would be that one.... definitely my favorite band of the 90's, if not ever....
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 1:20 PM
Saw Pavement a few times. Best time I saw them was as Roseland with Shudder to Think. Once, TT came out, I think SM stopped caring and looked bored all time.
Also, AOL opening for Weezer in 94 at Roseland was sick.

I'm flying coach to Coach, no matter who's playing.

ACTUALLY..... I read in an interview somewhere with Bob Nastanovich, and he said that they all want to do it, but the earliest it would happen would be 2010.... AND when it happens, Pavement would still be a five-piece on stage, but Gary would be along to play the Gary songs and West would play the West songs..... I'll try to find the link for it..... here it is....

most overrated band ever
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 2:36 PM
i didnt mean anything by my question...i was just curious to see who was more interested in seeing them...people who saw them and wanted to see them again, or people who never saw them to begin with.
i agree with the guy who was at the roseland show with gbv and david kilgour...i was maybe 14 and i barely could see the band between all the people jumping around but it was still a totally changing experience.
i saw them at the academy ballroom with come and dirty three on the wowee tour and the irving plaza terror twilight tour.
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 2:41 PM
i never saw them live, and that's why i would want to fly to cali to see them.

Stephen Malkmus isn't going to be in the Pavement Reunion. he is singing on the new Zeppelin Album. I'm going to sing for Pavement and yes at Coachella!

What is with all the "overrated Pavement" calls? Is it too much to ask that anyone can genuinely appreciate a good band anymore?
Posted by Ray | January 13, 2009 5:41 PM
ooo atp don't look back would be great.
all the peoples saying loaf, honestly did you listen to anything after Vee Vee?
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 6:35 PM
anon 2:41...... thank you! i couldn't remember that it was david kilgour who opened that show.
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 7:14 PM
@6:35 yes. vee vee was o.k., but all the nations airports was actually a really good record, despite the archers falling out of favor with most indie kids by that time. didn't care much for white trash heroes though. would still love to see them again.

i was too young to have seen OG pavement.
suck it, old people!

I love Pavement more than any of you will ever know. But I don't care about reunion because Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks are awesome - it is as if Pavement never broke up (sorry esp. to Spiral for that).
It matters what Malkmus re: the reunion because he was the singer, lead guitarist and wrote almost all of the songs (i.e. he was Pavement).
As Yogi Berra would say, Pavement is the most over-rated band noone ever heard of.

Give Malkmus another 5 years off at least. I prefer Icky Metal, Bring back Archers!
Posted by d.w. erewolf | September 16, 2009 12:24 PM
Archers of Loaf reunion! That'd be much better than Pavement. Malkmus is a male model, Archers are a rock band!

Just wanted to say thanks for this.
