tickets for THE (Grateful) DEAD's 2009 tour on pre-sale today

A presale begins today/Tuesday at noon for tickets to the upcoming Dead shows including April 25th at Madison Square Garden. As previously mentioned,
Original Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart will be joined by keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and Allman Brothers Band/Gov't Mule guitarist Warren Haynes, both of whom played with the band at the "Change Rocks" concert. The group first formed with lead guitarist Jerry Garcia as the Grateful Dead in 1965 and are legendary for their live performances. The Grammy-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group always toured relentlessly, allowing their "Dead Head" fans to tape and trade their exploratory, free-flowing concerts. In other bands-you-might-go-on-tour-with news, Phish is also playing a bunch of shows in 2009.

The website is not working, this blows!
Posted by Dooder City | January 13, 2009 12:31 PM
no 200s either - maybe they only released a handful of tix - is that normally the case?
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 12:33 PM

Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 12:36 PM
ACID!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 12:36 PM
is first row of 200s good or is better to wait for general public sale?
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 12:37 PM
LOL Who would pay that much to see Warren try to play like Jerry? The rest of the band should just retire. Bobby tries to look like Jerry LOL. They are sell outs. Jerry would never approve of $100.00 tickets prices. These guys must be hard up. I for one will not attend these concerts and ever Grateful that I saw Jerry when it was real, not this corporate crap. So much for roots. Talk is cheap.
Posted by Illuminatedone | January 13, 2009 12:42 PM
Whatever, "Jerry would never approve of $100.00 tickets prices." Jerry's idea was to make The Dead a brand to receive money for what they did. Why do you think he made Jerry Garcia ties? Jerry Garcia stuffed animals, etc? REad up on your dead facts before you make a statement like that.
Posted by Dooder City | January 13, 2009 12:45 PM
Oh really? So thats what the plan was in 1965? I think not. Besides Bob and Warren still can't play as well as Jerry. There are few that can.
Posted by Illuminatedone | January 13, 2009 12:55 PM
"is first row of 200s good or is better to wait for general public sale?"
DO IT. Dont wait. youll get 300s at best for the public sale.
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 12:58 PM
The Dead were all about giving their music and low ticket prices. Not selling Ties...If that was the case maybe they should just sell ties. Oh and the Ties had Garcia's Artwork on them that is different and has nothing to do with buying concert tickets.
Posted by Illuminatedone | January 13, 2009 1:00 PM
reporting from chicago... I smell a scam here. I can get 6 tix together at the P1 prices ($95), but not even a singleton at the P2 price ($50).
oh, but there's plenty of VIP and travel package tickets available... figures.
well, I'm sure Jerry's looking down at all this, shaking his head, with a rueful grin, as he picks up his guitar and jams with St. Peter...
Posted by Jess Wundrin | January 13, 2009 1:19 PM
hey dooder city - jerry hated the ties, and all that other crap came after he died.
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 1:41 PM
Finally got in....can't get nothin...
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 1:58 PM
Re- "well, I'm sure Jerry's looking down at all this, shaking his head, with a rueful grin, as he picks up his guitar and jams with St. Peter..."
Someone's taken too much acid.
And as for marketing, if you read Rock Sculley's "Living With The Dead" you will read about how Jerry wanted to make money off the Dead with things like ties, bears, etc. Also says it in Phil's autobiography. Words don't lie people. Don't get me wrong, it's completely rediculous that the ticket prices are 100 bucks but you can't see anything at the Garden for under 100 bucks. I got section 300 something and it is still over 100 bucks per ticket...way too much money but it's 2009 and not 1965 kids.
Posted by Dooder City | January 13, 2009 2:08 PM
AAAtix already has 8 sets of tix for the all the shows. Assclowns.
Posted by John Tully | January 13, 2009 2:30 PM
When is the general public sale? I can't find any info.
Posted by anonymous2 | January 13, 2009 2:40 PM
General lawn tickets for Shoreline in California are only $35 - that's more like it. I don't care if I'm not close as long as the sound is cool. I'd just as soon kick back on the lawn - I don't need to see Weir up close.
Of course none of this matters cuz the Dead site had a major meltdown & now that I can finally get in the lawn tickets aren't available. Probably end up scoring one in the general sale though.
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 3:21 PM
dude watch the doc Festival Express from 1971, some hippies are pressuring the Dead to put on a free show and Bob Weir tells them "if you want samething free go jerk off"
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 4:23 PM
Wait im wayy confused about how the ticket stuff works. Is is better to buy tickets now from some site like StubHub, eseats, ect. or wait for the general public sale? I just dont want to miss out on seats
Posted by Anonymous | January 13, 2009 5:30 PM
Jerry may have liked those damn bears, but Pigpen would've pissed all over 'em.
Then he'd go screw Janis, drink too much Thunderbird and pass out somewhere.

All i could get a hold off on the pre-sale site for the Greensboro Show was two tickets on the Lower backside of the stage - section 229. I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Did I make a huge mistake by not waiting?? Anyone?
Posted by roger burnham | January 13, 2009 8:54 PM
I would pick up tix if available, then purchase online or in person at ticketb@stard. Then whichever tickets are better seats, sell the other ones on CraigsList for face value. That way you get a better seat and someone gets to go to the show that was shut out for face value
Posted by Chris | January 13, 2009 9:43 PM
YEAH WE ALL MISS JERRY.$100. PER TICKET OH WELL ONE MAN GATHERS WHAT ANOTHER MAN SPILLS.
WE WILL SEE THEM JUST TO HAVE A GOOD NIGHT OUT AND MAYBE RUN INTO SOME OL' HEADS.ISN'T THAT WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT NOT WAWAWAWA THEY DIDN'T PLAY THIS OR THAT GET A GRIP LETS JUST HAVE FUN PEOPLE I MIGHT JUST PISS MY TICKET AWAY AND HANG IN THE LOT
SEE YA OR NOT

I paid $217 with surcharges for 2 buffalo show tickets, their 200 level seats in the corner accross from the stage. Ive seen em, up close and paid a lot less, but this is 2009, everything costs. These guys have a right to make some money, think about all the enjoyment weve had over the years listening to their music. I must admit Im not thrilled with warren Haynes, but...Anyway, Go Bobby!!!

$100....yeah right. im spending my cash on phish tour>

i just bought tickets for the last show at shoreline ampitheater and they were only 35 bucks for lawn seats. i cant wait for the show, it should be awesome.

Hey, Illuminatedone from January 13th. Ive just got to comment, the 1st time I saw them in Sep 80 in Rochester, NY I thought why do they need this guy(Phil)? Over the years, hes developed into one of the premier bass players in rock history, no one comes close to playing a melodic bass like him, no one. Bobby has played beyond even his expectations since Jerry passed, and hes keeping the faith so we can all continue on our long strange trip. I hope you catch a show and continue the path you originally started. May whatever power you cling to guide you to Happiness!

Anyone know when's the general sale? Seems that works better than presales many times (for me, anyway!)
I like Warren. No one tries to be Jerry, but soem one has to stand in his place. Warren will certainly do.
Posted by Anonymous | January 16, 2009 9:43 AM
Where can I find tickets at Shoreline for $35.00? Empire tickets is selling for $125.00 each!!! Youch!
Posted by Lupin | January 23, 2009 5:54 PM
The Grateful Dead died with Jerry. The Dead, The other ones or whatever they call themselves now is a rehearsed cover band with special guests. $100 for a ticket are you kidding me? Bobby still can't play the guitar, Phil singing Jerry songs makes me want to puke and I still cant get Mickey rappin Fire on the mountain out of my head. And don't get me started on Warrn Haynes. If you people don't think this scam is about money you're crazy.(see worst shows ever, Egypt 78) If you want to see musicians who never could cut it without Jerry go see the Dead. A better show at a better price--Dark star orchestra. Atleast they put some soul into for the 30$

I would have to agree with the sentiment that Jerry Garcia was the heart and soul of the Grateful Dead. But he was a burnt out junky by the time he died, so no one can really predict or say what he may have done or even did for that matter, unless you were there. Words are for the most part all lies, and you are delusional if you think otherwise. I love Jerry,he could literally play my nervous system, but he's gone, and what remains is a very pale shadow of what once was, but they're still a hoot. There are worse ways to rip people off. As for the opinion Bobby still can't play the guitar, while I have never been a fan of his songs, he's a hell of a rhythm guitar player. He's really good in fact. Jerry loved him.
Don't underestimate these guys, Jerry or not they were the freakin' house band for the acid tests. No others in the world have the experience these guys have had. No one.

Almost everyone in this forum has to be eating their words now because this tour has been amazing. The boys are having fun fun fun. Just got back from 3 alb wor wor. Simply amazing. It is not 1965 tickets are not $5 milk is not 50 cents gas is not 50 cents. Buck up you cheap fucks if your a true head. I can tell 90 percent of you are not just by your posts prior to them even playing. Don't know what you missed
Posted by kyle | April 22, 2009 4:47 AM
People still listen to this shit?
Posted by Anonymous | April 22, 2009 5:33 AM
Know what I'm missing, know they were the house band for the acid tests, and the price of the tickets are irrelevant. Jerry died more than 13 years ago and it is easy to forget about inflation. Look back to what the price of a gallon of gas or milk was. What did you pay for a pack of cigarettes? What is relevant, I'm sorry, but the GRATEFUL DEAD died w/ Jerry. I witnessed their first round of shit and it was nothing but a huge, expensive disappointment. I love the rest of the boys, wanted nothing more than to have such a good time, but it just wasn't there. Jerry taught himself to play guitar, then taught the rest of them to play. All of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think they should sit around and do nothing, but they should definatley name themselves something different and stop exploiting Garcia. No, I'm not paying to go see the "DEAD." I'll listen to my tapes and flashback for free.
